No Wife, No Life Chapter 61

The next morning, Harper was the first one to show up at Summit Heights High.

It was eight o'clock, and she was strolling across the schoolyard.

Summit Heights High was the top school in Majestic City, only letting in the best and brightest. She used to be one of them.

The morning sun was rising slowly, bright and full of hope.

She remembered a pine tree in the northwest corner of the yard, supposedly planted by the old principal when the school was founded, over a hundred years ago.

Following her memories, she looked over and saw a teenager sitting under the tree, lost in a book.

The early sunlight filtered through the leaves, casting a dappled glow on him.

The guy's profile was strikingly handsome, but he had a cold, distant look, making him seem unapproachable.

For some reason, she felt a sense of familiarity.

She quietly walked over, curious about what he was reading.

Maybe her footsteps startled him because he looked up at her.

When their eyes met, both were momentarily surprised.

Where had she seen those eyes before?

Harper smiled gently, about to say something, but was interrupted.

"Harper, let me introduce you to our school's top student, Bruce Wilson."

She turned to see David.

"Bruce, this is Harper Orsini, an alumna."

Bruce nodded, "Ms. Orsini, nice to meet you."

For some reason, Harper felt a strong connection with Bruce and smiled, "Nice to meet you. Since you're such a top student and my junior, how about this: if you score in the top three in the city on the SAT, I'll cover all your college expenses for four years, including any future grad studies, and I can even help you get a job at the Lavien Group."

Getting a job at the Lavien Group was a dream for many.

David enthusiastically agreed, beaming at Bruce, "Hurry up and thank Harper."

Bruce didn't show much excitement, just nodded slightly and said in a deep voice, "Thank you, Ms. Orsini."

There was something familiar about the way he lowered his eyes.

"Harper, it's almost time. Shall we go?"

Harper checked the time; it was nearly nine o'clock.

She nodded lightly and walked back to the auditorium with them.

Since Alex had come personally, it was a rare opportunity, so David had gathered all four grades of students together.

Alex didn't waste any time and started speaking confidently.

An hour passed quickly.

Alex had other engagements and didn't linger, heading straight back to the company.

David knew he was busy and didn't try to keep him, seeing him off with the vice principal, the dean, and other school leaders.

Bruce, as an outstanding student representative, was also part of the send-off group.

Harper walked alongside him, kindly asking about his studies and life.

He was reserved and didn't say much.

At the school gate, Harper took out a business card from her pocket and handed it to him personally, "This is my card. Feel free to contact me if you need anything."

Bruce took the card, holding it tightly, but didn't say much.

Looking at Harper, he felt a warmth in his heart. He thought, how nice it would be to have an older sister like her. But he also understood that those who help themselves are helped by heaven. After all, his father and brother were still scheming against him, so why should he rely too much on others?

His only goal now was to study hard, mess up their plans, and ace the SAT to get away from his family.

After saying goodbye to Bruce, Harper caught up with Alex. Just as they stepped out, Emily popped up out of nowhere.

"Alex."

Alex frowned slightly, asking coolly, "What are you doing here?"

Emily pouted and smiled, "I heard you were giving a speech here. Since I graduated from this school, I wanted to come and take a look."

To prove her identity, she looked at David and asked, "Mr. Walker, do you remember me?"

David looked at her, clearly drawing a blank.

"I'm Emily Orsini."

David still looked puzzled. Who was Emily? He had never heard of her.

Emily pointed to the school's information board on the wall, "I was in that class."

She was referring to the star class.

The star class admitted all art students. As long as their professional scores were good, the required academic scores were not high, and one could even get in by paying.

David smiled awkwardly, not saying much.

There were too many students at the school, and Emily wasn't as outstanding as Harper and Alex. How could he remember every single one?

Alex's car was parked at the entrance, and he got in.

Since they were heading back to the company, Harper and Emily got in as well.

Harper leaned against the window, eyes half-closed.

"Alex, Mr. Walker didn't remember me because my grades weren't as good as yours and Harper's."

For some reason, she suddenly said this.

"Harper, do you have a good relationship with that high school student? Or are you suddenly into young handsome guys?"

She paused, her mouth twitching, and continued, "If that's the case, Harper, you have great taste. That young guy is really good-looking and quite a match for you. Besides, handsome guys his age are simple-minded and pure, much better than that playboy Caden."

The atmosphere grew tense.

Harper ignored her, still with her eyes half-closed.

Emily talked for a while, realizing no one was responding, making her feel like she was talking to herself.

The car's atmosphere was extremely awkward.

"Why aren't you responding to me?"

Emily still didn't relent, persistently asking.

Harper was genuinely annoyed.

Keeping silent meant she didn't want to talk. Didn't Emily have any self-awareness?

Well, her mother probably didn't teach her such manners and etiquette.

"Didn't you hear me?"

Harper couldn't hold back any longer, looking at Alex coldly, "If you can't control your lover, don't blame me for being harsh."

Alex also realized the awkwardness but what could he say?

Harper looked at Emily, her words dripping with sarcasm.

"Emily, you should know your place. You're the illegitimate daughter Brad had with another woman, betraying our family. I'm the legitimate daughter of the Orsini family. No matter what, your existence is a disgrace to me. If you had any sense of shame, you'd stay away from me instead of buzzing around like a fly."

"And by the way, that high school student is still a minor. If you understand that, you shouldn't make such slanderous remarks."

She knew exactly why Emily said those things. She just wanted to tell Alex that Harper was never short of men, even interested in high schoolers.

Such scheming deserved to be exposed.

Emily's face turned pale, looking pitifully at Alex.
