The Tripartite Mate Bond Chapter 124: CHAPTER HUNDRED AND TWENTY-FOUR

As Ares held my body in a warm embrace as we drove away, my mind kept wandering to the past events.

I can't believe I'd nearly been killed three times in the past month and that my mate was an asshole or that I was never powerless, just being poisoned. It made me more serious and intentional about undoing the life bond that we had. I was always scared of them dying just because of me and now i had a small one to worry about as well. Even though the circumstances were not alluring, I was already falling in love with the child that will come out of me soon.

But a scarier thought attacked my mind, weakening my resolve to face this stage of my life with positivity. Now that I'm pregnant, I knew my training was going to be shelved for a while and I would have to start afresh after birth but what scared me the most was this war happening while I'm in labor or even heavily pregnant.

Kane had succeeded in making my parents right. They would have been better off with my twin brother. I wished I was the one that had died because he would have never gone through all I did

I shook my head physically, trying to get rid of the rancid thoughts. Yes, none of this was clear and I basically didn't know what to do from here on but I was going to be strong for my child and protect them fiercely. I could mope forever in what had already happened or put things in place to ensure my baby didn't only survive but thrived in a better world.

This is my reality and I needed to stop moping and find a way forward.

I took off my power pearls and gave it to Ares. It was time to start letting my power free again, the pearls were blocking it a little bit.

“Are you okay?” He asked in concern.

“Yes Baby. I just don't like the restrictions. I want to know when my power wakes up,” I replied quietly

“Is that safe though?” Axel asked and our eyes met in the rearview mirror.

“Yes, sure. I've mastered the skill of control. I'm not going to suddenly combust in fire. It happened that way before because I didn't have a reserve for my power and it was everywhere at the same time. But now, there's a deep well where everything is stored and I feel weak because it got depleted,” I explained to them.

“Okay Mama. Just let me know if anything else is bothering you, okay?” He assured me and then kissed my hair.

“Thank you so much guys. You've been standing behind me and making sure I felt better without making it feel awkward,”

“We're your soulmates, Princess. It's our pleasure, okay?”

“He's right, now close your eyes and sleep. It's been awhile since you rested,” Ares commanded and my body simply betrayed me and relaxed on his broad chest and I dozed off to the slow sounds coming from the radio and the rhythmic breathing that soothed me.

Loud noises woke me up from a nightmare that I couldn't remember what it was about and I looked around to find out what was wrong.

“What's going on? Where's Ares?” I asked Axel who was driving manically through dense forests away from the road.

“We were attacked and he had to take some warriors to deal with it. We had to get off the road as they were looking for you. But don't worry, there's a cabin down this path where we'd wait for them,” he explained to me.

“But who's attacking us and why are they looking for me? The only enemy I have is either on the other side in Arkonos or my dead foster Father. Who could be doing this?” I wondered out loud, my emotions in a state of despair.

“Don't worry, we'll get answers once they're back. I suspect it's Kane trying to get you back but we're definitely stronger than him. He'll bring a prisoner on his way back,”

“But what if something happens to him, Axel? Shouldn't you be back there? I hope Elena is safe too. She hasn't been in direct battle before,”

“You're worried, I understand. That's why you're underestimating your mate. It'll take more than a few puny werewolves to actually make a dent on his –”

“Ahh!” I screamed as I felt a sharp pain on my right leg.

“Shit, it seems someone bit him. Shit, shit, shit!” Axel panicked

“Let's go back, Axel. I can defend myself if I'm left in the car, my power pearl still has something in it. Let's go back,”

“Baby, –”

“Please Axel, we can't just run to safety while he's probably very injured, let's go back,”

“Okay, but promise me you won't come out of this car,”

“I promise. You can get Elena to come in with me as well so she'll protect the both of us,” I told him and he nodded and righted the slightly bent vehicle back the way we'd come and he began driving quickly.

The closer we got to the location, the more bites Ares got. On his arm, legs and one even grazed his neck before he escaped their jaws.

We were in full panic mode at this point.

“They've got a lot of backup. We might have accessed them wrongly,” Axel observed as we started hearing the snaps of jaws biting into flesh and howls of dying wolves.

“Can we call Kane? I don't think he'll go this far when I'm not like, running away forever or something,” I suggested.

“There's no need for that yet but if you notice it getting out of hand, please call him, okay?” He informed me before parking a few meters away from the scuffle.

I watched the battle from a distance, my eyes seeking for my bleeding mate.

“There! Axel, go and help him please,” I screamed as a wolf dove right in the direction of Ares' neck and Axel quickly got down from the car and went to save him from imminent death.

I quickly rushed to the front of the car and was trying to activate the child lock when the passenger door opened, making me scream out in panic as a familiar, yet dangerous face looked at me with a dangerous smirk.
