The Tripartite Mate Bond Chapter 22: CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO

The thought of marking her without her consent wasn't something I was comfortable with but this was her life in danger, she might appreciate it.

But I couldn't make this decision alone so I had to go to my twin’s room but before I could, he and Alpha Kane came in.

“Oh, you are here already. How was near death?” Axel joked.

“Piss off. We have a dilemma right now.” I started

“Damn. Why is nothing ever straightforward? My pack has almost turned against their Beta and I need to get going. What is the problem this time?” Alpha Kane asked.

I sighed.

“Well, since the Coma gave out wolves enough time to heal us and bring us out of the great beyond, we woke up after so many days but until we figure out what she is, it's safe to assume she's human and even if she's not, I doubt she has an animal living in her life we do so we are the only connection she has to this plane of existence.” I explained the way I understood it.

“So you are saying we have to go bring her out? How?” My twin asked.

“We mark her”

“What?? Do you know what you are saying? Who gets to do the marking? She still hadn't chosen anyone before this happened”

“I think he means all of us, Axel. He's saying we will mark her.” Says Alpha Kane, a pensive look on his face.

“That's ridiculous! Can you imagine the difficulties that would bring? So I not only have to watch my back against you, now we have to share a mate? It can't work.” Axel protested.

“Axel, the issue is, none of this matters. Whatever happens, we need to do this because her life depends on it. Or do you suggest we leave her in limbo? Who knows what she's going to experience there? I'm saying let's do it. We'll figure everything else out later” I told them.

“You have a good point Ares. And she's a pure soul, if some god takes interest in her, a mark might no longer be enough to get her out.” Kane said.

“It won't? I thought that was the highest claim”

“Yes but gods like to think they are above every rule so we might have to spend time with her in wolf form, especially at night. With skin to skin contact for a long period of time, they won't have a choice.” Alpha Kane explained.

“But this is so unfair. You guys already got the chance to get her to like you and I never did. And didn't you say you weren't interested in her? How will that work?” Axel asked me.

“Sometimes, you sound like a child. Didn't you get the part where I said her life depends on it?” I asked, I was getting angry at this point.

“Fine, fine! When you guys are ready, let me know. For now, I need to go take a shower, I don't want her seeing me like this. Ares, open your mindlink, the pack is driving me nuts” he said before leaving.

“Is he always like that?” Kane asked me.

“He doesn't do well under pressure. He will come around. The most important thing is for her to come back to us. We can still give her the chance to choose, right?”

“That would be really difficult. You think you can resist the mate bond?”

“I've been doing it all these while. Some days it's more difficult than the rest but I manage. It's not like I don't want her but can't you see? She's human and so fragile. Why the goddess would place my life in such delicate hands, I'll never know but I have to fight it.” I explained, hoping he'll understand me.

It's unfounded that one says no to the source of their existence but I feel strongly about this. Three alpha wolves to one puny human with an abusive past just sounds like a mistake.

“Ares, I hope you don't regret this. I'll advise you to rethink this. You taking yourself out of the situation favors me the most because I have a feeling she's pissed at you both for not coming for her but I know if she gets past that, she's likely to choose you. And here you are, not even giving her that chance.”

“You still don't get it. What if something happens to me? Do you know how that would affect her? She's human but once we mark her, she's going to feel as much as we do. Imagine putting her through the misery of a lost mate bond. I don't want to be responsible for that.”

“Well, I hope you don't regret it. The mate bond is very powerful without the marking, once we mark her, it'll be ten times stronger. So prepare to be away from her the moment she wakes up.” He advised.

“Sure. Thanks for coming to our rescue, we would have been wiped out without your intervention.”

“Well, no one gets to do that except me. I've got to go make some calls. Let me know when you all are ready. The earlier the better” he joked walking out of the room.

I didn't feel like leaving her side. I may never have the opportunity to be in her presence again so I decided to soak in as much of this amazing feeling as possible.

I wasn't totally being selfish here, I was protecting her as well. My wolf would definitely understand, he has to. Everything would be better if she didn't end up with someone like me. I hoped Kane would be able to care for her regardless of what species she turned out to be; I knew he was a good man but I didn't know why I felt apprehensive about letting her go. It's definitely the mate bond clouding my judgment.

I lay close to her on the bed, her scent serenading my entire being.

I was in this zen when I slept off and I had the strangest dream.

Aurora was in a fierce battle with a god; and she was losing.
