Status, position, fame, and wealth—these were all things Emily had always longed for.

"Trust me; he really loves you," Caden said confidently.

Before long, Harper came out.

Caden looked at her, unable to hide the smile in his eyes.

"Come on, let me take you somewhere," he said, taking Harper's hand and walking out without even glancing at Emily and Brad.

Once in the car, Caden drove straight to Serenity Health Center.

"What? I thought we were going back to the office. Why are we at the hospital?"

Harper asked, standing in the hospital lobby, feeling a headache coming on.

"Don't you feel like you're about to catch a cold?"

Caden looked at her belly. "In your condition, you can't afford to get sick."

So that was what he was worried about.

Harper hadn't even thought of that.

She was pregnant, so naturally she couldn't afford to catch a cold.

"I've already booked a room," Caden said, leading her to a VIP room to rest.

Harper felt even more troubled. It was just a cold; did it really warrant such a fuss?

Just then, a tall figure walked in.

He was wearing a white coat and holding a medical chart.

It was Frank.

He looked up and saw Harper, along with the stern-looking Caden beside her.

"Harper, what brings you here?" he asked warmly as he approached.

Caden's eyes darkened, glaring at Frank with a cold expression.

Sensing the tension, Frank smiled. "Your friend seems a bit fierce, huh?"

Harper was taken aback.

Thinking back to how he treated Emily earlier, he did seem a bit fierce.

Before Harper could respond, Caden stepped forward, standing protectively in front of her.

"Dr. Parker? I'm Caden Elikin, Harper's boyfriend," he declared, making his status clear.

Now that Harper was his girlfriend, he wasn't about to let any other man get close to her.

Frank's expression turned weary.

He glanced at Caden, then looked at Harper with gentle eyes.

"Nice to meet you, Mr. Elikin. I'm Harper's..."

He paused, considering his words. "Harper's brother."

Caden looked at Harper, questioning, "Harper, is he your brother?"

Actually, he knew Frank.

Given Frank's background and family, Caden was well aware of him.

Frank came from a prestigious medical family and owned several pharmaceutical companies. His standing was on par with Alex's.

That was why Caden felt such hostility towards him.

He definitely didn't want Harper to be snatched away by another man.

Harper chuckled. "He's joking. He's not my brother; he's the attending physician here."

Harper didn't understand why the usually composed Frank would make such a joke, so she straightforwardly clarified his identity.

Caden was satisfied, letting out a small laugh. "Dr. Parker, you have quite the sense of humor."

Frank didn't say anything more, instead focusing on the matter at hand. "I was just about to call you for a full check-up. Come with me."

As Harper got up to follow, Frank glanced at Caden and said, "Mr. Elikin, you don't need to come along. It's just a check-up, no need for an audience."

He deliberately used the word "audience," as if to distance Caden.

Caden's expression grew colder.

He looked at Harper, waiting for her response.

"Caden, you don't need to come," she said calmly.

For some reason, Caden felt a pang of bitterness.

He walked slowly towards Harper, looking at her intently. "Alright, you go ahead. I'll wait here for you. You asked me to stay, so I'll really wait here."

His tone was sincere and affectionate.

Harper frowned slightly. "Stop acting," she said flatly.

But Caden only laughed more heartily.

Harper gave him a look of mild disdain before following Frank out.

As the door closed behind her, the smile on Caden's face disappeared, replaced by a cold, troubled expression.

There was an inexplicable irritability in his heart.

She didn't have many tests to undergo, but it still took some time.

While waiting for the results, Frank casually asked, "Are you sure to be with Caden?"

Harper nodded lightly. "For now, yes."

Frank frowned. "He doesn't seem like the best choice. You know his background."

Harper smiled faintly. "I think his background suits mine well."

Both from prominent families, yet both had been mistreated by illegitimate siblings, forced to use whatever means necessary to protect themselves.

Every step they took was fraught with danger, but only by moving forward could they reach their current status.

Frank leaned against the bed, looking weary.

"But the Elikin family is complicated. Caden's grandfather and father still hold significant power. Even if Caden controls the Elikin Group now, it doesn't mean he's resolved everything."

His voice was heavy. "And Brock Elikin is also eyeing the family assets. Do you really think Caden can handle all of them?"

The Elikin family dynamics were complex. Harper's choice might not be the best.

Harper placed her hand on her belly, gently stroking it.

She knew all this, but what could she do?

She looked up, her gaze cold as it fell on Frank.

"I've been married and had Alex's child. Yes, I have many suitors, but who can guarantee they won't mind? Even if they don't, their families will. Even if I give birth, the child will be seen as a threat to their inheritance."

Her tone was calm but carried a chilling edge.

She had seen enough of this.

Since she was eight, when Emily entered the Orsini family, she had understood this truth.

No one would peacefully accept an outsider's child, especially in these powerful families. They would never accept a non-blood-related heir.

"Is Caden different?"

If everything she said would happen, how was Caden any different?

"He won't," Harper said with certainty.

Frank was speechless.

He hadn't considered all this. "I understand your choice. I hope you haven't misjudged him."

Just then, some of the test results came back.

Frank looked them over, unable to hide a smile. "You're recovering well. I'll prescribe some new medication. Remember to pick it up before you leave."

When they came out, Harper immediately saw Caden waiting.

"What did Dr. Parker say?" he asked.

"My health is fine. Just need to take some medicine," Harper replied.

Caden was relieved, his expression lightening considerably.

Leaving the hospital, Caden drove her back to her apartment, reminding her to rest well.

Harper agreed, and only then did he leave.
