No Wife, No Life Chapter 197
Slowly, Caden finally understood that Harper wasn't being cold to him; she was seething with anger.
The chill in his heart gradually vanished.
"Harper, are you mad at me?" Caden leaned back in his chair, his tense body finally relaxing.
"Mr. Elikin, you should be more careful next time you go to a restaurant. One of your suits costs her a year's salary; she can't afford to pay for it."
Harper said calmly, "But Mr. Elikin is a good person, gentle and considerate, and of course, you wouldn't make her pay. It wouldn't matter if she bumped into you a few more times, right?"
Caden laughed and tightly held Harper's hand. "Harper, are you joking with me?"
Harper responded softly. "But I'm still a bit upset. You're mine, and I don't want anyone else bothering you."
The smile on Caden's face grew wider. "That won't happen, Harper. I just mind your baby."
Harper finally nodded and took out her phone to make a call.
"Who are you calling at this time?" Caden wrapped his arm around Harper's waist, reluctant to let go.
"Ordering food for you. You haven't had lunch yet. Aren't you hungry?"
As Harper started placing the order, Caden held her hand and asked, "I heard you and Mason Cruz are pretty close?"
Harper looked up at him. "You know Mason?"
Mason had joined the company with Neal. He was diligent and smart, so Harper had a good impression of him.
"You didn't know?" Caden asked her back.
Harper was puzzled. "Should I know?"
Caden explained, "They say he's been getting close to you lately. I thought you knew his background."
Harper thought for a moment and said, "I remember his resume said his family went bankrupt, so he came out to find a job."
Caden shook his head slightly. "Harper, here's a hint: the Cruz family. He's from the Cruz family."
Harper, being so smart, immediately figured it out. "The Cruz family from Majestic City?"
"Yes, Mason is the heir of the Cruz family in Majestic City, destined to inherit the family business."
Harper was genuinely surprised and couldn't help but let out a cold laugh.
Why would someone like him apply to work at FusionX Company?
However, Caden was acutely aware that the sole reason was that Mason harbored feelings for Harper.
He remembered once having dinner with the Cruz family, and Mason had mentioned he wanted to find a woman he liked, someone smart and beautiful, preferably someone like Harper from the Lavien Group.
So, from that moment, he had liked Harper, hadn't he?
If Mason applied to FusionX Company to get close to Harper, it meant he had already started his pursuit.
He was willing to give up everything to chase after Harper.
Caden felt a pang of jealousy. He knew he couldn't compare to Mason in many ways.
The Cruz family had a good reputation, Mason's father Kyle Cruz was a righteous man, and the Cruz family had no messy branches. Everything in the Cruz family would eventually belong to Mason.
Compared to that, Caden felt he fell short in many ways.
Thinking about this, Caden slowly loosened his grip. "Harper, do you like him?"
The question was abrupt. For a moment, Harper was stunned. "What?"
Caden asked, "Would you like someone like Mason?"
He continued, "I know him. He's bright and energetic, and being with him is very relaxing."
Harper asked, "What kind of liking are you talking about?"
Harper looked at him steadily, moving closer. "The kind of liking between friends? Between a boss and an employee? Or the kind between lovers?"
Caden was silent.
Harper asked, "Why aren't you saying anything? I'm waiting for your answer."
"What do you think I'm asking about?" His voice was low.
Harper chuckled. "Are you overthinking again? Are you thinking that Mason is young, smart, and has a good family background, making him a good match for me, so you're planning to give up on me?"
"Caden, what do you want from me? Haven't I shown you enough favoritism? Let me tell you clearly, time will prove everything."
Caden understood her feelings, but he didn't want to hold her back.
Before he could say more, Harper's lips were already on his, silencing him.
He thought, 'Since she said so, I'll wait and see.'
If Harper ever fell in love with someone else, like Mason, he would let her go and wish her well.
After a long while, Harper finally let go of him. "One kiss and you're all obedient."
Harper brushed a stray lock of hair behind her ear and hummed, "If one kiss isn't enough, then I'll kiss you more."
With that, she kissed Caden on the lips again.
Caden was completely soothed, and the knot in his heart disappeared without a trace.
Just then, the food delivery arrived quickly. It was a private meal from Sapphire Dining Room, all of Caden's favorite dishes.
Harper unpacked the food and handed him the utensils.
Caden took the utensils, a smile spreading across his face. "Why is there tomato soup?"
"Didn't you miss out on it earlier?" Harper teased with a smile.
At that moment, the assistant knocked on the office door, cautiously peeking inside.
Seeing that Caden seemed to be in a good mood, he walked in and handed over a document. "Mr. Elikin, take a look at this. I think it's quite valuable."
Caden took the document and started flipping through it.
Harper glanced at the cover, which read 'Financing Proposal,' signed by Neal Lopez.
Her eyes turned cold. It was clear he was bypassing the proper channels.
But she was even more puzzled. Did Quinn's chosen spy not know about her relationship with Caden?
Caden was still engrossed in the document, his expression focused.
It seemed the proposal had piqued his interest.
"Neal, who is this person?" He glanced at the signature and asked.
The assistant said, "Neal is a new hire in the R&D department, just joined two months ago."
Caden's face darkened, his tone unfriendly. "Why did he submit the report to me? He should have given it to his superior."
Harper smiled faintly but remained silent.
The assistant quickly explained, "No, the lady who bumped into you earlier is Neal's friend. She was supposed to hand in the document for Neal, but she accidentally gave it to me while helping you clean your suit and forgot to take it back. I had some free time and looked through it. I found it well-written, so I brought it to you. Given the tight budget in the R&D department, I thought you might be interested."
A cold glint flashed in Harper's eyes.
So Neal wasn't trying to use charm but was attempting to drive a wedge between Harper and Caden by using someone else.
Neal thought Caden, as the former president, had been sidelined by her, so he wanted to use Caden to go against her?
Caden looked at Harper. "Harper, do you want to take a look first?"
Caden handed the document to her.
"Since it was painstakingly given to you, you should read it first. I'll look at it after you're done." Harper waved her hand with a smile, unconcerned.
After about ten minutes, Caden put down the proposal, nodding in approval. "Well done!"
