No Wife, No Life Chapter 213
Alex was on edge. The constant rejections from Harper had pushed him to his limit, and he couldn't handle any more provocations. His anger was like a wildfire, ready to ignite at any moment.
"Harper and I also need to talk privately," Manuel smirked slightly.
Alex snapped. He grabbed Manuel by the collar.
They were about the same height and build. Manuel didn't back down, pressing his arm against Alex's neck. They stared at each other like two lions, eyes locked, anger flaring.
"You better stay out of my business with Harper," Alex growled.
Seeing Harper walk away, Alex threatened Manuel, then released his grip and gave him a hard shove before chasing after Harper and grabbing her wrist.
"Harper, wait. We need to talk. I have something really important to tell you," he said, his voice trembling with desperation.
Harper had known Alex for a long time. He had always been proud, like a star in the sky, never this humble and desperate.
But he had to speak. He needed to tell Harper that he understood her love now, that he had truly repented, and he wanted to be with her again. He hoped Harper would give him another chance.
Harper's body tensed for a moment before quickly returning to normal. She took a few steps back and said calmly, "I think there's nothing more to discuss between us. I'm not in the mood to deal with anyone right now; I'm exhausted and just want to go home and sleep."
It was an excuse, but she really didn't want to face Alex or get entangled with him any further.
As expected, Alex slowly let go of her hand.
Manuel walked over and said, "I'll take you home."
Harper said, "No need, Mr. Garcia will take me home."
With Stephen around, Harper would be safe.
"Get some rest," Manuel said.
Just as he finished speaking, a car pulled up by the curb.
Manuel thought it was Stephen's car and stepped aside.
Alex remained motionless, his gaze locked on Harper, brimming with sorrow.
Harper walked over, opened the car door, and was about to get in when someone forcefully pulled her inside.
She was about to struggle when she heard someone say, "Drive!"
She looked closely and saw it was Mason.
Everyone was stunned for a moment.
Stephen was on the verge of pursuing them, but he received a text from Harper, assuring him that she was fine and instructing him to follow them. She would take care of it.
The whole way, Harper didn't say a word. Since she didn't speak, Mason didn't dare to either.
It wasn't until the car stopped steadily in front of Harper's apartment building that she spoke calmly, "Have you sorted things out? Get out. Let's find a place to talk,"
Mason obediently followed her out of the car.
They walked to a nearby café and sat down.
They ordered two coffees. For a while, neither of them spoke.
Mason just looked at Harper, his eyes clear and soft.
"Have you figured it out?" Harper asked again.
Mason didn't respond.
He hadn't figured it out. The more he thought about it, the less he understood.
These days, his mind was filled with Harper. He couldn't stop thinking about her for even a moment.
Kyle had tried everything to make him give up, even setting him up on dates with dozens of wealthy young women in Majestic City, but none of them caught his eye.
When he heard Harper was in trouble, he rushed back immediately.
Upon finally seeing Harper, he noticed that although her face was pale and her hair disheveled, she was still breathtakingly beautiful in his eyes.
For a moment, Mason was mesmerized.
Just one look and she was already in his heart.
Harper looked at Mason and sighed softly.
"Earlier, I took a call from your father. He asked me to let you go."
But she was at a loss. What did this have to do with her? From the beginning, Harper had firmly rejected him. It was Mason who insisted on pursuing her.
Love wasn't something anyone could control.
Looking at the dazed Mason in front of her, Harper was silent for a while before speaking slowly, "Mason, I need to ask you a few questions. You can't lie. You have to answer honestly."
Mason nodded repeatedly, "Ask away. I promise everything I say to you will be true."
"Is your name really Mason Cruz?"
"Yes, my name is Mason Cruz. I have documents to prove it."
Harper's gaze was fixed on him. After a moment, she asked again, "Is your father Kyle Cruz, the richest man in Majestic City?"
"Yes!" His voice was weak, his expression dejected.
For the first time, he felt his identity was useless.
"You said you liked me, right?"
"Yes, I like you!"
When he answered, his eyes lit up, a stark contrast to his earlier dejection.
Harper could see that his feelings for her were genuine.
She smiled, took a sip of her coffee, and suddenly asked, "Do you know about my past?"
Mason's eyes darted away and didn't dare to answer. Harper spoke frankly, "I was married. My ex-husband is Alex Lavien. I even had a miscarriage with his child."
She wanted to tell him she wasn't perfect. She had a past she wasn't proud of.
His eyes dimmed, filled with pain for her. His gaze was sincere, making Harper feel a moment of confusion.
He asked, "Does it hurt?"
He actually asked if it hurt.
Other men might mind her past, but he cared about whether she was in pain.
Harper felt a pang of sadness.
Did it hurt? Of course, it hurt. She would be heartbroken when she divorced, sorrowful upon seeing Alex, and devastated by the loss of her child. So she lowered her eyes and didn't answer.
Suddenly, Mason said loudly, "I don't care! I only care if you're sad!"
He wiped his face, using the opportunity to brush away his tears, "I don't care what your relationship with Alex was. I just like you."
Harper quietly looked at the tormented Mason in front of her.
His feelings were so pure, just like hers once were.
"I like you and won't mind your past. I just like you. Whether you've been married, divorced, or had relationships, I don't care."
Mason touched his chest, firmly declaring, "I can't help it. I just like you, no matter what."
Harper paused for a moment.
If she had met Mason before marrying Alex, she might have been moved by his sincerity.
But now she had Caden. Her heart was entirely devoted to Caden, leaving no space for anyone else.
"I'm sorry, I can't accept your feelings." Harper shook her head slightly.
"Why?" His face turned red instantly.
"I have someone I love." Harper looked at him, affirming each word, "Mason, my lover is Caden Elikin. Do you understand?"
