The Tripartite Mate Bond Chapter 128: CHAPTER HUNDRED AND TWENTY-EIGHT
I coughed a little, making them start in surprise and I sat up.
“Why are you guys standing all the way there?” I asked, trying to break the ice first
“We wanted to talk to you,” A petite girl with a cute pixie cut said, her mood not mirroring mine in any way. These people were upset.
“Yea, sure. Come sit,” I waved them over and dropped the files and iPad I was working on.
The room was large and had so many recreational areas in it. There was even a beer pong table and a gaming station.
It was basically where the pack bonded apart from the dinner table. I hadn't been there since I got back and I only ate once a day because my mother-in-law wouldn't let me starve.
I watched them gradually pile onto the sofas that were scattered around the room, especially the two big ones opposite mine that were on the wall.
“We wanted to blame you for what happened with our Alphas but we don't want to be rash. We just want to know why you chose them over us,” the girl asked and it was obvious she was the boldest of the group.
They were basically young people my age and probably all from the same class
I took a deep breath, grateful for the chance to explain myself instead of being judged from a distance.
“What's your name?” I asked, smiling even though it hurt my cheeks.
I really hoped I didn't look like an overfed kitten
“Sonia,” she replied
“Okay Sonia, that's totally wrong. I didn't choose one pack as I'm totally capable of handling both. I was supposed to come back here for the Luna ceremony here as well when things just went crazy,” I began and I took them through the last three months and at first, they found it difficult to believe me, probably thinking I was making up stories especially the dragon part until I showed them the fire that was gradually coming back to me.
“Wow 😲” I heard their gasps and their faces gave me courage to try something more audacious
I gradually began pulling the oxygen from the fire but I replaced it with humid air and gradually turned it into ice.
“That's so cool, Luna!” someone exclaimed from the back.
I felt super cool too. I missed my powers and how much confidence it gave me.
“Thank you, Michael. So, I'm really sorry that it took this long for me to come. We might not perform the ceremony anytime soon because of their health but I'm still here for everything you need a Luna for,” I reassured them and their acceptance was the best feeling I'd had in a while.
I didn't tell them about the pregnancy as there was still a traitor on the prowl and they might be here right now or be connected to these teenagers so I knew to be careful with the things I told them.
“But what's really happening with them, Luna? It's been days and no news yet. The pack is worried,” Another boy that I'd forgotten his name asked me. I made a mental note to get to know them better
“I’m sure most of you are aware of the recent attacks happening around the supernatural world,”
“Yea, I heard the witches want to wipe out the vampires because they're using them as blood slaves,” Pete said and I shook my head
“It's not any of the factions fighting the other but a group of three supernaturals who think we should be controlling the humans and enslaving them but that is not right and no one would agree with them so my guess is that they made a deal with something darker than anything we've ever seen and it's giving them power to do so much damage. The poison is no longer spreading because my friend is a witch and she's helping take it out. It's a slow process but they're surely going to be fine. Alpha Axel is already out of the danger zone,” I explained to them and I could hear the sigh of relief in my soul.
“Does this mean that we're all gonna die? Is there any hope of surviving whatever these power-hungry people are doing?” Sonia, the pixie cut girl asked me.
“In fact, there is. Like I said earlier, I have a dragon and so does Elena, my witch friend. We're supposed to be dragon riders and all that but we really didn't have anyone training us. Well, I did but he's currently in the dungeons for trying to kidnap me. But the major thing is that this has happened before and dragons were the ones that defeated them. They'll be coming back soon, I can't say when exactly. But before that happens, we all need to train extra hard and make sure we defend our borders against those creeps. Now that they've designed this poison, we need to adapt and train ourselves to avoid getting bitten,”
“Alpha Ares is the one in charge of battle tactics. We've just been doing normal training since he's been sick. What do we do now?” Pete asked me.
I could see how much they wanted to help but no one was available to guide them.
“What happened to our Delta?”
“He hasn't been in the pack for about two weeks now,” Samantha, another girl replied. She was really pretty and yes, I still get surprised at how beautiful werewolf women are.
“Yea, I think he had issues Alpha and decided to go work in the human town,” Pete added
“Or he was sent there on purpose. Let's not think of the worst case scenario. They're going to be fine soon and we'll find out what happened. But for now, I'll get you a strict routine from Alpha Kane and don't worry, Beta Chris will vet it before you guys start working with it. We must all be on our guard always. No one is allowed to be weak or to lose focus because someone might be saved because you are strong enough to defend them, alright?”
“Yes Luna,” they agreed and it gave me a sense of joy and peace. I had achieved something today and I didn't take their approval and forgiveness lightly
“I’m hoping you guys can help me talk to your parents. I'll be joining the pack for dinner today and I'll be so happy if we can have something nice and less dramatic. I would also love to give them details on how everything is going so they don't feel left out just because our Alphas are out of commission,”
“Thank you Luna. We're sorry for the misunderstanding,” Sonia said, finally spotting a smile.
“There's no problem, I'm happy we were able to get that out of the way. Why aren't you guys in class?” I asked, realizing it was school hours and they were here instead.
“We're done with high school, we're supposed to be heading to the council college but the whole ‘darkness and destruction’ situation stopped us” Elijah responded, it was difficult keeping up with all their names but I remember he was one of those I spent time with in the safehouse when we were attacked the last time I was here.
“Then we have to figure out something to keep you guys occupied. Give me a few days to lay out something. But for now, you can go to the gym and start working out, okay?” I instructed them with a smile and they all ran off with a happier countenance than when I'd seen them staring at me while I worked.
I put my attention back to the work I was doing and I realized something was wrong.
The figures weren't only scattered, they were wrong
Earlier, I thought it was just jumbled up but I'd arranged the outgoing figures to the right and the incoming to the left so I would see where the money for the construction was going to be taken out from.
But there were so many transactions that were unaccounted for and it was going to an offshore account that had an unfamiliar name attached to it.
I went through the bank records on the iPad and I noticed that the payments were automated so if you weren't paying so much attention to it, you wouldn't notice it and considering how much is spent monthly running this pack, I doubt anyone would notice it if they weren't paying attention.
I couldn't call the bank because I wasn't officially Luna here yet but I decided to go check if Axel was stable enough to give me some answers.
Unexplained financial records could only mean one thing; the traitor in NightShade Pack was one of the pack’s leaders and they were using the pack money to fund their actions.
Hopefully, I was wrong but with everything going on, I wouldn't bet on that.
