No Wife, No Life Chapter 117
After getting the news, Colin and Duke rushed to that site.
It was a place far from the city, remote and poorly managed, filled with migrant workers.
Bruce had been hiding here all along; no wonder they couldn't find him.
Following the location Brad sent, Colin and Duke quickly found the house where Bruce was staying.
It was a rundown house, with a part of the roof caved in.
The door was locked from the inside, but Duke kicked it hard, and the wooden door flew open.
Colin and Duke barged in, heading straight for the inner room.
The room was dark, with only a dim incandescent bulb hanging from the ceiling.
A dirty sofa was on the left side, and the coffee table was cluttered with empty instant noodle cups, cookie wrappers, and takeout boxes.
"Bruce!"
Colin had just shouted when they heard the sound of a window opening inside.
Duke rushed in and grabbed Bruce by the leg. "Stop!"
Duke yanked him back inside and pinned him to the ground.
Sure enough, it was Bruce hiding here.
"Let me go, I don't want to take the test for someone else." Bruce struggled and shouted angrily.
He knew exactly what they wanted. If it weren't for the test, he wouldn't have hidden here.
If he stayed at home, they would ruin him sooner or later.
For so long, he had dreamed of getting into college and getting rid of that home.
But they wanted to destroy his dream just as it was about to come true, to ruin him.
He was unwilling; he clearly had a better future ahead.
But no matter what he did or where he hid, they could always find him.
Colin walked over with a sinister smile.
"Bruce, haven't I treated you well all these years? And you run away at a time like this? Do you know I've already negotiated the price for the test, tens of thousands of dollars?"
"All you have to do is take the test once, and our family will get the money. Why you refuse? You ungrateful brat. You've been living off us for years, and you can't even manage to do this minor thing for us?"
"Have you ever thought about me? If I take the SAT for someone else, it will ruin my future." Bruce's voice was heavy as he tried to reason with his father.
"You're overthinking it. This time, it's not just about the test. You're going abroad." Duke couldn't help but sneer.
Bruce was stunned for a moment, then quickly understood.
They were planning to send him across the border for illegal activities.
"No, I won't go. This is illegal."
Bruce struggled even more, desperately trying to break free.
Colin ignored him and took out a rope to tie his hands and feet securely.
"Why? Why are you doing this to me?" Finally, Bruce couldn't help but shout.
He just couldn't understand why he was treated so differently, even though he was also Colin's son.
If favoritism could have explained it in the past, what was the reason now?
They were going to sell him abroad?
The thought made his heart feel ice-cold.
"Do you want to know?" Colin looked at him with cold, indifferent eyes. "Fine, I'll tell you when you're dead over there."
Bruce was utterly hopeless. He knew he would never get the answer he wanted.
His eyes grew colder, with a hint of defiance.
Even now, he wouldn't beg them.
If he had to sum it up, this was his fate.
From birth, his life had been miserable. Even his own father and brother treated him this way. Who could he blame?
"Take him away." Colin and Duke dragged Bruce outside.
Just then, a figure appeared in front of them.
She was tall, wearing a red dress, completely out of place in such a setting.
Her eyes were cold and sharp, fixed on the father and son.
Under the light, Harper looked stunningly beautiful, almost blinding.
For a moment, Colin felt a bit panicked, an unreal sense of fear.
"Miss, you're in the wrong place." He laughed nervously.
Harper gave a cold smile and signaled with her eyes. The bodyguards behind her moved in, quickly subduing Colin and Duke.
Colin trembled all over but still shouted angrily, "Who are you people? I'm disciplining my son. It is none of your business. I'll call the police and have you all arrested."
Calling the police—how laughable that he would mention that now.
Harper looked at them coldly, her presence imposing. "Disciplining your son? How ridiculous. When did my brother become your son?"
By now, she knew the whole story.
She crossed her arms, her gaze sharp, her voice icy. "My brother was just left in your care for a few years, and you really thought you were his father? Someone like you, trash, doesn't deserve it at all!"
As soon as she finished speaking, Bruce's body trembled slightly.
Of course, he recognized Harper. She was his senior at school, practically an elite. How could she be related to someone like him, living at the bottom?
How could she be his sister?
He didn't speak, just kept his eyes on Harper.
The room was deathly silent.
Finally, Colin stopped struggling, his mouth agape.
He muttered, "Impossible. How can you be his sister? When the Orsini family gave Bruce to me, they said he was the child of two bastards,. He had no family, and could be trampled on."
Before he could finish, a bodyguard stepped on his mouth, silencing him.
Harper watched everything coldly, waiting for him to calm down before speaking slowly. "Tell me, what did Brad say to you?"
By now, the bodyguards had taken out a recorder and a camera, all aimed at Colin.
Colin was truly scared, trembling all over.
"That was many years ago. Mr. Orsini found me at a gambling table, threw a baby at me, and told me to raise him."
"He said the child was someone else's illegitimate son and that I must ruin him. He would give me money every month for raising the child. I was blinded by money and took it, so I raised him."
He kept talking. Over the years, they had tried to lead Bruce into gambling, but it was their own son Duke who got addicted.
They tried to get him hooked on video games, but it was Duke who couldn't break free.
They had tried them best to lead him astray, but Bruce had never been swayed, always striving to be his best.
This left them feeling defeated.
"You really are audacious!" Harper said coldly.
