No Wife, No Life Chapter 214

Today, Harper had to set things straight. She couldn't let Mason keep wasting his time on her.

"Furthermore, are you cognizant that love necessitates steadfast protection and nurturing?" Harper asked.

Mason was on the verge of tears and about to break down.

Seeing him like this, Harper couldn't help but scold, "No crying!"

But no matter how hard he tried, the tears still rolled down his cheeks.

This was the first time he didn't listen to Harper.

"You reject me and won't even let me cry."

At that moment, Mason looked like a child who had been abandoned. How could he not be heartbroken?

Unable to hold back, he grabbed Harper's hand and pleaded, "You like me too, don't you?"

If she liked him, how lucky would that be?

"Mason, I have someone I love. I love Caden very much. He's good to me. You shouldn't waste your time on me. You'll find someone more suitable for you, but that person won't be me." Harper answered seriously once again.

Mason's eyes reddened even more. He could hardly accept the reality in front of him.

"Mason, when Caden and I got together, he was the CEO of FusionX Company, leading the company and holding his own in the business world."

"And you? Even if I hadn't been with Caden when I met you, do you think you have the ability to protect me?"

Harper changed her approach.

In truth, Harper didn't need anyone's protection, but she needed Mason to understand some things.

He wasn't strong enough; he didn't even have the qualifications to protect or pursue her.

"If you had met me before Caden, could you have protected me?"

Mason wanted to say something, but Harper interrupted him.

"Don't say your father is Kyle. If it were just you, what could you do for me?"

"Or, if I weren't the Harper I am now, just an ordinary divorced woman without any accolades, and you pursued me, loved me, but your father Kyle disapproved of us being together, what could you do to resist him? What could you do for me?"

Harper knew the circles they moved in. They wouldn't approve of their descendants pursuing a divorced woman.

The elders of those prestigious families harbored such thoughts, and Kyle, quite naturally, shared the same perspective.

Mason understood Harper's point, his face turning pale.

"Mason, think a bit more. Your father is Kyle, and you have no real power. If the person you loved was just an ordinary woman, a divorced woman who might not be able to have children, what do you think your father would do to such a woman? With just one word, he could ruin my career effortlessly. I wouldn't even be able to stay in the country. Can you stop him?"

Mason was stumped. After a moment, he hurriedly said, "I'll go abroad with you!"

Harper asked, "And what about my career? My dreams?"

"The career I've worked so hard to build, what right do you have to destroy it all? What right do you have to make me give up everything and start over? Mason, the bare minimum of loving someone is not bringing disaster to them. Do you understand?"

"Do you know how many people are talking about our relationship right now?"

"If you come out now, those people will mock me, saying I abandoned Caden for you."

"Mason, do you have any idea how many people are watching me right now? Your reckless pursuit is just gonna bring me a world of trouble. Do you get that?"

Mason listened in a daze, his eyes slowly dimming.

"Honestly, I like my life the way it is. I have friends, a lover, and my own career. I don't want my peace disrupted."

Mason stammered, "But, but Caden isn't good for you, and he..."

'His legs are broken.' But Mason couldn't say that, because he knew how Caden lost his legs.

Harper said firmly, "No matter what, I accept him. I love him. His inability to walk is temporary. I'll be with him until he stands again. He will be my only lover."

She wouldn't abandon Caden, nor would she despise him.

Mason was stunned. He wanted to find a reason to argue, but he couldn't.

Harper was right. He couldn't do anything.

Without the aura of being the Cruz family's son, he was nothing. What could he offer Harper? What justification did he possess to implore Harper to be with him, given his current state?

With that realization, Mason felt utterly hopeless. "I'm sorry, Harper, but I really like you."

Harper looked at the boy in front of her. "I know, but I can't be with you. My lover is Caden, now and always."

"Mason, don't waste your time on me. Live your life, pursue someone more suitable for you, and you'll be happy."

"I'm sorry for the trouble I've caused you, but my feelings for you are real." With that, he turned and walked away.

"Mason, I hope you find the right person."

Harper's words floated to him in the wind as he walked away, tears streaming down his face.

Suddenly, he turned back, eyes red, staring at Harper. "Can I hug you? Just as a comforting hug."

Harper gently shook her head. "I'm sorry, I can't. Caden wouldn't like it. He would care."

A greater sense of desolation and jealousy surged in his heart.

If he were Caden, he would be over the moon.

This time, Mason didn't look back. He turned and walked away with large strides.

He didn't stop until he was outside the café, where he sat in a corner, lit a cigarette, and let the tears fall.

After a while, he heard the sound of a wheelchair approaching.

He looked up sharply and saw Caden.

Immediately, he stared at Caden with a hostile look. But when his gaze fell on Caden's legs, his eyes dimmed.

What right did he have to blame Caden?

Caden was also scrutinizing him, seemingly trying to figure out what Mason had done.

In his anxiety, Mason explained, "There's nothing between Ms. Orsini and me. It's me who admires her and pursues her. Ms. Orsini has rejected me for the second time. Mr. Elikin, you don't need to worry."

Even though he was heartbroken, he still tried his best to explain, appearing clumsy and pitiful.

"Mr. Elikin, can you help Harper?" Mason pleaded.

Caden frowned, not understanding why Mason was saying this.

"Ms. Orsini would never do anything to betray FusionX Company! I stake my reputation on it! You have to believe in her character. You have to help her. You must help her. You can't just leave her alone!"

If he couldn't, at least Caden could.

Unexpectedly, Caden's expression remained calm, a slight smile playing on his lips.

"You and Harper are not the same kind of people. You don't understand her at all. You're really not suitable for her." Caden said it with certainty.
