No Wife, No Life Chapter 55
Emily's hand shook a bit as she held his, but her face was like a mask.
"Alex."
She was fuming inside, but she wasn't about to let Alex see that.
Right then, Alex's phone buzzed on his desk. Emily took the chance, let go of his hand, and slipped out quietly.
But the anger inside her was still raging. She couldn't keep it in anymore and stormed straight to Harper's office.
She practically kicked the door open. Before Harper could even react, Emily lunged forward, swiping her arm across the desk, sending papers and a coffee cup flying.
The cup shattered, coffee splashing everywhere.
"Harper, I'm gonna kill you, you bitch."
The sweet, innocent girl act was gone; she was like a wolf now, her face twisted with rage.
Harper stood up calmly. The more Emily lost it, the calmer Harper seemed.
"What do you want?"
Harper asked with a smirk, her lips curling into a mocking grin.
"The shares are mine. I can give them to whoever I want. Got a problem with that?"
Harper stepped closer to Emily, radiating dominance.
"What can you do about it? Don't forget, you're just an illegitimate child. You have nothing to do with the Taylor family. The company was founded by my mother. It's the Taylor family's company, not the Orsini family's. If you're upset, go ask your mother to give you some shares."
Harper's green eyes were cold as ice.
"Or maybe she can give you a bar."
By now, almost everyone in the company knew that Emily's mom was a barmaid.
Emily felt a burning shame and anger, shoving Harper and screaming, "Go to hell!"
She cursed with all her might, over and over.
If she could, she would kill Harper with her own hands.
She hated Harper with a deep, bone-chilling hatred.
If it weren't for Harper, she would be the most cherished daughter of the Orsini family, and everything the Orsini family had would be hers.
But Harper had taken it all away from her.
Caught off guard, Harper fell to the ground, her left arm landing on a shard of the broken cup.
Instantly, bright red blood gushed out, a shocking sight.
For a moment, even the frenzied Emily was stunned.
"This is a workplace, not a place for your tantrums." Travis said as he walked in briskly from outside, followed by Caden.
"Ms. Harper Orsini." Caden called out, quickly removing his tie to press against her wound.
"Emily, if this is about work, you can talk to Mr. Lavien. If it's personal, you shouldn't be fighting here."
Travis's cold eyes signaled two secretaries to drag Emily out.
"Harper, are you okay?" Travis asked with concern.
Caden helped Harper to her feet and into a chair, then said to Travis, "Get the first aid kit."
Travis nodded and left.
He soon returned with a first aid kit.
Harper looked up and smiled, "Travis, you can go back to work. I'm fine."
Travis nodded, glanced at Caden, placed the first aid kit on the desk, and left, closing the door behind him.
Caden instructed her to keep pressure on the wound while he opened the first aid kit, taking out disinfectant, gauze, and scissors.
His face turned serious, the playful look from before completely gone.
"Let me help you." His voice was gentle, like he was afraid of scaring her.
He carefully removed the tie and checked out the wound.
On her smooth skin was a two-inch cut, glaringly obvious.
Caden's expression grew colder, but his voice got even softer.
"Disinfecting this is gonna hurt. Try to bear it. If you can't, just look at me. I'm so handsome, it might help with the pain."
Harper couldn't help but laugh.
She knew he was joking to distract her.
"Well, your skin is so beautiful, I want to kiss it. How can we let it scar?"
He carefully disinfected the wound, gently blowing it dry.
His breath felt like a cool breeze on the wound. She couldn't help but let out a small laugh.
"Does it hurt?" He looked up, his face close to hers.
Harper turned her head slightly. "No."
She lowered her eyelids, her long lashes fluttering.
Caden smiled. "You're beautiful."
Harper glared at him, signaling him to hurry up with the bandaging.
Caden finally picked up the gauze, wrapping it carefully and tying it with a bow.
"Only something this pretty suits the beautiful Ms. Orsini."
Finally, Caden let go of her.
Looking at the bow, Harper almost laughed.
She said calmly, "Mr. Elikin, this kind of childish game isn't for me."
She was long past the age of fairy tales, and in her world, fairy tales didn't exist.
Caden spread his hands and shrugged, saying lightly, "No problem, you can take it off and redo it."
Harper said nothing more. She certainly didn't want to redo it; it was unnecessary, and she wouldn't waste her time on such things.
She looked at the mess on the floor and bent down to clean up.
But Caden stopped her, pushing her back into the chair, teasing, "Stop. I don't want you to get injured again. Leave it to me."
He carefully picked up the broken pieces and threw them into the trash.
Just then, the office door opened, and Alex walked in briskly.
"What happened?"
His eyes scanned the scattered papers on the floor, a hint of coldness in his gaze. It seemed he didn't know what had just happened.
Harper looked at him, her smile tinged with more mockery.
"You should ask your Emily."
In an instant, Alex understood.
Clearly, Emily hadn't found comfort with him and had come here to vent her anger on Harper.
"Did she hurt you?"
With a glance, Alex saw the gauze on her left arm, faintly stained with red.
"Yes." She nodded coldly.
"So, Mr. Lavien, what will you do? Will you avenge me?"
She raised her eyebrows and looked at him, her voice light and slow.
Would he? He wouldn't.
Emily was the woman he cherished.
The atmosphere grew tense.
Caden watched him, a look of amusement on his face.
In the end, Alex said nothing.
Harper laughed, a self-mocking laugh. "I see."
No matter what, in his heart, Emily was the woman he would protect first, not Harper.
Alex's gaze grew colder. He glanced meaningfully at Caden and silently left.
