No Wife, No Life Chapter 324
Harper mocked inwardly, 'He's just here to get something for himself. When FusionX or HoloSphere hits a rough patch, he'll be the first to bail! Having a partner like him is just gross!'
...
"Let me guess, Harper turned you down." Back at the Lavien Group Building, Alex had just stepped into his office when Quinn's voice cut through the air.
Alex glanced at him, too tired to respond.
Quinn was buried in the robot project documents he had snagged from the Wright Group. The project was definitely a goldmine, but the Lavien Group didn't really need to team up.
Alex's real motive was to use this as an excuse to get closer to Harper, but she had shot him down again.
Even though he had seen it coming, Alex still felt uneasy.
Harper, who used to follow him around professing her love, was now independent and with another man.
How could he possibly be okay with that?
Seeing Alex slump onto the couch in silence, Quinn put down the documents, his gaze thoughtful. "You can't let a woman drag you down like this. Harper doesn't love you anymore. You need to accept that and focus on making the Lavien Group the top company in the country."
Quinn was laying down the cold, hard truth.
The Lavien Group was currently getting squeezed by both FusionX and HoloSphere. With Chloe back in town, the Wright Group was bound to thrive, making the Lavien Group's position even more shaky.
If they didn't act soon, the Lavien Group would lose all standing.
Alex's face remained impassive. "The best shot we have now is to join the robot project with FusionX and the Wright Group, but Harper won't agree. We need to find another way, maybe through Chloe."
Alex's murky eyes fixed on Quinn. "You've dealt with the Wright family before, right? You're the best person for this job."
Quinn didn't respond, just stared at Alex with a look of resignation.
Since Harper had gotten together with Caden, Alex had been in a downward spiral.
Quinn knew Alex wanted to win Harper back, but it was probably just wishful thinking.
Even if Alex tried, it wasn't certain Harper would willingly return to him.
Quinn had once asked Alex if he truly loved Harper, and Alex had denied it.
So who was he putting on this act for now?
If he continued to be this weak, people would just laugh at the Lavien Group, and he wouldn't get what he wanted.
Quinn set the documents aside and sat down next to Alex. "I know what you're thinking. If you want to win Harper back, you need to keep building up the Lavien Group, take over FusionX and HoloSphere. Only then can you control Harper."
Harper was beautiful and fierce, like a rose with thorns.
To bring this rose home, Alex had to have the power to remove its thorns.
Clearly, Alex didn't have that power yet.
If Harper's influence continued to grow, their position would become even more passive.
Given Harper's hatred for them, she wouldn't show any mercy in the future.
Alex understood Quinn's words, but he felt helpless whenever he faced Harper.
He wanted to win her heart back, but it was too late.
Even so, he wasn't willing to give up.
If he could bring Harper back and keep her by his side forever, maybe that would be enough.
Alex's eyes flickered with a deep, hidden emotion.
He pressed his lips together, his gaze falling on the pile of documents. "You've been looking at these all day. Found anything useful?"
Quinn smiled, pulling out a page and pointing to a series of numbers. "In three days, the Wright Group and FusionX are having their signing ceremony. The data in this project is complex. If we make just a few adjustments..."
Quinn didn't finish his sentence, but Alex understood.
In a robotics project, data was crucial.
Even a small error could cause the entire project to collapse.
What they needed to do now was sit back and watch the competition, reaping the benefits.
Then, maybe he could keep Harper by his side forever.
...
Harper finished her work at FusionX and realized it was already noon.
She was about to head to the company cafeteria for lunch when Caden walked in, carrying food from Sapphire Dining Room.
Harper's eyes widened in surprise, then she smiled and threw herself into Caden's arms. "Aren't you supposed to be in rehab? What brings you here?"
Caden's eyes were full of affection as he wrapped his arms around Harper's waist. "I was worried you'd be too busy to eat, so I brought lunch. I've finished my rehab for today, don't worry."
Harper smiled, hooking her arms around Caden's neck and giving him a quick kiss. "What did the medical team say? When will you be able to walk again?"
Caden glanced at his legs, thoughtful. "They said if things go well, I could be walking in six months."
Six months, that was fast.
She had been worried the treatment wouldn't be effective, but now, in just six months, she'd see a healthy, whole Caden again.
That was wonderful.
Harper leaned contentedly on Caden's shoulder.
Caden tightened his hold on her waist, suddenly speaking in a low voice. "Did Alex come by this morning?"
Harper blinked, not answering immediately. Instead, she pinched his cheek. "What, is our Mr. Elikin jealous?"
Caden coughed lightly, looking a bit embarrassed. "I have no reason to be jealous of him. I just don't understand why he'd show up out of the blue."
Thinking of Alex's words that morning, Harper's eyes deepened, a cold smile on her lips. "He wants to collaborate with FusionX on the robot project. As if it's that easy."
So that's what it was. For profit, Alex would do anything, even throw away his dignity.
Caden snorted. "After all the dirty tricks the Lavien Group has pulled on you, he still has the nerve to come here?"
"Of course he does. He wouldn't miss such a good business opportunity. But let's not talk about him. We should eat; I'm hungry!" Harper smiled, taking Caden's hand and leading him to the couch.
They had just started eating when Harper's phone rang.
