No Wife, No Life Chapter 149
Harper's gaze stayed calm, her voice steady. "This is my business; it has nothing to do with you."
She felt weak and dizzy, barely able to stand.
She cracked the door open slightly, trying to catch what was being said outside.
Caden went abroad for a collaborative project at the financial summit, but as soon as he arrived, he probably heard about her situation and immediately took a flight back.
The business partners he was supposed to meet probably didn't see him, and Caden missed the appointment.
She knew that people abroad valued commitments highly. No matter what happened, you had to keep your promises.
Caden breaking his promise this time was a big deal, making future cooperation nearly impossible.
It was clear that between her and his interests, he chose her.
So she knew exactly how much he had sacrificed.
She heard Caden trying to explain his project to the other party, without mentioning anything about her.
Suddenly, she pushed open the hospital room door.
The conversation stopped abruptly. Caden turned around and saw her standing barefoot at the door, her face pale.
A surge of anger rose in his heart, but seeing Harper so weak, he forced it down.
Without a word, he quickly walked over, picked her up, and carried her back to the bed.
"Harper, you can't catch a cold right now. If you need me, just call out; I can hear you."
His tone was reproachful, but filled with concern, making it hard to be angry with him.
Harper looked at him and spoke softly, "The person you're supposed to meet is Henry Brown, right?"
Caden was momentarily stunned.
Henry said, "Give me the phone; I'll talk to him."
Henry was an old partner of HoloSphere Technologies, having collaborated multiple times. Harper had significant influence with Henry.
Caden frowned, not intending to give her the phone.
"Harper, don't make a fuss."
He didn't want her to handle this, especially in her current state.
Harper ignored him, turning to Travis with a cold tone, "Sorry, I have some business to discuss. Mr. Reed, please leave."
Her cold attitude made Travis feel a pang in his chest, but he obediently left.
He was surprised. In his memory, the Lavien Group had never worked with Henry, and Harper shouldn't know him.
The room was now just Caden and Harper.
"Give me the phone, Caden. Even if you don't say it, I know how much you've lost for me. You care about me more than those interests, so why can't I help you? You said it yourself, I'm your partner; we share everything, right?"
She made a valid point.
Caden was silent for a moment but eventually handed her the phone.
Harper dialed Henry's number.
Henry initially didn't want to take Caden's call but decided to answer out of courtesy.
Hearing Harper's voice, he was momentarily shocked. "Harper! Oh my God, is it really you? Why are you calling me from Mr. Elikin's phone?"
Henry's voice was filled with surprise and joy.
"What's going on, Harper? You sound weak, are you sick?"
Henry's demeanor towards Caden was icy, yet towards Harper, he was exceedingly warm and enthusiastic.
It wasn't just because Harper possessed strikingly radiant looks, but also because Harper's company, HoloSphere Technologies, had earned Henry substantial profits.
In fact, any project undertaken in collaboration with Harper promised immense returns, making Henry held Harper in such high regard.
"I'm sick, Henry."
Hearing this, Henry immediately panicked. "Is it serious? Do you need me to send a doctor?"
Harper didn't address that, instead, she said, "Caden is my fiancé. He postponed meeting you because of me. Henry, are you upset about this?"
She was direct, but often the more direct, the more sincere.
Henry was stunned for a moment.
What was going on?
No one told him Harper was Caden's fiancée.
If Caden had mentioned it, Henry wouldn't have been offended.
Finally, Henry laughed awkwardly. "Harper, I didn't know. Of course, if it's you, our cooperation can be postponed. Your well-being is the priority."
He paused, then continued, "Since Mr. Elikin is your fiancé, there shouldn't be any problem."
"When you're better, you and Mr. Elikin can come together. It's been a while since I've seen you."
Henry politely extended an invitation.
Harper nodded. "Okay."
Previously, Caden had been troubled by Henry's difficulties, but now, with just one call from Harper, it was easily resolved.
When Harper handed the phone back, Caden sighed softly. "Harper, you're making me look useless."
Harper smiled, gently touching his cheek, her voice filled with affection. "How could you be? You're amazing. If it weren't for me, you would have met Henry, shown him how great your project is, and become his close friend through this collaboration. I just wanted to help you."
Caden nodded lightly.
Her simple reassurance calmed him significantly.
After all this, the pain in Harper's abdomen returned.
Harper couldn't help but frown slightly.
Caden asked, "Does it hurt?"
Harper shook her head slightly, not wanting him to see her in pain. "I just need to rest."
Caden gently tucked her in, watching her close her eyes.
At that moment, Caden received a message from his assistant.
[Alex has been at Serenity Health Center.]
He had been at Serenity Health Center all along.
He really was persistent, staying there the whole time.
Caden's eyes darkened with coldness and disdain.
His gaze fell on Harper's face. She seemed to be asleep.
He quietly walked out and knocked on Alex's door.
When Alex saw Caden, he didn't seem surprised.
He had expected Caden to come.
Caden's gaze was incandescent with fury as he scrutinized Alex.
"Harper's situation, it's your doing." As soon as he finished speaking, he threw a punch.
From the start, he had no intention of giving Alex a chance to explain.
Alex dodged, his voice cold. "Caden, do you have proof?"
His gaze was sharp, brimming with animosity.
"What more proof do you need? You tricked me abroad with a contract, then harmed her to keep her from attending the financial summit, didn't you?"
"Financial summit?" Alex's lips curled into a cold smile.
He countered, pinning Caden to the ground with his elbow. "Caden, you think I care about the financial summit? What I care about is betrayal."
