As Jeremy watched the two leave, he placed the final chess piece on the board. Looked like Alex had won.

"My skills are inferior." he chuckled. Jeremy stood up, stretching. "It's getting late. Alex, Kaitlyn, you both should get some rest."

Without lingering, he headed upstairs to his room.

The moment he closed the door, his expression changed, and the smile vanished.

He walked over to his desk and dialed a number.

The call was answered almost immediately.

Jeremy asked, "What happened? Did you hear clearly? What did my father give Harper?"

She had left with a stack of documents. Were those documents related to the automotive AI research?

After Alvina's death, her research had mysteriously disappeared.

Jeremy's contact responded quickly, "Mr. Holden Lavien indeed gave her the documents Alvina had hidden. He also mentioned a man named Manuel Bailey, who was the real leader of Alvina's research team."

Jeremy's breathing became heavy, struggling to catch his breath.

He had been searching for so many years.

And now, the documents were in Holden's hands, and he had given them to Harper.

The Lavien family would never let go of something in their possession, especially something related to automotive AI.

Alvina had made groundbreaking statements back then.

If Holden had revealed the documents earlier, the Lavien family would have already been at the forefront of the industry.

"Get those documents back. No matter what, Caden and Harper cannot have them."

Jeremy's voice was low and strained. "And find Manuel immediately, no matter the cost. Even if you have to kidnap him."

"Understood, Mr. Lavien."

Jeremy hung up, his eyes bloodshot.

He was thrilled.

After all these years, he had finally found the documents. Once he had them, his project would make significant progress.

Meanwhile, Caden and Harper were already in the car, driving away.

Caden's car pulled up in front of Harper's apartment building.

As they got out, Harper handed the documents to Caden.

"Make a backup and then deliver them to the research lab."

On the way back, she had already told Caden everything Holden had said.

Caden smiled, his eyes lighting up. "You should trust me to handle it."

He gently squeezed her hand.

Harper paused, feeling Caden's hand on her chin, his touch tender and affectionate.

"Harper, before you go upstairs, how about a kiss?"

He wanted to kiss Harper every moment now.

Using a playful tone, he said, "If my girlfriend could grant me a kiss, I'd be so happy and I'd even smile in my sleep."

His voice was soft, like a cool summer night breeze.

Harper laughed lightly.

She took his hand and kissed his palm, then playfully pressed it against his face. "Is that good enough?"

Caden sighed dramatically, feigning disappointment. "What can I do? Your love is so stingy."

"Go on; stop messing around," Harper said, exasperated, tapping the car window to signal him to leave.

She stood there, watching as he reversed the car and slowly drove away.

Just as she was about to head upstairs, she heard a loud crash.

The sound came from not far away, like a car flipping over.

Harper's body trembled.

She steadied herself against the wall, inching her way out of the apartment step by step.

Caden would be fine. He had to be fine.

Harper reassured herself, forcing a smile.

But as she reached the street, she saw flames shooting into the sky.

The overturned car was unmistakably Caden's sports car.

Harper fumbled for her phone, dialing 911, then sprinted towards the wreck.

By then, Caden's black-suited bodyguards had already surrounded the car.

The car's windows were shattered, glass shards embedded in his arm, and a deep gash on his forehead was bleeding profusely.

Harper's throat tightened, and she tried to rush in, but the bodyguards held her back.

"Ms. Orsini, please stay back." Another bodyguard was already lifting Caden out and placing him in another car.

Harper shouted, "I'm coming too."

As the bodyguard closed the car door, Harper's hand stopped it, her voice trembling. "Take me with you."

The bodyguard didn't argue, knowing she was Caden's girlfriend, and allowed her to get in.

Harper sat beside Caden, looking down at him.

He seemed unconscious, his usually smiling eyes closed, his handsome face covered in blood.

And in his arms, he still clutched the documents she had given him.

Harper's gaze fixed on the papers, her fists clenching.

It was because of these documents, wasn't it?

She hadn't expected that as soon as she got the documents, someone would make a move.

Holden had handed her the documents less than an hour ago, and now Caden had been in an accident.

Who could have done this? Who had such quick access to information?

Only a few people had attended the family dinner at the Lavien Mansion, including Holden, Alex, Jeremy and Kaitlyn.

Holden couldn't be the culprit; otherwise, he wouldn't have given her the documents.

Alex and Kaitlyn were unlikely suspects too.

She bit her lip, Jeremy's deceitful face flashing in her mind.

It had to be Jeremy!

Harper's eyes turned cold as she tightly held Caden's icy hand, trying to give him some warmth.

The car sped towards Serenity Health Center, where Frank worked.

She had already contacted Frank on the way, so as soon as they arrived, medical staff were ready to assist.

She followed the rushing medical team to the emergency room, stopping in the hallway outside.

Anxiety washed over her as she pressed her temples.

She looked down at her palm, still stained with Caden's dried blood, and felt a surge of hatred.

"Ms. Orsini." Caden's assistant approached, his face grim.

He looked at Harper and spoke slowly, "The individual who attempted to target Mr. Elikin this time likely failed to conduct thorough research. Unaware that Mr. Elikin was accompanied by bodyguards, they were unable to seize the documents."

He paused, then continued, "When we arrived, the attacker was trying to steal the documents from Mr. Elikin. He didn't escape and is now in our custody."

"What do you want us to do with him?"
