No Wife, No Life Chapter 275
Originally, the Wright Group was supposed to go head-to-head with FusionX Company and Harper. Now, they were actually going to collaborate? That meant all Emily's expectations would be for nothing.
And Mark hadn't contacted her recently to assign her any new tasks, which made her anxious.
The higher Harper's status rose, the more uneasy Emily felt.
Thinking of this, Emily quickly called Mark. The phone was answered almost immediately, and the voice on the other end was indifferent.
"What's up?"
"Mark, you said you needed my help. Now that I'm in the Lavien Group, what do you need me to do?"
She hadn't forgotten. Mark had sought her cooperation to bring down the Lavien Group and target FusionX Company.
Her mind was consumed with these thoughts, leaving no room for rationality.
Mark simply gave her the number of a private dining room and told her to wait there; he would arrive shortly.
With a clear answer, Emily finally felt a bit relieved.
As long as Mark still needed her, it meant she was still useful.
Mark had reserved a private restaurant. This place was known for its privacy, often chosen for business meetings if not the Sapphire Dining Room.
By the time Mark arrived, Emily had been waiting for quite a while.
She looked anxious, with several cigarette butts at her feet.
Mark frowned at the scene. Had she picked up smoking?
Mark paused, his gaze briefly landing on her before he looked away.
The room reeked of smoke, and knowing Kaitlyn disliked the smell, he turned on the air purifier and opened the windows.
Before Mark could speak, Emily stubbed out her cigarette and hurriedly said, "You told me you needed me to do a lot of things, to help you steal documents, to bring down the Lavien Group, to help you gain status. But it's been so long, and you haven't given me any instructions. Tell me, what do you need me to do next?"
"In such a hurry?" Mark's voice was indifferent as he slowly poured a cup of tea, swirling it around.
He was now with Kaitlyn.
Officially, they were siblings, but in reality, Mark was just someone Jeremy had taken in. He wasn't even a member of the Lavien family, as they had no blood relation.
Now that he and Kaitlyn were finally together, his mind was somewhat scattered. He spent his days accompanying Kaitlyn, forgetting about his main tasks.
He almost forgot he was Jeremy's pawn. Jeremy wanted him to help Kaitlyn reclaim the Lavien Group, for her to inherit it.
"I'm not in a hurry, I'm worried." Emily's emotions were intense. "You told me this. Of course, I want to help you take over the Lavien Group and get everything I want."
In truth, Emily already had plenty.
The Orsini Group hadn't gone bankrupt, she was still Brad's beloved daughter, and her mother had married a doctor.
If Emily wanted to get married, there were many good families in their circle. If she didn't, she had the properties, assets, and stocks Brad had left her, enough for a lifetime of luxury.
But she couldn't see any of that. She just couldn't stand Harper being better than her. The higher Harper's status, the more Emily wanted to surpass her, to prove herself, to not lose to Harper.
It was all because of her greed.
Her greed had forced Alex and Harper to divorce; Her greed had nearly bankrupted the Orsini Group. Now, in this state, if she could just be content, it would be fine. But she wasn't.
Without Alex, she hoped someone would lead her down a new path, to regain a high status, so she could tell herself that everything she had done was not in vain.
Mark looked at her deeply, about to speak, when the door suddenly burst open.
Emily was startled, instinctively standing up.
The next second, she saw Kaitlyn standing at the door, and her face fell instantly.
She still remembered how Kaitlyn had humiliated her back then.
Kaitlyn walked in slowly, her high heels clicking, her brows furrowing as she saw Emily, a mocking smile on her lips.
"You rushed over just to see her?" She turned to Mark.
Kaitlyn grabbed his collar, looking every bit the haughty rich girl. "I won't allow you to be with such a shameless woman. She doesn't deserve to be associated with our Lavien family. Make her leave."
Though she had little connection with the Orsini family now, she had never thought highly of someone like Emily.
Mark sighed, holding Kaitlyn's hand, then signaled Emily to leave with his eyes.
Emily, provoked by Kaitlyn's words, looked dejected and pointed at Mark. "You think Mark is a good person?"
"You call me shameless for approaching the Lavien family, but isn't your family just as messy? Weren't you close with Alex? Do you know he's planning to go against Alex?"
"He and Jeremy want you to fight for the Lavien Group, to take it from Alex."
"How lucky you are, with your father and your boyfriend working hard for you. You just have to be the carefree rich girl. So why judge me?"
"You talk about being righteous, but are you really clean? I'm not a good person, but are you any better?"
"Do you even know what Mark is doing now? Do you dare to ask?"
Emily's emotions grew more intense as she spoke, almost shouting, her face flushing with anger.
Kaitlyn was stunned, her eyes flickering, clearly taken aback by Emily's words.
She looked at Mark, waiting for his explanation.
Mark hadn't expected Emily to go crazy and spill everything in such a situation.
His glared at Emily.
Emily, frightened by his gaze, shivered and quickly fled the room.
With Emily gone, the door closed again.
But the room was deathly silent.
Kaitlyn stared at Mark, her voice cold. "Mark, tell me, is what Emily said true?"
Of course, she cared about the truth.
If what Emily had said was true, she would be genuinely hurt.
She knew how much Alex had done for the Lavien Group, and for years, he had always pampered her. Whatever she wanted, Alex would unconditionally agree.
And her father? She knew he had done many unsavory things and it was always Alex who cleaned up his messes.
Alex had been very good to them.
Kaitlyn could say Alex wasn't a good lover, husband, or boss, but she couldn't say he wasn't a good brother.
So, she cared about her father, Alex, and Mark.
If the three of them became enemies, Kaitlyn would be heartbroken.
Her voice was icy. "Mark, answer me. Is it true?"
