"Who else could it be? It's that scatterbrain, Emily," Travis muttered, shaking his head.

He let out a deep sigh, feeling completely at a loss. What was she thinking, signing contracts left and right while still refusing to leave the hospital?

Standing up, he turned to Harper. "Tell Alex this contract can't be signed."

Harper nodded. "Got it, I'll go find him now."

As she stepped out of the office, she almost bumped into someone coming out of the CEO's office.

"Harper, you're here?" The person looked surprised.

Harper squinted and realized it was David Walker, the principal of Summit Heights High.

"Mr. Walker, what brings you here?" she greeted him warmly.

David sighed. "Well, the SATs are just a few months away, and I wanted to ask Alex to come back and give a motivational speech to the students."

Harper nodded, waiting for him to continue.

"But Alex said he's too busy and his schedule is packed tomorrow."

A hint of disappointment flashed in David's eyes. He knew Alex was swamped, but he still hoped he could make an appearance. It would mean a lot to the students.

Seeing it, Harper gave him a reassuring smile and squeezed his hand gently. "Don't worry, Mr. Walker. I'll persuade Mr. Lavien to go."

"That would be wonderful. Thank you, Harper," David's face lit up with joy.

"Harper, you should come with Alex."

"Of course, we'll be there."

After seeing David off, Travis gave Harper an amused look. "Do you really think he'll go? He turned down Majestic City University's invitation to their anniversary celebration just a few days ago."

"I know, but I'll give it a try," Harper smiled, not saying much more.

Her brother Dennis had been sent away by Brad when he was very young. She figured Dennis should be a senior in high school by now. If he happened to be at that school, even if she didn't know him, it felt like a connection.

Travis didn't ask any more questions and shook his head as he walked away.

The door to the CEO's office was slightly ajar. She knocked politely and waited for his permission before stepping inside.

He was sitting in a luxurious high-back chair, exuding an intimidating presence.

"How's your injury?" he asked, glancing at her bandaged left arm.

"Did you change the dressing today? I can help you," his tone was unusually gentle.

Harper felt a pang of sadness. They were already divorced, and his kindness now only made her feel worse.

"No need. Mr. Lavien never did such things before, and there's no need to start now," her tone was cold and distant.

In their five years of marriage, he had never shown much concern for her. She remembered clearly the day she got sick from the rain. He still insisted she attend an important client meeting because the client specifically requested her presence.

Harper went despite being ill and ended up drinking several glasses of wine. She spent seven days in the hospital afterward. The big contract she secured that time was practically earned with her life. And during those seven days, Alex never showed up once.

But yesterday, he had gone to the hospital to see Emily and even postponed the morning meeting for her. So Emily was the one he truly cared about. Emily was his favorite. Harper never was.

Her eyes turned cold, filled with indifference. Perhaps sensing the chill in her gaze, Alex felt a sudden pang of guilt. He hadn't done enough for her over the years. He truly owed her.

She snapped back to reality and placed the contract in front of him, calm and composed.

"Mr. Lavien, there's an issue with this contract. Take a look here."

She read aloud, "In the event of a dispute, the principle of territorial jurisdiction shall apply, and the courts of the respective country shall have jurisdiction."

Alex's brows furrowed, his gaze turning icy. As the CEO, he understood the significance of this clause.

"The other party hid this clause in an inconspicuous corner, making it hard to notice. This small country's political situation has always been unstable. If they use this clause against us, we won't have any recourse. If a dispute arises, we won't be able to recover any of our investment."

Harper's voice was clear and articulate, explaining the hidden risk thoroughly.

"Put it on hold," Alex said sternly.

His gaze deepened as he glanced at the signature on the contract. It was Emily's name. She really dared to sign contracts recklessly!

Harper acknowledged his decision and was about to leave with the document when she suddenly remembered something and turned back.

"Mr. Walker, the principal of Summit Heights High, was here earlier?"

Alex nodded slightly, looking somewhat distracted. Compared to a high school motivational speech, he was obviously more concerned about contracts involving billions of dollars.

"Did you agree to it?"

"My schedule is full," he replied coldly. If it wasn't something he cared about, he was always indifferent.

"I told Mr. Walker you would go," her tone was light, but her expression remained calm. What if he still refused? She didn't know how to respond to David, but she wanted to take a chance.

She looked at him steadily, with hope in her eyes, but also prepared for disappointment. After all, he always centered everything around his own needs.

He met her gaze, seeming to catch something in her eyes. After a moment of contemplation, he spoke in a deep voice, "I got it. Make the arrangements."

"Alright, I'll send you the updated schedule."

She didn't say anything more and turned to leave.

After leaving the CEO's office, Harper called David and informed him that Alex would be there at nine the next morning. David thanked Harper profusely over the phone. Harper responded politely and then ended the call.

When she returned to her office, she was surprised to see someone sitting in her chair. The person had their back to her and was spinning around playfully.

"Love's arrow!" He suddenly turned around and mimicked shooting an arrow at her.

Harper ignored him and walked over to her desk, indicating for him to move.

Caden squinted and smiled, then stood up and made a grand gesture for her to sit. "My Juliet, please take your seat!"

Harper sat down, her eyes fixed on the computer screen as her fingers flew over the keyboard. Her focused expression made her profile look like a work of art.

Caden leaned on the desk, resting his chin on his hands, his eyes staring at her with a lovestruck look. "Ms. Orsini, you look so beautiful when you're working. I could watch you for a hundred years and never get tired."

Harper didn't spare him a glance, her tone cold. "Mr. Elikin, if you have something to say, say it. If not, please leave. I'm busy."

Caden put on a pitiful expression. "Ms. Orsini, you're so mean to me!"

Harper stopped typing and looked at him. "What on earth do you want?"

Caden gave her a flirtatious smile and shamelessly said, "I want Ms. Orsini to give me a kiss. Can you?"
