The Tripartite Mate Bond Chapter 141: CHAPTER HUNDRED AND FORTY-ONE
*ARES' POV
Having no bond with our mate may have had its advantages but at that point where we were going around the entire Blue lake forest searching for her, it was a nightmare. I had mourned that bond so much because it was what dragged my head out of my ass when I was hell-bent on not falling for Aurora but now that I'd known her, it was a damn privilege.
The hair we were following had stopped at some point and her scent was dead long ago so we had just been winging it, hoping we'd come across something.
Deep in my guts, I'd known she was there and Axel had the same premonition but it was difficult convincing nearly half my pack that we were in the right direction. Their earlier enthusiasm had died a natural death and we were not even upset about it.
It took us another three days before we made some sort of headway, a warrior had seen her power pearl bracelet and it made everyone feel a slice of how again.
Only, it all plummeted when Lyra finally got access into her mind.
At first, we were so excited and hoping the search would finally end and we could do some real damage. Tharros has been trying to impress Lyra and I understood where he was coming from so I was confident in our formation. But a few seconds in and it was obvious something was wrong. Elena wasn't saying anything back to us and just watched, mouth agape as the worst began to happen.
It was a terrifying view watching the dragon wail and screech in pain at whatever was happening.
One could only imagine what her human counterpart was going through if the dragon couldn't even bear it.
“Elena, what's going on?” Axel asked, as he was in human form this time around.
“Something is happening to their bond, like an interruption. Scarlett said it hurts too much and she can't hear anything from Aurora either,” Elena explained, her eyes going back and forth from Lyra to Scarlett.
“Well, we need to get closer to her location. The dragons need to fly faster, she could be getting physically hurt!” I shouted in the mindlink, not caring who heard it.
The entire pack did and immediately, everyone began to pack up and move in the direction of the dragons.
Tharros was stumping on the ground around Lyra so we couldn't go towards them but Scarlett on the hand understood the urgency and bent for Elena to get on and they began flying.
I didn't blame Lyra, she was the one deeply connected to Aurora and the pain must have been focused on her. Hopefully, we find my mate before something happens to her, I'll go crazy if we found her only to lose her again.
In a few minutes we'd set sight on the camp that housed our enemies, only it was a hundred times more than what we'd imagined.
“Halt!” Axel screamed in the link, mirroring my thoughts.
We'd need every supernatural out there to fight an army this big, there were probably thousands of them.
“Lyra said something is about to happen to Aurora and we need to get closer!” Elena screamed from the top of her dragon.
Now I wish she'd taken up Chris’s offer to ride on his wolf. We could hear her but I doubt she'd be able to hear our response and our only mental link to the witch was somewhere in the enemy camp, getting tortured or something.
“It's not safe!” Axel screamed back and I knew anymore of this would probably alert them to our presence, if it hadn't already.
“Axel, tell her to come down. I feel like we've led our people to be slaughtered or something,” I said, a terrible feeling of dread creeping into my bones.
I definitely wasn't going to leave my mate in this place but at the cost of what? What if saving her would make us lose everything? This was the first time I'd been able to come close to fulfilling my responsibility as her mate and protecting her, yet I was failing already.
Axel did as I said and I went to the backpack I'd come with and shifted back into human form and put on jeans and a shirt. I was going crazy with the thought of a plan that could work and nearly stumbled on a tree stump.
“Calm down, brother. We'll figure this out, just like we always do, okay?” Axel tried reassuring me but I knew this was not like every other time.
We were always underestimating this particular enemy which was why we were in this situation in the first place.
I mean, the council should have been at its strongest point right now but everyone was on their own, doing goddess knows what. We were divided right from the center and no matter how many times we had proposed consensus, everyone always gave excuses.
On the one hand, if we failed and didn't rescue my mate and stop this army, they were going to unleash themselves on the supernatural world and everyone, divided as we were, would perish without as much as a tiny resistance.
Elena did come down from her dragon but before she could cover the distance to us, she was already in tears.
Chris ran to her, confusion covering his face.
“What is it? Talk to me?” He urged her, panic in his tone.
“She said Aurora is about to die,” Elena said, tearing the heart of the entire pack out of our chests.
“What do you mean she's about to die? How can we stop it?” Axel growled, scaring the innocent girl.
I had to step in and push him back.
“Don't shoot the literal messenger brother, let's hear everything okay?” I said, encouraging Elena to tell us everything.
“There's so much information right now but what is more important is that she's about to be thrown into the Blue lake and you know Aurora can't swim. Also, there's something about mirrors, she said if we have them, we'll stand a chance,” she quickly explained, dread filling our hearts.
“Okay, here's what we're going to do. Tell Lyra she's going to lead the dragons to search every inch of that river until our mate is found, meanwhile the rest of the pack will go back and push this information into every clan, coven and pack. Just like we did with the fires, this time, it's mirrors. Chris, you will lead this expedition. Alex and I will wait until she is found,” I instructed, and immediately, everybody set into motion a plan that I hoped would give us victory.
