No Wife, No Life Chapter 163
When everyone else had left, Brock shot Harper a menacing glare, not forgetting to throw out a threat.
"I warn you, anything that belongs to the Elikin Group will undoubtedly be reclaimed by us. Do not think you can seize the possessions of the Elikin family."
Now, only a few people remained in the conference room. Peyton dropped the pretense and walked up to Brock, grabbing him by the collar and lifting him like he weighed nothing.
"Were I in your position, I would be more astute in assessing the situation."
Peyton's eyes bored into him, his tone razor-sharp.
"Who do you think is keeping FusionX Company afloat without Caden? It's Harper."
"You really think a useless guy like you can run a company this big?"
Everyone respected Harper. Without her, FusionX Company wouldn't be as stable as it is now.
He released Brock and shot a cold glance at Marvin.
"Mr. Marvin Elikin, you should understand Harper's value to the Elikin Group."
Marvin was sweating bullets, his attitude suddenly respectful. "Yeah, Mr. Thompson, you're right."
He wiped the sweat from his forehead and reluctantly explained, "I don't mean anything else. Harper can stay on as the vice president of FusionX Company, but shouldn't Caden's belongings be returned to us? The properties, real estate, and his personal shares all belong to the Elikin family. They should be returned to the Elikin family."
No official announcement had been made regarding Caden's death, yet they had already begun scheming over his possessions.
Peyton didn't respond. He had no standing to answer this question.
He looked at Harper.
Harper remained seated at the edge of the table, lifting her gaze to coldly look at Marvin. "Caden is still alive!" She spoke slowly, in an indisputable tone.
"Those are Caden's belongings, not the Elikin family's. I will protect his assets and won't let anyone take them."
Marvin's face darkened.
"Harper, you need to understand, those are Caden's belongings, which belong to the Elikin family. Naturally, we will protect our things."
Harper's expression remained calm, a faint smile playing on her lips. "Mr. Marvin Elikin, I don't understand. If those are Caden's belongings, why didn't he leave them to you? Why did he leave them to me?"
She stared at Marvin, her gaze sharp.
"Mr. Marvin Elikin, you know better than anyone that he didn't trust you. So why should I trust you? Why did he choose to leave them to me instead?"
Marvin was speechless.
Legally, he had nothing to say.
Harper ignored him, stood up, walked around the table, and prepared to leave.
As she was about to walk out, she stumbled, nearly falling to the ground.
Peyton quickly moved to support her.
Seeing a weakness to exploit, Brock's eyes gleamed with malice, his tone dripping with a curse. "Ms. Orsini, you should take care of your health. I heard you've been unwell lately. Who knows if you can hold the Elikin Group's position?"
Harper stopped, turned, and gave him a cold glance. "You should pray that nothing happens to me. Without me and Caden, FusionX Company is worthless."
With that, Harper didn't give them another chance to speak and left with Peyton's support.
Watching them leave, Brock's eyes darkened. He knew Harper was right, but...
But he couldn't accept it.
Finally rid of Caden, but now it seemed there was an even more formidable Harper.
Would Harper manage the Elikin Group from now on?
What about him? He was the one from the Elikin family, wasn't he? No, he couldn't let it end like this.
Even if FusionX Company was worthless, so what? As long as it belonged to him, he'd accept it.
...
Back in the car, Harper rubbed her furrowed brow and closed her eyes. She was indeed exhausted today.
"Get someone to find Caden. The Elikin family members, Jeremy, Alex, anyone who might harm Caden, don't let any of them slip through."
She paused, then continued, "He can't really be in trouble. He must still be alive. The person behind this wants to use Caden to threaten me."
Peyton had just nodded in agreement when Harper spoke again, "No, no need to investigate these people. They'll contact me on their own."
As she clamed down, she thought of someone. Among these people, only one had the highest possibility.
"Send someone to secretly monitor Jeremy. The Elikin family members are small fry, incapable of much. Only Jeremy could be so despicable."
If Caden was really in Jeremy's hands, she would be relieved.
She knew Jeremy's character well. Jeremy only cared about profit. Even for profit, he wouldn't really harm Caden.
At least, Caden must still be alive. As long as he was alive, that was enough.
She didn't ask for much now, just for him to come back to her alive.
Just after saying this, she felt a chill all over.
She rubbed her temples, puzzled.
It had been several days, and her condition hadn't improved. Instead, she felt weaker.
She hadn't eaten anything unusual and had been taking her medication on time. Why was she so weak?
Other people's miscarriages were over in a few days, but hers felt like a serious illness.
At that moment, she received a call from Jacob, saying that since Peyton and Harper were both there, they should go to Sapphire Dining Room to discuss the financial summit.
Harper nodded and had Peyton drive directly to Sapphire Dining Room.
At Sapphire Dining Room, Jacob was already waiting for them in the room. He ordered a few of Harper's favorite dishes and some health soups.
Jacob then handed Harper a few planned contracts.
After reading them, Harper returned them to Jacob.
Just then, Harper's phone rang. It was an unknown number.
Sensing something, Harper felt her eyelid twitch.
Her face darkened as she answered the call.
A cold, mechanical voice came from the other end, "Ms. Orsini, I've thought long and hard before making this call."
Finally, what was meant to come had come.
Harper signaled to Jacob.
Jacob immediately understood and pushed his laptop over.
Harper opened the call and asked calmly, "What do you want?"
She could guess that the person on the other end was likely Jeremy.
She had been waiting for this call, knowing Jeremy had something to gain. He had always wanted AI-related technology.
As long as Caden remained under his control and Jeremy sought to profit, Caden should remain unharmed.
But she couldn't show it too obviously, at least not let him sense how important Caden was to her. Otherwise, Jeremy would use this leverage to threaten her repeatedly, and might never let Caden go.
"Ms. Orsini, you're so smart. What do you think I want?" he replied with a question.
