The Tripartite Mate Bond Chapter 148: CHAPTER HUNDRED AND FORTY-EIGHT
"Wait, you mean there are only four packs left in the wolf factions?” I asked in shock as Axel filled me up on what had been happening while I was busy committing murder in Limbo.
Ares had kissed my forehead before disappearing to inspect whatever armor situation that guard was talking about.
I couldn't believe Elena was still sacrificing herself this much. I'm happy she's found a purpose in all of this chaos but I hoped she took time for herself. I'm definitely heading her away after dinner, because if I knew her, she was exhausting herself to help as much as possible.
“Yes, a lot of people have simply joined the other side instead of getting wiped out. We're the largest stronghold, then DarkMoon and two other packs are still standing. We're currently overpopulated,”
I could see that as there were strange faces all over the place, and they all looked at me weirdly.
“What about Lyra?”
“Your dragon is honestly the reason we haven't been wiped out and this is one of the strongholds with more werewolves. They can't come anywhere near here because she's gonna roast them to ashes. She sends the fleet to war but she guards the pack jealously. I think she's terrified of losing you completely,”
“Fleet?”
That's a strange name for just Scarlett and Tharros
“Yea, there's a whole fleet of them but they have to be careful or they get shot with those spikes. There's magic in it. We would have won this war by now,”
I could see how stressed he was over the whole debacle.
“So we need a change in tactics,”
“Exactly or it's just a protracted waiting game and someday, they'll breach our defenses and all of this would have been for nothing. But hey, now that you're back, Lyra can finally stop worrying and we will have a larger attacking formation,”
That made my heart churn, maybe I shouldn't have been getting fucked while my dragon was out here worrying herself to death about me.
“Don't you worry love, I knew you were awake the moment you opened your eyes. I just knew what you were about to do and took a leave of absence. Even now, I'm scared to go through your mind,” Lyra said and her voice pumped so much life into me as we laughed hysterically at each other.
“You know, she nearly died while searching for you in that water,” Axel said, drawing water to my eyes.
“Lyra…”
“What? Couldn't let my favorite human die. You still haven't learnt how to fly without barfing your entire digestive system out,” she joked and I smiled.
It was moments like this that made every iota of headache I had, absolutely worth it.
“Thank you so much for saving me, girl. I'm ready to finally end this. The right way this time,”
“It's about damn time,” she chuckled and I saw her flying off.
“Where are you off to?”
“I'm calling back the entire brood. We need to re-strategize, we have a goddess among us now,” she replied and I could feel her smile radiate sunshine in my dark soul.
“Totally forgot that tidbit,”
We got to the dining hall the pack uses for larger gatherings instead of the smaller one in the pack house.
“Soak up the little amount of time you have in the time you have. You're gonna have gods and goddesses getting all dramatic on your ass soon,”
“Why would they do that?” I asked, genuinely scared.
I know I should leave Lyra to focus on her flying while I dealt with all the weird facial expressions surrounding me but the idea of meeting gods who had been at this business for eons scared the shit out of me. I wasn't a people's person for real.
“Don't worry your pretty head about that. Let's save the supernatural world or what's left of it first and then we can deal with whatever comes after it, okay?”
Axel steered me away from hitting my leg on a wooden bench as I was more focused on my conversation with Lyra.
“Alright big birdie. Fly safe okay?” I said, giving her a mental pat on the feather.
I squeezed Axel’s hand and he looked at me with a smile.
“Back with us?”
“Sorry, she was saying something important,”
“Shit. What's wrong?”
“Apparently I'm going to be a topic among the other gods but she says that's something for future me to worry about so let's focus on now instead, please?” I said, using our mindlink.
I couldn't believe I'd miss that little feature of my new life.
“Of course, whatever you need baby,”
“For starters, why the fuck are these people staring a hole into my head?” I asked, irritated at this point.
Although I plastered a smile on my face as I ate my dinner, I was still rattled inside. They weren't even being subtle with it.
“Oh shit, we might have to do this sooner than later,”
“Do what?”
“Your Luna ceremony. Their wolves are antsy. They've bonded with Elena considering she's the one making those mirror shields their husbands and brothers go into war with. But you literally just dropped into their midst and the lack of an identity is confusing them,”
“Wait, they're not just refugees?” He shook his head no.
“Everyone that joins pledges their allegiance to us and the pack keeps growing. Ares is on his way back so we'll organize something quick. I'm really sorry it's not the ceremony you deserve,”
“Dude, we're in the middle of a war. Cut our palms or whatever ritual makes the bond form and let's get this over with. Lyra should be back by morning and we'll need to have rounded this whole staring situation up,”
“Wow,” he said, looking at me weirdly. “The goddess part of you is so fucking sexy,” he growled, his eyes showing how attractive he found my attitude.
“Axel?”
“Hm?”
“Are you hard right now in front of your entire pack?”
“It's not my fault! You went all ‘solving every problem in sight’ mode on me and I want to be solved too,” he exclaimed in my mind, a smile tugging at his lips.
I couldn't hold my laughter any second longer.
“What's up?” Ares asked as he joined us on the table, kissing my lips.
I heard murmurs from the people and I couldn't help rolling my eyes.
I suspected the judgment coming from these new people was as a result of seeing that I was mated to the twins.
“What do you think they'll do when they find out I'm actually mated to three alpha wolves?”
“Probably shut the fuck up because none of this is your business!” Ares screamed loud enough for the entire room to hear, well, the entire pack considering our sensitive hearing.
The effect was immediate. Everyone focused on their food and made better use of their eyes for the first time since I stepped feet outside of the cocoon of Axel’s glass house.
I remembered the first time I came here and received this same type of treatment and here we were again.
“Thank you baby,”
“I apologize for their… attitude. We'd kept everyone in the dark about your true identity and what's wrong because we didn't know if some of these new wolves were spies or not,” Ares explained as he fed me from his plate.
If didn't show them what was happening between us, I mean, after all that fucking we did earlier, nothing else would.
I relaxed on Axel's chest, looking forward to the Luna ceremony, hoping it'd settle the chaos that was brewing under all of the murmurs but then I noticed something.
A man had something shimmering right above his head. Strange.
He was tall, his long legs unable to stay under the table, hence he stretched them outside. The freckles on his face looked weird on his panicked face and I wished he'd sit still so I could figure out what was happening. New powers were quite unnerving.
He was shoveling hot porridge in his mouth as if he was in a hurry.
I stood up and walked closer to the pack member, my eyes intent on the shimmering atop his head.
“Hey Mama, what's wrong?” Ares asked as Axel stood up as well, following my tentative thoughts.
The entire pack watched me with bated breaths as I got to the man.
“Sorry, there's a bit of… something on your head,” I said, and the man's wide saucers' eyes made me realize I wasn't imagining it.
I reached for it, and it gradually solidified, a look of shock on everyone's face.
It was a shell.
As tiny as it was, everyone who knew the tiniest bit of supernatural technology knew what it was, a siren's version of a mobile phone.
“He's a spy,” I whispered and the guy took to his heels; well, tried to because there were nearly three thousand werewolves in that open space and he very well couldn't fly.
