No Wife, No Life Chapter 137
Caden hung up the phone and walked straight in.
Harper was typing away on her computer, prepping materials for an upcoming financial summit.
Caden leaned casually against the wall, his eyes fixed on her.
Feeling his gaze, Harper didn't look up. She just asked, "What's up?"
She knew he had something to say.
Caden didn't beat around the bush and explained his relationship with Ronald. Then he asked, "How about meeting my friends?"
He wanted to introduce her to everyone, to make their relationship public.
Harper smiled and nodded. "Sure, just let me know when and where."
Seeing her agree, Caden hesitated a bit before saying, "You might also meet Arthur."
Arthur? Harper paused, her fingers stopping on the keyboard.
She looked up.
When HoloSphere Technologies was first founded, Arthur had invested a significant amount of money in it.
She hadn't interacted with him much, but Arthur always gave her a contradictory and dangerous vibe. His investment was real, but so was his malice.
He invested in HoloSphere Technologies but never took anything from it, only his share of the profits.
It was as if they had no connection at all.
Back then, Peyton was the one who negotiated with Arthur.
After signing the contract, Arthur had left a cold remark. "I don't appreciate your CEO, Harper."
His attitude was icy.
Even though Arthur didn't like her, he still invested in HoloSphere Technologies. Harper couldn't figure out his motives.
Was it just for business interests?
Whenever HoloSphere Technologies had an important project, Arthur would step in to help.
This puzzled Harper.
But she could feel Arthur's discontent and rejection towards her.
So when Caden mentioned Arthur, she was visibly taken aback. He was friends with Caden?
"He doesn't seem to like me," Harper said softly.
Caden understood but felt helpless.
Arthur didn't just dislike her; he practically loathed her.
Every time Molly played the victim because of Harper, Arthur's mood would sour.
Caden said, "Don't mind him; he's got issues."
Caden frowned slightly, choosing his words carefully before speaking again, "Besides that, I have something else to tell you."
Harper could sense his hesitation. "What is it?"
"Arthur is getting married."
It sounded like a simple statement, but it felt heavy to her.
Harper didn't understand how his marriage was related to her, but she sensed something was off.
Harper asked, "Does his fiancée have something to do with me?"
That was the only explanation.
Harper was smart and quickly made the connection.
Caden was silent for a moment. "It's Molly."
Harper was stunned, speechless for a while. "I never heard Molly mention him."
This was so sudden.
She and Molly were best friends. If Molly was getting married, Harper should have been the first to know. Why was Caden telling her now?
Caden sighed, feeling a bit helpless. "That's why I said Arthur has issues. I thought Molly looked familiar, like I'd seen her before, but I couldn't place it. Then I remembered seeing her with Arthur once. Just as I was about to tell you, Ronald called to say they had registered their marriage."
He said a lot in one breath, not giving her time to react. Then he added, "Do you know how much of a blow this is to me? We should be the ones getting married first, not them."
Harper was completely thrown off.
Was that the main point?
After he finished, Harper quickly grabbed her phone and called Molly.
Unlike before, Molly didn't answer, as if she knew what Harper wanted to say.
Harper continued to dial, determined to keep calling until Molly answered.
"Is Arthur reliable?" Harper asked Caden while waiting.
Caden frowned, thinking for a moment before saying, "Well, he's unpredictable. When it comes to relationships, I can't say for sure. I'm new to this too."
He smiled wryly, clearly trying to deflect.
He indeed knew how to scheme; he couldn't offer any guarantees because he didn't want to offend his friends, so he could only provide an ambiguous answer.
Finally, Molly answered.
Harper took a deep breath, trying to keep her tone normal.
"Molly, are you really getting married?"
Molly responded with a simple "yes."
"Is your husband Arthur?"
Another "yes."
Then they remained silent for a while.
After a moment, Harper spoke again, "Molly, I usually don't interfere in your matters, but I need to know why. Do you really like him?"
In terms of family background, status, and wealth, Arthur was certainly part of the elite in Majestic City. But Harper wasn't concerned about that.
She cared about Molly's happiness.
Was this what Molly wanted?
"Harper, you know my family situation. Even ordinary people would look down on me. Arthur didn't care about that and can give me the life I want. That's enough. Love isn't something I think about anymore."
Molly's family background was modest, with a father who was a convicted murderer. Anyone would be critical of her.
Arthur, being a high-profile figure, marrying someone like Molly would seem like a Cinderella story to outsiders. Many would envy her.
But Harper knew Molly wasn't the type to cling to power.
"Molly, tell me, does he have something on you? I'll help you." Harper asked this sincerely, almost instinctively.
Caden sat on the couch, rubbing his temples.
As he expected, things were unfolding just as he thought.
These two women had such a pure and genuine friendship.
On the other end, Molly laughed heartily.
"Harper, you're overthinking it. I'm doing this willingly; it has nothing to do with anyone else. Besides, even if he dared to mess with me, he wouldn't dare mess with you. You're quite the force in our circle."
She spoke lightly, her tone genuinely relaxed.
"Alright, Harper, I have a lot to do. Let's talk later."
It seemed she really didn't want to continue the conversation, so she hung up.
Harper was still a bit dazed.
Caden stood up with a smile, "Want to go interrogate him now?"
