The Tripartite Mate Bond Chapter 129: CHAPTER HUNDRED AND TWENTY-NINE

The air in the hospital smelled different and I couldn't place my hand on why but as I waited for Elena to wake up, I realized I was getting weaker.

I walked closer to Axel and I checked him out first. He was still sleeping so I kept the reports I'd planned to show him on the table that was in between their headboards.

Suddenly, my phone rang. It was Kane.

“Hey baby,” he said to me, his voice sounding so far away.

I walked to the seat close to Ares and I held his hand while talking to Kane.

“Are you alright? Your voice sounds faint,” I asked, struggling to stay awake.

“I should be asking you that. I was just in training when I noticed something was wrong. I knew it wasn't from my end and I've been calling those two thick heads but they're not picking up. I understand your anger towards me but what's their deal?” He asked, his voice sounding stronger with his irritation increasing.

“You know we haven't spoken since we left. Um, we were attacked, Flynn was trying to kidnap me and it turns out he's working with whoever is behind these gruesome killings. We captured him but the twins have been infected, Axel is safe but you're probably feeling faint because Ares isn't safe yet and I don't know what to do anymore. The pack witch isn't here yet and Elena has passed out, probably from overexerting herself,” I explained in one breath, scared my mind would shut off mid sentence.

I put my head down on the bed, my hand still holding onto Ares.

“Damn. Let me call Jayden so he'd take over. I love our mate bond so much baby but this part of it is an inconvenience, trust me,” he grumbled.

“Yea, I was talking about it with Ares the other day. Can't we do something about it? Like, remove the part where our lives are attached together? I guess it was put there to avoid you guys killing each other but we're merging the pack soon, that won't be happening, right?”

“You're right. I hope we don't all die this time around,”

“I don't even want to think in that direction. How's Lyra?” I asked, feeling so sad that I wasn't there with her

“She hates me, that's for sure but she's feeling better. Cora has been checking up on her for you,”

“Oh. I'll call her to thank her, I'm really grateful,”

“Yea. Um, are you still angry with me?” He asked, his voice making me feel like hot chocolate.

“I'm not sure how to feel anymore. Too many things are happening at the same time and I'm just tired all the time,” I groaned.

“Don't worry, we'll get through it soon, okay?”

“Alright. Warn everyone about the new system of attacks. They'll poison you and you won't be able to heal from it. So you should tell Jayden to work with Chris so they can find a solution if we're unable to,” I told him, and I felt my eyes closing.

“Alright, I'll do that now. Please I'm really sorry for everything I did. I know this isn't the –”

“Kane, call your Beta and give him the necessary instructions. Apologize properly when we have all the time I'm the world, okay?” I cut him off.

I could feel my hold on reality gradually slipping and I knew we had at least, less than a few minutes before everything would flat out.

I cut the call so he won't be tempted to explain his reasons, Kane was too stubborn sometimes.

Immediately I dropped the call, Fang ran into the room.

“Shit, what's going on Luna? You look pale?”

“I don't think Ares is doing too well,” I told him.

Alarmed, he ran to his side and began speaking some Latin words but deep down, I knew it was just prolonging the inevitable.

Every other part of him had healed except the gash on his leg. I would have suggested cutting it off but I was scared he might lose his will to live afterwards.

He wasn't a vampire that could regenerate everything but a heart and I knew how much Ares loved to run with his wolf.

And being incapacitated in this war would drive him crazy as he wouldn't be able to do anything but hide with the rest of his pack.

I couldn't do that to him so the best option was to pray and hope whatever Fang was doing would hold on long enough for Zelda to come. The three magical beings would definitely be able to heal him and if they couldn't, then we'd resort to the worst case scenario.

“What's happening?” I heard Elena's groggy voice.

“The poison is spreading again,” Fang replied, pausing from his incantations.

“Shit, the rope I tied wasn't tight enough. We need to move him outside,” She said, jumping up from the small cot she was sleeping on earlier.

Elena didn't even need to do anything for me yet here she was, sacrificing her power and rest for my mate and all of us to live. It warmed my heart. What I searched for in Juno, I'd found it in a witch.

“Guards!” I shouted and five of them ran into the room.

I was grateful for my mates insisting on me always walking around with them.

“Carry Alpha Ares outside, he needs the sun,” I commanded and they quickly took him outside.

“Luna, what's happening?” Pack members asked me as a crowd began gathering around me.

“You guys need to give space for him to breathe, okay? I'll explain everything later but we need to get him stable first,” I instructed them.

“Luna, stay close to him. We can use the mate bond as well,” Doctor Ben who joined us after we'd moved him outside instructed.

“Doctor, are you sure about that? Remember she's pregnant. I'll rather we brought Alpha Axel out for that instead,” Elena said worriedly.

“I've been studying this poison and the moment they come in contact with each other, it'll simply replicate in his body and we'll have twice the problem. This is our last resort and we can't keep waiting for a third witch,” Doc replied.

The air was tense and for the first time since I got pregnant, I feared for my baby. I wanted to have this child even though the circumstances weren't perfect.

It was what got me through the difficult nights of the past week. The thought of finally holding a newborn in my arms, one we could all pour out love into and nurture to perfection.

But if I didn't take this risk, we'll all die so what choice did I really have?

So I went closer to Ares and held his hand.

There was no movement and I knew he was closer to fading out than before.

“Guys, please hurry up,” I said sleepily and I lay down next to him.

While Doc attached tubes to his wound to suck out the bad blood, Fang and Elena held hands together and began changing words that I didn't understand.

The sky became dark and heavy wind blew but they kept at it, not fading for a second.

Chris ran out of the pack house in his wolf form and ran to Elena which nearly broke her concentration but she didn't let it happen.

Then they finished the words and the sky cleared, a strong beam of sunlight shining down on us.

It was symbolic and the growling wolf near us wasn't the focus of the moment but the coughs from my mate who I nearly lost.

“Did it work?” I asked foolishly.

Of course it worked, Ares held my hands tightly in his and we took in each other's presence.

But I felt a wetness between my legs and I prayed I'd peed on my body not what I feared it was.

Tears were already streaming down my face when I looked down.

Blood.
