The Tripartite Mate Bond Chapter 62: CHAPTER SIXTY-TWO
“KANE'S POV”
It's been over a week now and that itch wouldn't stop scratching. Each time I related with the twins, it seemed as if a bright light would shine on my heart, slowing down the burn but otherwise, my heart was always ablaze.
So I began to avoid Aurora. She was a dragon folk so it made sense she was the one causing this but even though I was far from her, it kept burning.
Something else was happening at the same time. I began to hate Axel and Ares. The thought of them having access to Aurora made me feel a different level of anger.
So when a total stranger reached out to me and suggested they had the answer to my problem, I took the chance.
As I hurried down the path to the strange house I was directed to, I felt goosebumps all over my flesh.
But I wasn't afraid. After all, I was a predator not a prey.
For the last two weeks, I'd been getting these messages from doves who died immediately I took the paper from them.
At first, it was something I could ignore. It was stating the obvious.
“Your hair is the perfect shade of black, Mr. Kane Decker”
“Your father died a terrible death, don't you think?”
“Your mate would be so perfect if she was simply, just. for. you”
This one rattled me. There's no way anyone would know about this if they hadn't had access to my mind. I refused to talk to anyone for too long to avoid letting out what was happening to me.
But I still didn't give any reaction to this. I was busy looking for a mole that probably didn't exist so I wouldn't focus on the disturbing situation. What if they had left another mind-reader with me? I had refused Fang coming along with us. If they couldn't trust me, then the treaty was as good as useless.
Axel had done good on his promise of a better security system and with each passing day, I feared I might have to use my Alpha command to bring out the traitors. It was why I pushed Aurora to get stronger. If she gets her dragon, no one would dare try to usurp my power when I'm incapacitated.
But this morning, the dove that delivered the message didn't die after doing its job.
“I can give you what you want. Follow the dove” the paper read.
Weird but against my better judgment, I followed a dove out of the safety of my pack territory and went deep into the lair of witches.
They didn't do territories like we possessive wolves but when they settled somewhere, there were signs. For example, the burn marks on the ground showed a ritual had been performed here.
Maybe this mysterious helper was a witch and he or she could sever the bond in a way that didn't kill any of us. I still needed them alive to avoid another war between us. Regardless of my feelings towards the mating situation, I was happy we could stop killing each other.
But the question that boggled my mind from the moment I came out here was what could this person want from me in exchange for solving my problem?
The dove stopped at a house that looked very normal from the outside but I doubted it was a beautiful house with nice paint and children running around. This person didn't sound like a cool mom helping her husband live a great life. So I wasn't shocked when the door opened by itself and the paintings on the wall showed how much of a tortured soul this person might be.
I looked back, checking to see if anyone followed me before entering the house.
“You came” a female voice spoke out but I didn't see anyone.
“If we are to have a deal, I'll prefer to see who I'm talking to,” I said into the darkness.
Then I heard the door shut aggressively and a light switch came on.
I was a little disappointed. A young, goth girl stared at me like I had something on my face.
“You look older. Scarlet said you were the perfect one. The one no one would suspect” she said and the tone all but riled me up.
“I'm not here for these dramatics. Yes you are a psychic, well I can shred this whole house in a minute. But we don't need to display our powers. Tell me what you want and how you are going to cut those strings without killing anyone” I growled at her, and she was taken back.
She's smart to be scared. I'll have to kill her if all of this is futile. I wasn't going to let anyone know I even thought about it.
“Scarlet is my dragon and she wants to meet your mate. We've been trying to talk to her for a while now but she doesn't like taking naps” she said, a smirk most would consider sweet lighting up her face but all I saw was a troubled girl.
“But that's the dragon that's been terrorizing her”
“Only because she's been trying to get in touch with her. Besides, once you bring her, we'll be able to switch all the links to the four of us. You'll get a dragon and two women all to yourself”
“I'm not interested.” Her face fell. “She's all I want. You say your dragon will be mine?” I ask, my interest perking up.
“Absolutely! She's going to remove Lyra’s mark on you and replace it with hers. Amazing, right?”
And I thought about it. It was a win-win situation. I could finally quell that desire in me. The one that wouldn't let anyone else have her.
“The process would be safe right? If anything happens to her or me, you'll never survive it. Besides, I need to see this dragon before I believe anything you say” I demand.
“Sure. Once you agree, I'll take you to her. She can't wait to meet you, trust me”
“Fine.”
I hope this isn't going to come back to bite my butt later. I just needed that itch to stop scratching.
