No Wife, No Life Chapter 96
At that moment, the waiter was about to bring in the wine when Emily rushed in and bumped into them, causing the wine to crash to the floor, spilling everywhere.
The waiter was terrified and looked up to see it was Emily, the same person who had asked her to open the door earlier.
She grabbed Emily, and they started to argue.
"What's going on here?" Caden's voice was light and amused, as if he were joking.
"The wine, Ms. Orsini knocked it over," the waiter stammered, her face pale.
"You are lying! You bumped into me," Emily retorted angrily.
She didn't care about a mere waiter.
The waiter was desperate. She looked up, her eyes wide."Ms. Orsini, you can't accuse me wrongly. I even helped you open the door earlier. How could you do this?"
Harper's mind clicked. She seemed to remember something.
"You said you opened the door to let her into this room" Harper stood up from her chair and walked over slowly, asking.
The waiter nodded. "She said she locked her key card inside and asked me to help. I didn't believe her at first, but she showed me her work ID."
A cold smile played on Harper's lips.
The incident earlier had happened so suddenly that she hadn't had time to think it through.
Now that she was calmer, she realized something was off.
She went to Moonlight House for a hot spring bath, and even Caden didn't know. How did Alex find out?
Both men showing up at the same time was suspicious.
"How did you know I was at Moonlight House?" Harper asked Caden, her gaze steady.
He seemed to have guessed something, a strange smile on his lips.
He pulled out his phone and showed her a text message. "You texted me to come."
At that moment, everything became clear.
Harper mocked,“Emily, you're really something. You even thought of this.”
It was obvious that Emily had snuck into Harper's room while Harper was away and used Harper's phone to text Alex and Caden.
The whole incident had been orchestrated by her.
No wonder Alex had mocked Harper earlier, accusing her of seducing him. He said she had invited him.
It was all Emily's scheme.
"Was it you?" Caden's smile grew colder, his voice filled with icy menace.
Emily immediately fell to her knees, trembling all over.
She wasn't afraid of Harper, but she was terrified of Caden.
She had experienced his merciless methods before at The Orsini Villa.
"Mr. Elikin, I won't do it again. I lost my head for a moment. I'm so sorry."
She rubbed her hands together, her voice shaking.
Caden tapped his foot lightly on the ground, as if dancing to a rhythm.
"What should I do? I said I wouldn't forgive you, but I'm a gentleman. I don't hit women. Besides…"
He suddenly stopped, his voice turning cold.
Emily almost collapsed to the floor.
"Hitting a woman like you would just dirty my hands."
He paused, looking at Emily with interest, his tone casual.
"How many toilets do you have here?" He directed the question at the waiter.
The waiter was stunned.
She wasn't sure. But with two hundred rooms, there had to be at least two hundred toilets.
She didn't dare look Caden in the eye, just held up two fingers. "Almost two hundred."
Caden nodded slightly. He said to Emily, " People like you are only fit for tasks like this. You'll clean all two hundred toilets."
Emily was dumbfounded.
Did he mean she had to clean toilets? Two hundred of them?
How could she possibly undertake such a demeaning and repulsive job?
She was a lady of the Orsini family and Alex's secretary.
If word got out, she'd be humiliated.
"Mr. Elikin, please, I can't do that," she pleaded, her face ashen, almost in despair.
Caden bent down and picked up a shard of glass from the floor.
The light reflected off the glass, casting a cold gleam.
He toyed with the glass, admiring its sharp edge.
"If I cut you with this, what do you think would happen to your pretty face?" His voice was casual, as if discussing something trivial.
Suddenly, the sharp edge was against Emily's cheek, sending a chill through her.
Emily felt her heart racing at the edges of panic.
Caden said coldly, "Two choices. Which one do you pick?"
Cleaning toilets was humiliating, but if she lost her pretty face, she couldn't live another second.
"I'll clean the toilets," she said hoarsely.
Caden hummed in satisfaction. "Alright, that's settled then."
He turned his gaze to the trembling waiter. "Bring me another bottle of the same wine. I'll cover the cost of the broken one."
The waiter could hardly believe her ears. Once she understood, she quickly thanked him and hurried out.
Before leaving, she cleaned up the broken glass in the hallway.
Emily, not daring to linger at the door, struggled to her feet and stumbled away.
That night, Caden's birthday celebration was simple. He had some wine and a small cake.
For him, it wasn't about the food. It was about Harper being there with him, making him feel at ease.
That day, he thought a lot about a certain passage.
"I stand in the midst of the crowd, pondering this repetitive life. I suddenly think, if one day, neither old age nor youth can stir my heart and I can't be moved by flowers or cakes."
"If one can't be moved by small things, then even disasters won't shock them. If living is no different from dying, then there's no point in existing."
Life was busy, but there were always some things worth not considering too much about benefits or reasons, as long as he liked them.
Without these, life would be so dull.
Thinking this, he thought of Alex.
Maybe Alex was that kind of person.
Later, Harper slept in the bed.
Caden moved the sofa next to the bed and slept there, keeping her company.
He just watched her quietly, feeling content with her breathing.
That night, Harper slept exceptionally well, without a single dream.
The next morning, after breakfast, they walked along the quiet path to the hot springs.
Banana trees lined the path, their large leaves swaying in the wind.
In the distance ahead, a tall figure stood silently in the shadows, smoking a cigarette.
The glowing tip of the cigarette flickered in and out, giving an impression of loneliness.
It was Alex. He hadn't left either.
How strange. Harper remembered his schedule was packed. Why was he still here?
Harper ignored him and chose to walk past him without a word.
