No Wife, No Life Chapter 289

Arthur's gaze was intense as he looked at Xavia standing before him. She was crying, looking pitiful and delicate, but for some reason, he felt a bit irritated.

He paused for a moment, then spoke, "What happened back then is in the past. We're adults now, and we should all be responsible for the choices we made."

Xavia's smile was tinged with bitterness, as if she were mocking herself.

"Alright, I get it."

Xavia wiped the tears from her face and laughed self-deprecatingly before speaking slowly, "Do you remember what you promised me back then?"

She recalled how well Arthur had treated Molly before, and couldn't help but ask, "You once said you would help me facilitate my recuperation and restore me to optimal health. You haven't forgotten, right?"

She didn't want Molly to be happy. She was worried that Arthur, spending too much time with Molly, would develop feelings for her and forsook his promise to her.

She had long seen Molly's life as her own, so she couldn't allow Arthur to have any pity or compassion for Molly.

Arthur was ultimately her supporter, and Molly was just a donor.

Faced with Xavia's questioning, Arthur pondered.

Visions of Molly's impish grin danced across his consciousness, her alluring presence captivating him one moment, only to be devastatingly transformed the next—her form crumpling into a crimson pool, her gaze transmuted into one of profound and chilling malevolence.

Arthur pressed his lips together and spoke after a moment, "I won't forget my promise to you. Don't worry; I will keep my word."

Hearing his affirmation, Xavia wiped away her tears and finally smiled.

"I knew it. You always keep your promises."

She knew Arthur always kept his word to her. So now, she could relax and got out of the car with a light heart.

It wasn't until Arthur's car drove away and was out of sight that she lightly pressed her lips together and let out a faint laugh.

In the end, no matter what Molly did, she was just a pawn for Arthur, ready to be discarded at any time.

As for what she said earlier about being forced by her family to get engaged to Edwin, it was all made up.

When Arthur had his accident, her father even wanted her to get engaged to Arthur immediately, forbidding her from doing anything that might harm him.

It was her own choice to be with Edwin; no one forced her.

At that time, she told her family that Arthur was seriously injured, and she didn't want to delay her own future, which was why she made that choice.

From beginning to end, it was her decision.

She had not anticipated that Arthur would not only survive but emerge without permanent disability, merely exhibiting some frailty.

Nevertheless, she harbored no remorse for her decision. Despite Arthur's current position at the helm of the Davis Group, the future remained uncertain; after all, his compromised physical constitution represented his most significant vulnerability.

And Molly? She felt that Arthur married Molly out of pity. Molly was dying anyway, so it was normal to give her some comfort before she passed.

So, what was the point of Molly standing so high? Even if she became a superstar soon, what did it matter?

Molly was merely living out a few more days; let her regard all that had transpired during this time as nothing more than a beautiful dream.

Xavia smiled triumphantly. Her manager came out and saw her determined smile in the night, feeling a chill down his spine.Unable to resist, the manager asked, "What did Mr. Davis say?"

"He said he would remember his promise to me." Xavia replied, her eyes glinting with a hint of madness. "So, Molly is doomed."

Seeing her crazed expression, the manager's heart sank. "Since everything is settled, don't target Molly anymore."

"Target her? I'm just teaching her a lesson, so she wouldn'tthink she's more important than me anymore," Xavia said with disdain. "Keep doing what I told you to do. Keep looking for the people I asked for. To me, she's already dead. No need to show mercy."

The manager felt a lump in his throat, like a heavy stone pressing on his heart. But she knew, once Xavia made a decision, no one could change it. She reluctantly agreed and hurried away.

...

Harper left Molly's villa, determined to find Arthur and get some answers. As she stepped out, she saw a car parked outside—it was Arthur's.

Their eyes met, both filled with coldness. At that moment, Harper realized how much she and Arthur had always despised each other.

Harper walked slowly towards him, step by step, until she stopped in front of Arthur, her gaze icy. "Come out; we need to talk."

Arthur looked at her deeply. "Get in the car. This isn't the place to talk."

Harper responded indifferently and got into the car. Arthur started the engine, and they drove in silence until they reached a private club near the villa.

Inside, there was prepared tea, and the room was filled with a light, elegant fragrance.

As Harper walked into the room, she sat down, and asked, "What are you planning to do about Molly?"

She was obviously there for Molly.

Arthur's gaze was cold. The tea on the table was steaming, but his icy stare was full of aggression.

"This is none of your business." he said.

Harper scoffed. "Molly is my best friend, as important to me as Dennis. She even can be considered as my family, and now you say it's not my business? What, am I supposed to just watch you bully my family?"

Arthur's disgust was almost palpable. He still remembered how Molly looked when she first came to him as an adult. She was as innocent as an unopened flower, yet she climbed into his bed with calculated intent.

He was drunk at the time, and Molly looked so much like a young Xavia that he mistook her for Xavia, culminating in that absurd and regrettable one-night liaison.

The next morning, he thought it was a trap set by a competitor or that Molly wanted to use him to gain status. But to his surprise, Molly's only condition was for him to invest in Harper.

She even shared Harper's proposal with him, showing him it was a sure-win investment. He thought Molly was after money, but she was only doing it for Harper.

Her goal was laughable and pitiful. In her heart, Harper was more important than herself.

Upon Molly's first intimate encounter with Arthur, one carnal liaison inevitably led to another, eventually burgeoning into countless passionate rendezvous. With each tryst, Molly negotiated an arrangement whereby Arthur would provide assistance to Harper and afford her certain advantages.

Molly had easily used him as a doormat for Harper's investments. And Harper had no idea about any of this. Now, she was saying Molly was her family and friend.
