Today, Harper had to set things straight. She couldn't let Mason keep wasting his time on her.

"Furthermore, are you cognizant that love necessitates steadfast protection and nurturing?" Harper asked.

Mason was on the verge of tears and about to break down.

Seeing him like this, Harper couldn't help but scold, "No crying!"

But no matter how hard he tried, the tears still rolled down his cheeks.

This was the first time he didn't listen to Harper.

"You reject me and won't even let me cry."

Harper knew the circles they moved in. They wouldn't approve of their descendants pursuing a divorced woman.

Mason understood Harper's point, his face turning pale.

Mason listened in a daze, his eyes slowly dimming.

"Honestly, I like my life the way it is. I have friends, a lover, and my own career. I don't want my peace disrupted."

Mason stammered, "But, but Caden isn't good for you, and he..."

'His legs are broken.' But Mason couldn't say that, because he knew how Caden lost his legs.

Harper said firmly, "No matter what, I accept him. I love him. His inability to walk is temporary. I'll be with him until he stands again. He will be my only lover."

She wouldn't abandon Caden, nor would she despise him.

Harper was right. He couldn't do anything.

Harper looked at the boy in front of her. "I know, but I can't be with you. My lover is Caden, now and always."

"Mason, don't waste your time on me. Live your life, pursue someone more suitable for you, and you'll be happy."

"I'm sorry for the trouble I've caused you, but my feelings for you are real." With that, he turned and walked away.

"Mason, I hope you find the right person."

Harper's words floated to him in the wind as he walked away, tears streaming down his face.

Suddenly, he turned back, eyes red, staring at Harper. "Can I hug you? Just as a comforting hug."

Harper gently shook her head. "I'm sorry, I can't. Caden wouldn't like it. He would care."

A greater sense of desolation and jealousy surged in his heart.

If he were Caden, he would be over the moon.

This time, Mason didn't look back. He turned and walked away with large strides.

He didn't stop until he was outside the café, where he sat in a corner, lit a cigarette, and let the tears fall.

After a while, he heard the sound of a wheelchair approaching.

He looked up sharply and saw Caden.

Immediately, he stared at Caden with a hostile look. But when his gaze fell on Caden's legs, his eyes dimmed.

What right did he have to blame Caden?

Caden was also scrutinizing him, seemingly trying to figure out what Mason had done.

In his anxiety, Mason explained, "There's nothing between Ms. Orsini and me. It's me who admires her and pursues her. Ms. Orsini has rejected me for the second time. Mr. Elikin, you don't need to worry."

Even though he was heartbroken, he still tried his best to explain, appearing clumsy and pitiful.

"Mr. Elikin, can you help Harper?" Mason pleaded.

Caden frowned, not understanding why Mason was saying this.

"Ms. Orsini would never do anything to betray FusionX Company! I stake my reputation on it! You have to believe in her character. You have to help her. You must help her. You can't just leave her alone!"

If he couldn't, at least Caden could.

"You and Harper are not the same kind of people. You don't understand her at all. You're really not suitable for her." Caden said it with certainty.
