No Wife, No Life Chapter 280
Molly was ready to leave.
She had never entertained the notion of matrimony with Arthur; evidently, it was he who had grown accustomed to her presence. Upon learning that Xavia had a fiancé, he refused to let her go.
At first, she felt nothing for Arthur, but he made her stay by his side.
Now, she had feelings for him, only to find out she was just a stand-in.
How tragic and laughable! She was just a plaything to Arthur!
The doorbell at the mansion kept ringing; she was already drunk.
Could it be Arthur coming back?
If he was, she needed to have a serious talk with him.
She got up, stumbling to the door.
But when she opened it, she saw Harper standing outside, tall and slender.
All the emotions she had suppressed came flooding out, and she couldn't control her tears upon seeing Harper.
She cried, deeply and sorrowfully.
Over the years, she had rarely cried in front of Harper, but now she was crying for Arthur.
Molly threw herself into Harper's arms, her voice choked, tears streaming down onto Harper's shoulder.
"Harper!"
"I'm here." Harper gently patted her back, trying to comfort her.
Seeing Molly so upset, Harper's heart ached, wishing he could find Arthur and drag him back to give Molly an explanation.
"Harper, I'm not happy."
Molly was deeply hurt actually.
"Molly, I know everything."
Harper wiped the tears from Molly's eyes.
"You didn't do anything wrong. Arthur and Xavia are the ones at fault."
Molly muttered, "I just don't understand why they would treat me like this."
Harper guided her back to the room.
Her eyes were vacant, murmuring.
"I wanted to leave, but he wouldn't let me. He insisted on getting married."
"I said I wouldn't be anyone's stand-in. Why did he lie to me?"
"He has someone he loves, yet he married me. What am I to him?"
Her voice was filled with evident struggle, her face pale.
She had consistently maintained her rationality, never believing in love. During the initial years of her relationship with Arthur, she regarded it merely as a transaction.
She didn't realize that feelings could change, and they weren't something she could control.
After spending so much time together, emotions naturally developed.
"Why? Why did he hurt me?"
Her voice grew softer. Maybe it was the alcohol, or perhaps Harper's presence gave her enough security, but she fell into a deep sleep by the bed.
Harper looked at Molly, her face still streaked with tears, feeling an overwhelming sense of pity.
But things had reached a point where Molly and must make a decision.
Meanwhile, Caden was at an auction, preparing a gift for Harper.
Unexpectedly, he ran into Arthur, who was accompanied by Xavia.
Caden knew Xavia well; she had always been Arthur's beloved.
He had thought they would marry, but after Arthur's car accident, Xavia quickly left him and got engaged to Edwin Davis, Arthur's half-brother.
Caden genuinely looked down on her.
In his eyes, Xavia could abandon Arthur for her own gain, so how could she have any genuine feelings towards Arthur?
But Arthur was stubborn, still seeing Xavia as the girl he first met. He never stopped helping her, even after she got engaged to Edwin.
Caden thought of Harper's friend Molly, who was Arthur's wife, and his eyes flickered with disdain.
His gaze fell on Xavia, filled with contempt.
"Why didn't you bring Molly? If I remember right, she's your wife."
His words were sharp. "And by the way, Ms. Williams, don't you have a fiancé?"
Then, as if he suddenly remembered something, he added, "Oh, right, Edwin's out of the country, so you couldn't wait to find Arthur?"
Caden didn't care about her reputation, practically calling her a loose woman.
Xavia's face showed some embarrassment, but she still smiled and spoke, "I may have a fiancé, but Arthur and I are friends. Is there a problem with attending an auction together?"
She tried to explain, knowing Caden was not easy to deal with.
Caden said, "Then I sincerely hope it's merely attendance at an auction, and that following its conclusion, no one captures photographic evidence suggesting you two are embarking on yet another romantic rendezvous."
"Arthur has a wife, and you have a fiancé. It's inappropriate for you to be together like this."
Caden's gaze grew colder: "Do your fans know about this? It's best not to do anything you'll both regret."
Clearly, he was warning her.
Xavia's face darkened, her smile becoming stiff.
She looked at Arthur with a bit of grievance.
Arthur hesitated but finally spoke, "Caden, stop. Xavia and I are just friends."
Caden wanted to mock him, really just friends? Even if Arthur saw her as a friend, did she feel the same?
He could see through Xavia; she was cunning and calculating.
Caden wanted to say more but noticed people were watching them.
After some thought, he decided not to continue mocking them and didn't sit with them, clearly avoiding Xavia.
Xavia felt even more aggrieved, sticking close to Arthur.
"Arthur, does Mr. Elikin dislike me?"
Caden practically hated her.
She had always used Arthur as a tool. If she truly loved him, she wouldn't have gotten engaged to Edwin when Arthur needed her most.
Xavia had no one in her heart but herself.
Arthur understood Caden's intentions. He felt Caden was a bit harsh but knew he was looking out for him.
Arthur's gaze fell on Xavia, who seemed to be waiting for his comfort, just like before.
But through her, he saw Molly's image.
Arthur's throat tightened, his voice hoarse.
"Molly is Harper's friend, and I'm Molly's husband."
It was a statement of his identity to Xavia.
Suddenly, Xavia's smile became even more rigid, almost unable to hold it. Fortunately, the auction started, and she changed the subject.
As she left with Arthur, she glanced back, smiling in that direction.
She wasn't just here for the auction; she wanted to strike at Molly again.
So she chose this time, deliberately inviting paparazzi to take photos: she wanted Molly to become aware of their intimate moment.
