The Tripartite Mate Bond Chapter 19: CHAPTER NINETEEN

I tried killing them as they poured out of the portal but I was getting weaker by each kill and I knew I needed to stop. Each time one came out, it ran straight ahead, not even looking in our direction.

“What do we do?” I asked Ares.

“Simple, we kill the vampire,” he responded, sitting down on a wall close to the border.

I was about to run the vampire through when Kane stopped us.

“Stop. This is no ordinary vampire. He is not the one powering himself, he is using another life force. Ares, you know what I'm talking about, go and find it and kill it. Don't give it a second to deceive you; even if it's in the form of a baby” he said, wearing one of the shorts we stashed all over the pack.

“Okay, so when I kill it, I'll give you a signal. Kill him immediately.” He responded.

“Yes. Remember, no hesitation”

Ares nodded and ran off in the direction of the pack school which was on the other side of the pack.

We had it built that way, away from the center of the pack so in case of an attack, they had a clear path to safety before we were surrounded.

I shifted as well, unable to communicate with Alpha Kane in my wolf form.

We walked around the Vampire whose eyes were pure white and unmoving, his concentration not breaking for a second. He was literally static.

“So you are saying if I dug my hands into his chest and pulled out his heart, he wouldn't die? I mean, he's literally just… there” I wondered out loud, standing aside as we watched rogues jump out of the portal he had drawn.

“The moment you touch anywhere close to him, you will get thrown back so far you'll probably break into from the force. There's a strong forcefield around him, he can't even hear anything happening around him. They are depending on us not knowing anything about this and being too occupied with the rogues they are sending our way. Once your brother finds the power source and destroys it, we can bring him down” he explained before he sat down, fatigue showing on his form.

“Wow. How did you know about all of this?” I asked, shocked at his vast expanse of knowledge on witches and vampires.

“My grandmother was a witch. She taught me how to protect myself against the evil part of her kind.

“Well, I've never been more grateful to anyone as I am to you today. This would have been our annihilation” I said, expressing my gratitude.

“Well, we definitely can't have that. Aurora would be miserable” he replied with a smile.

He probably didn't know I and my brother had fucked up our opportunities to have her.

I was sure she'd insist on going back home with him and there was nothing we could do to stop her.

Bouts of weakness hit me again and this time, I knew it wasn't because of the battle happening in front of us.

“What is happening to us?" we said out loud at the same time as I collapsed on the ground.

“Ares POV”

I was breathing heavily out of tiredness, my wolf having gone through thousands of rogue wolves in a short space of time. I knew my pack members could feel the fatigue rolling off their leaders and I was grateful for Axel's thoughtfulness when he gave them a boost with his words. He was good at that and I always left the public speaking to him.

I rounded the back of the first pack house before getting to the entrance of the school.

I was a little boy when I read about the rituals witches held in order to have a higher chance of survival in a world that only allowed for strength.

The supernatural lived right under the noses of humans and we maintained the treaty’s agreement in different countries, one of which was to ensure our secrecy.

If a human ever found out about us, they would develop amnesia due to the drink we all carried with us when we crossed into their lands.

We did our businesses there as everything thrived with the amount of population they had, and with a little help from the witches, everyone's business was doing amazing.

I was always obsessed with books as I grew up and at this moment, it seemed I had been preparing all my life for this.

I was looking for a power source; it could be anything. A white, meek lamb, a beautiful gazelle, a girl dressed in white or at worse, a baby.

The aim was to make one hesitate in which they revealed their true form and took your life source.

Witches who successfully do this elongate their lives, some doing it time and time over so they could live up to five hundred years.

Knowing what I knew now, I followed the pull of power that came with the power source, trying as much as possible to be quiet.

The vampire may lock himself in a seemingly impregnable lock of a shield, but a power source could multitask.

They would be celebrated for maintaining a perfect cover and sucking the life force of an Alpha Wolf.

There wasn't an all out war between the species but everyone was power hungry and the only reason we have relative peace was because of the council.

They didn't interfere in anything until you brought it to them so until this war has ended, we were much on our own.

As I got closer to the principal's office, I knew I had to shift into my wolf.

Many people assumed their human form would kill the power source in a better way but I knew it was a facade, a face meant to garner sympathy and make you hesitant to kill it.

But all I had to do was tell my wolf it was standing between him and his mate and we've got a deal.

I went into the room and I pushed open the door, startling the witch.

Its concentration broke for a second, making me see their real form before returning back to the screaming baby that had blood splatters all over it.

I felt a higher wave of the weakness that I had been feeling for a while now but I knew it was either now or it would be in the afterlife so I pounced, going straight for the head.

My paws were strong and powerful, not giving any chance of escape.

Every attempt to push me over made my wolf press harder until it stopped moving.

I was about to let go when I realized it was not dead.

“Wow, faking death? Nice” I thought to myself and I let out claws from my hand. I properly killed the witch

“It's done” I said to Axel in the mindlink.

The moment I delivered the message, I shifted back to my human form without meaning to.

I fell to my knees, my body giving out under me.

Even though we had won the war, it seemed something else was heavily wrong.
