The Tripartite Mate Bond Chapter 139: CHAPTER HUNDRED AND THIRTY-NINE

“Look at you darling. You look like Thanatos himself, the death bringer,” my foster mother beamed as I walked down the steps of the trailer that served as a room for me. Hers was next door and the rest of the camp, well, they lived in shacks so each time I walked down these steps, I always felt terrible that I got this and they got that.

But to Leticia, it was the worst she'd ever had to endure, except my foster father's irritable incapacitation.

“I wanted to impress you today,” I said with a smile. Yes, it was fake of course, the woman irritated me. Especially with the perfume she loved putting on that smelled of pinkified dead fishes.

“That’s smart of you daughter, now we're packing up to move and I need you to start taking more responsibility, hm? No more walks and tours, we have to make these people do our bidding or they'll get slack and lazy. Go from this side and make sure that they're not messing this up,” she commanded and I kept nodding to her instructions.

“Mess it up in what way?” I asked, trying to understand her words. I didn't want to do anything wrong, she would be pissed at something I'll do later so no need to get her started earlier than necessary.

“You know, weapons, supplies and stuff. This won't be a one day battle unfortunately so we've been working on these things for long. We need everything packaged properly so we don't infect ourselves, hm?” She explained with an overly excited smile and I could tell my little exchange with her in Juno’s body made her super excited.

“Alright Mom. I'll get to work,” I said, moving away from her stifling presence.

“Great! Remember, packaging is very important!” She shouted at my receding form and I nodded.

I walked down the path, it winded down forever, tons of tents and shacks containing thousands of people in the camp.

I went to each shed and went through their work, making sure the poisons were properly packed. I agreed with her, no one here should be getting infected with it. In fact, no one entirely should be infected but I doubt she'd approve that part of my presentation so I just kept going, keeping my eyes on the ground for any shiny object, scared to say the word out loud to avoid someone else getting possessed.

The woman was more than a freaking siren, she was a demon and I wouldn't put someone through that horrible experience again.

“You can't pack it like that buddy, it's gonna spill out if you make any sudden movement. Here, let me help you,” I said to one of the guys I walked in on as he struggled to get his tent arranged.

He was quite young and my heart broke at the amount of lives she was trying to ruin. I knew she didn't have a conscience but I was hoping there would be a little bit of demarcation for the ages she was bringing into this war. The boy was properly seventeen and yet, here he was.

The weapons had been shared to everyone to carry individually so there wouldn't be need for further distribution when they set up camp in the war zones and it did make a lot of sense.

As I walked through the camp, I'd discovered different types of drugs, herbs, poisons and more that were targeted at the supernatural world. She really wanted that dead army with everything within her.

“I'm sorry, Your highness. I'm new at this. Don't worry, I can handle it,” he said, blocking the path where I was supposed to enter to help him out.

Weird.

I walked around him, insistent on helping him tie up the tent properly but he wouldn't budge.

“What's your name?” I asked, curious for the reason behind his weird behavior.

“Jordan,” he answered, huffing as he kept trying to hold down the tent and its contents while tying it tightly enough. That was quite difficult as there were many things in his, more than most people's.

“Okay Jordan, in life you kind of have to let people help you when they can, okay? I'm not as weak as I look so let's do this together, alright?” I said to him, trying to encourage him to relax.

I didn't blame anybody here for being scared of me, Leticia made me out to be some little witch she had molded out from her heart and womb so I was just like her, probably worse with the whole fire demonstrations so I understood the boys fretting.

But then, his reaction was just a little bit over the top. He stood still, not budging from his position and it simply made me more determined to figure out what was happening.

“Jordan?”

“Hm?” He answered, sweat pouring from his pores and I knew it was not as a result of the wild fires we'd started to scare away wild animals.

“Open your tent,” I commanded, standing back for him to obey.

Thankfully, it was way down in the long line of tents so I knew Leticia wouldn't see us.

From everything I'd noticed, there were varying degrees of the effects her mind control and manipulation had on people and I guess the type she used on Juno drained her a lot so she probably just influenced these people's obedience and they still maintained a level of free will. It made sense why this guy would be doing something so bad he'd be trembling at the thought of it being discovered.

“Is there any problem, your highness? My son has been doing everything right,” a werewolf walked up to me, his whole figure sturdy but his eyes gave away my suspicion.

It's either the boy isn't his son or they're both hiding the same thing.

“Yea, except obeying simple instructions. I want to see the contents of his tent,” I said, gesticulating towards him

“Oh, but we're in quite a hurry. I'll just help him pack it properly, if you don't mind,” he replied and moved to go help the boy but I stopped him halfway.

“I WANT TO SEE THE CONTENTS OF HIS TENT!” I grunted in irritation.

I hated how easy it was for men to dismiss in this supernatural world and I had to hold back from hurting anyone just to prove a point.

Two people joined and it was becoming a recipe for disaster.

My instincts told me whatever they were hiding wasn't just an extra bag of food or something inconsequential so I didn't need Leticia to find out what was happening.

“Look, I don't care who you are or how you're related to Jordan, go back to your duties, immediately!” I commanded and they reluctantly began to walk away, looking at each other with dread in their expressions.

I bent down and pulled out a sharp, silver knife from the boy's boots and I couldn't help the smile on my face.

“I..I.. can explain, your highness,” the trembling boy exclaimed.

“Shhhh,” I motioned to him, trying to calm his erratic reaction down.

“Is that what's in your tent that you're trying so hard to hide? Don't speak, only nod or shake your head” I instructed.

He nodded

“Are these the only ‘things’ you have in there?” I gesticulated so he could understand what I meant.

He shook his head no.

“Are there many of you with this type of tent?”

He nodded.

“Alright, call your father to help you pack your tent properly and next time, don't do it alone if you're not sure you can, okay?” He nodded and his shocked face still amused me as I walked down the rest of the path, my eyes scanning for the knives in booths that were capable of doing something to Leticia.

I didn't know what it could do but I was damn sure it was dangerous because these people had a lot of it in stock.

As I got closer to the end of the line, my back already hurting from the work, a sort of wire connected into my mind, making me stand in shock.

“Lyra?”
