Harper couldn't believe her eyes.

Peyton kissing Chloe? Even if it was just a kiss on the hand, it didn't seem like something he would do.

And wasn't it just a little while ago that Chloe had threatened Harper to stay away from Jacob? How did she end up with Peyton so quickly? Did Jacob know about this?

Harper couldn't help but move a little closer.

When Peyton saw Harper, his eyes lit up.

"Harper, you're back? I gotta handle something here, I'll fill you in later."

Harper was speechless.

Before leaving, he waved his phone at Harper, as if to say he would explain later, and then chased after Chloe.

Just then, Caden arrived to pick up Harper. He saw the scene and exchanged a look with Harper, sensing her frustration.

But given Chloe's temperament, the mature and steady Jacob wasn't a good match for her. Peyton, with his humor and charm, seemed more suitable.

Jacob might appear calm and gentle, but he was strong-willed at heart.

Peyton seemed laid-back, but he was gentle and considerate.

Because of this, Harper felt sluggish all day. She wondered when Peyton and Chloe had gotten together, and sure enough, she got a call from Peyton that evening.

She asked curiously, "When did you and Chloe start seeing each other? Does Jacob know?"

She wasn't worried about Chloe; she was concerned about Peyton and Jacob's relationship.

What if Jacob found out? What would happen then?

Peyton laughed on the other end of the line. "Harper, do I seem like someone who doesn't know what he's doing?"

Harper fell silent.

Peyton seemed to open a can of soda. "After all these years, don't you know my character? If Jacob didn't like her and had no interest in her, why would I do something like this?"

"Jacob and Chloe's engagement was arranged a long time ago, and Chloe agreed to it after just one look at him. Jacob doesn't have strong feelings about relationships; they don't know each other well and aren't compatible. It was bound to end badly. I asked Jacob about it a few days ago, and he said if I could win Chloe over, he had no objections and told me to treat her well."

He wasn't the type to pursue his friend's fiancée without permission.

"So when did you start pursuing her?" Harper felt relived and changed the subject.

Peyton thought for a moment. "That day when you and she were planning to compete, I saw her and thought she was beautiful. So I got to know her. You could say, someone as good-looking as me should have a beautiful girlfriend, right?"

Clearly, he was attracted to her looks.

Harper was speechless.

But she couldn't argue with that. Chloe was indeed beautiful, with a striking presence.

"You're so straightforward! Peyton, let me remind you, Chloe's status is significant. If you're just playing around, don't mess with her."

"If you hurt her, not only will I be upset, but the Wright family won't let you off either. I might not be able to protect you then."

Harper hated men who played with emotions.

She understood that Jacob didn't want to waste Chloe's time if he wasn't interested, but she didn't want Peyton to approach Chloe without being sure of his feelings.

"Harper, do you really see me that way?" Peyton laughed. "I always thought I wasn't a playboy. At least my reputation is better than Caden's."

Harper rolled her eyes. Peyton had never had a serious relationship.

"Alright, do what you think is best. If you cause trouble, I won't help you." Harper finally reminded him.

"Harper, you're so heartless." Peyton sighed.

"I just want to get to know Chloe better. I can't commit my whole life just because I'm attracted to her looks. If I really like her, I'll propose; I won't do anything inappropriate. We've worked together for so long; you should know me."

Harper warned him, "Then don't make any promises until you're sure."

Peyton chuckled. "I know you're worried about me. I'm calling you during my popcorn and soda break. Gotta go, the movie's starting."

Harper was completely speechless.

He even took Chloe to the movies?

Why call during a popcorn break? Couldn't he be more serious about pursuing someone?

Before Harper could think more, Peyton had hung up.

Harper felt frustrated.

But she couldn't help sending him a message.

[Handle your own business. Don't cause any conflicts. And don't hurt Chloe.]

Peyton replied instantly.

[The movie's starting. You're so naggy.]

Harper frowned, almost laughing in exasperation.

Just then, Caden rolled over in his wheelchair.

Unable to resist, Harper asked, "What were you thinking when you pursued me?"

Caden's eyelid twitched, trying to gauge what she wanted to hear.

He didn't say anything.

If he told the truth, he probably wouldn't sleep well tonight.

Harper leaned in, as if to kiss him.

Caden's heart skipped a beat, but before he could react, he felt a sharp pain on his lips.

Sure enough, Harper had bitten him.

"I can guess even if you don't say it. You probably thought I was pretty and wanted to pass the time with any woman."

Caden looked innocent.

"Say something. Is that what you thought?" Harper pinched his cheek.

Caden wrapped his arm around her waist and sighed softly.

"Alright, I'll tell you. But promise me not to get mad."

Harper stared at him, not answering.
