No Wife, No Life Chapter 84
Caden saw right through everything.
The reason he made such a request was clearly to spite Alex.
Others might not notice Alex's feelings for Harper, but he did.
Men understood men better.
Alex's feelings for Harper were definitely not as indifferent as Harper claimed.
Caden's eyes narrowed, and he looked at Alex with a challenging gaze, as if he had just noticed him, and said in mock surprise, "Mr. Lavien, did you forget something?"
Alex's eyes darkened, and he glanced at Harper with a deep look but said nothing.
Caden, however, ignored him and continued relentlessly, "Harper, you haven't agreed to my request yet. I've always wanted a pen carved by your own hands."
The air grew tense.
The atmosphere was unusually eerie.
Only Caden seemed oblivious, still smiling faintly.
Alex's gaze was fixed on Harper, seemingly waiting for her response.
Harper felt the intense stares from both men.
She said softly, "If you like it, of course, it's no problem. But it might take some time."
Customizing a pen and hand-carving the patterns naturally required time.
Caden tightened his grip on her hand, happily saying, "As long as I can get a gift made by you, I can wait as long as it takes."
His words sounded more like a declaration of love.
As long as he could win her heart, he could wait a lifetime.
Finally, Alex strode in, grabbed his phone from the table, and left in a fit of exasperation.
He walked into the elevator, leaning against the metal wall, breathing heavily.
Several shareholders, who had been waiting for him, entered the elevator at that moment, surrounding him and continuing to discuss the potential profits from collaborating with Luminary Innovations Inc.
"I'm not in the mood to discuss this right now." Alex's voice was cold.
The shareholders were intimidated by his demeanor and fell silent.
Back in the conference room, Harper still sat there, her tone cold, "You saw him outside the door, didn't you? You did it on purpose."
By now, she had realized that Caden had been putting on a show for Alex.
"Why not do it on purpose?"
His smile was somewhat cold, "I feel a profound sense of injustice when I see him effortlessly acquire what I have long yearned for. I want to show him that divorcing you was the biggest mistake of his life. So, if he regrets it, he deserves it."
His behavior was quite childish.
Harper almost laughed.
She knew Alex well; he wouldn't be hurt by such things.
When Harper did those things, Alex didn't feel moved; he just said she was being irrational and wasting her efforts.
As a company executive, the most important qualities were being shrewd and rational.
Harper said, "You don't understand. He won't care about these trivial matters. He'll just think I am childish and ridiculous."
Such childish games wouldn't matter to Alex.
Caden's face showed a meaningful smile.
It was better if she thought that way; it would keep her from going back to Alex.
"I'm going to the office to get something. Wait for me in the garage."
Without waiting for his response, Harper got up and left.
When Harper returned to her office, she found it empty except for the safe where she kept her files.
All her personal belongings were gone, even her desk and chair.
"Where are my things?" Harper demanded, stepping out of her office and addressing an employee nearby.
The employee blinked nervously at someone behind Harper but said nothing.
Harper turned and saw Emily approaching from around the corner.
She immediately understood the employee's hint and walked straight to Emily, raising an eyebrow as she questioned, "Where are my things?"
"I threw them out for you," Emily replied smugly.
Previously, Alex had told Harper to resign voluntarily, but now she was back.
Emily looked at Harper with a triumphant smile, her eyes full of mockery.
Finally, she had gotten her wish.
Harper had been suspended.
Who would have thought Harper would have a day like this?
Emily's heart was filled with the satisfaction of revenge.
She finally saw Harper in a miserable state.
But Harper looked at her indifferently.
Their eyes met, and Harper chuckled, then took out her phone and dialed Alex's number.
He answered quickly, his voice still cold, "What is it?"
"I told you before to change the fingerprint lock for me, but you didn't."
"What happened?" Alex asked, sensing the seriousness in her tone.
"Emily threw out all my office stuff," Harper said nonchalantly.
"Mr. Lavien, please inform your Emily that I've only been suspended, not kicked out of the company. Even if I were to be fired, it's not her place to give orders. She's not qualified."
Her words made Emily's face change instantly.
She hadn't been fired!
After all that had happened, why hadn't she been fired?
It was so unfair!
Emily had been forced out of the company, but Harper hadn't!
Alex's voice on the other end grew even colder, "I'll have someone replace your things and make sure she gives you an explanation."
The employees around them clearly heard Alex's words and started snickering.
They were mocking Emily for overestimating herself.
When Emily did those things, they had predicted this outcome.
Even if Emily was Alex's lover, no matter how good their relationship was, Alex knew Harper's value to the company.
Harper had brought considerably more value to the company compared to Emily.
Even Alex wouldn't dare touch her things, let alone anyone else.
Emily stood there, her face quickly turning pale.
The smugness and mockery in her eyes turned into disbelief and fear.
No matter what, Harper's words still carried weight in the company.
The office fell silent.
Harper ignored Emily, turned, and walked away without giving her another glance.
In the garage, she saw Caden's car waiting for her.
She walked over, opened the door, and got in.
"You really can handle things," Caden said with a cheeky smile.
He must have known what had just happened.
"Are you really that unapproachable, like you're covered in thorns." he asked.
"Yeah. Are you scared? If you are, stay away from me," Harper replied, leaning back in her seat and looking lazily out the window.
"Why would I be scared? I like flowers with thorns, such as roses." Caden said, grinning.
