The Tripartite Mate Bond Chapter 42: CHAPTER FORTY-TWO

I can't believe they were trying to make me feel like a pup caught with their fingers dipped in a cookie jar. My wolf literally turned his back on me in my head.

Traitor. Well, that seems to be me in this situation.

“Oh you thought we were simply going to send her off without some sort of insurance? Kane, I was privileged to meet your father and he's the definition of cunning. I know you hate this union but it's already finished. If you try to make her reject us, you'll kill her” Ares said.

“That's a lie. People reject mates all the time” I argued.

“Don't be so stubborn, Kane. First, she has been human all her life so she doesn't have the strength we all have due to our lifestyle. I doubt she can even beat anyone in a fight. Her family abused her all her life, keeping her weak. She recently developed powers and you can see what that is doing to her mind, how scared and terrified she feels. You really expect her to be able to cut two already set bonds without consequences?” Axel snapped at me.

Immediately, I felt terrible.

On one hand, my plans would have killed my mate; and on the other, I will never have her to myself.

“Look, you all would never understand. It's been my purpose in life to obliterate you all and now, not only do I have to share a mate with you mutts, we now have to sign a treaty and pretend to be best buddies? Common, even you can understand it” I shouted, exasperated.

“I thought you were willing to try. I don't want to choose between any of you, Kane. The thought hurts. You were literally planning to force me to reject them after impregnating me like I'm some broodmare” Aurora said in her little voice, breaking my defenses.

“I'm so sorry, I didn't mean it that way. We will do it the right way, I promise. You are not rejecting anyone, not even Ares who pretends he doesn't want you. We will make it work, I mean it this time” I pleaded, her disappointment in me shredding my heart.

While everyone else hurt her, I was confident in being the perfect mate but now, I was worse than them all combined. I felt horrible.

“Alpha Kane, I understand why you hold on so tightly to your father's beliefs. But he's dead. You can't allow his ghost to prevent you from having a great life.” The wizard said.

“Besides, have you forgotten this union isn't even about us but the future of our lovely mate? We all know deep down she's destined for greatness, why don't we work together to make that work? You too, brother” Axel addressed us both.

“I believe we'll work it out. Maybe not immediately, but I no longer believe I can resist the mate bond. I don't even want to. Being in the same room with Aurora is a blessing. She's quiet now but I feel a greatness in her that makes everything good. I'm ready to die for her” Ares says, his words cryptic yet so true.

“Um, no one is dying and guys, it's me. This talk of greatness sounds like you have another mate somewhere” she chuckled. I love that sound.

“Oh, don't worry. One day, I'll remind you of this moment. You don't see it, but we do and it's amazing. Now, go with Juno. She's ready to make you shop till your legs start aching so remember you are the Luna, not the other way around. When you are tired, you tell her to bring you back home” Axel instructs her.

“And stay close to her and your guards. We have to stay back and work on the impromptu ceremony. You know how important you are to us, don't make any move without letting her know, okay?” Ares added.

She nods her head and jumps excitedly to where the Beta female was waiting for her.

“Remember not to get too excited, Mi Amor. No one must know about this” I whispered in her head.

She might not have forgiven me but her safety is important.

I wished one of us could go with her but the ceremony required a lot of heavy lifting and instructions.

If everyone was involved in the set up, no one would be left to protect the pack so it was an all hands on deck situation.

While we carried tables, chairs and utensils, it occurred to me that I never apologized to the twins for my lapse in judgment. Even my wolf had his nose turned up in anger against me.

I messed up and now that I think about it, I'm happy Fang could read minds and was able to stop me from turning into a monster by killing my own mate.

I decided to begin with the easier one. My wolf and I began a negotiation process which ended with him getting 5 runs and as much gazelle as he could hunt. Man just wanted to get fat off this. Cunning wolf.

When everything was set up, I approached Fang who was doing some magic stuff u didn't care to understand with the flowers.

“Hey man, I just wanted to apologize for the situation earlier. I let my jealousy get the best of me. You are important to my mate's progress and I wouldn't want any bad blood between us” I said all in one breath.

He looked at me like I had grown two heads. I had to touch my head to be sure. No, still one stubborn head on me.

Then he opened his mouth like a fish out of water and I understood why he was shocked.

Alphas don't apologize. We could drag our pack to hell and back and they'll just have to take it. It's what they signed up for.

“It's… it's no problem Alpha. Thank you” he stuttered.

I smiled and patted him on the back before carrying the huge flower vase to where the former Luna wanted it.

She smacked me in the head when I got there.

“You still want to live in your father's shadow, boy? He's dead and gone! You have to make your own decisions now! Be a man! The next time this happens, you and I will have serious words” she shouted at me.

“I'm sorry, Mama. It won't happen again” I apologized and her eyes softened.

“You know, there was a time when we almost settled this age long feud. Me and your mama planned it all behind them and she always brought you with her and you'll be okay with Axel and Ares till you all fall asleep in random places.” She reminisced.

I didn't remember this

“What happened?”

“Your father wanted the treaty to allow him access to NightShade without supervision and my mate refused. They went on and on until it degenerated into another battle.” She sighed.

“Well, this time, we have Aurora. She won't let us do that.” I replied, a smile on our faces as we thought about her.

She hugged me and I took a deep breath and went to address the elephant in the room.

They were both carrying big logs of wood where more people would sit and I lent a hand to Axel.

“You know she's definitely going to like you more. You are the one with the jokes” I said to him.

He looked at me and I was scared for a moment that it wouldn't work and he'd expect me to grovel on my hands and knees but he's an Alpha. He understands.

“Naa, Ares gives that I don't care vibe because it draws her to him. He's gonna be her favorite. Cunning bastard” he laughed. Everything was fine for a moment.

Then his face changed from laughter to horror.

“Juno and Aurora have been kidnapped,” Ares growled.
