No Wife, No Life Chapter 175
The mention of Declan made Alvina's expression go cold. "He's my boyfriend. What's wrong with taking my boyfriend away?"
Special Agent Stephen Garcia stared at Alvina with a serious look in his eyes.
"You know how much the country has invested in training a researcher. Declan is important to both you and us."
Alvina stared at Stephen in silence.
Stephen and Alvina had known each other since childhood, growing up together as friends.
After Declan's accident, Stephen had confessed his feelings to Alvina, but she had rejected him outright. To be considerate, Alvina had introduced many eligible women to him, but Stephen remained single to this day.
Seeing his expression, Alvina smiled faintly. "Stephen, if you're so eager to know where we are, you should keep an eye on Harper. She's my blood relative; I'll always have a way to contact her, won't I?"
With a simple sentence, she shifted the trouble onto Harper.
Harper, however, responded calmly, "Caden and I often encounter dangerous situations. Having more bodyguards around is something I welcome."
Alvina mocked, "You really know how to find joy in hardship."
Alvina had always been averse to being monitored.
"Harper, you're a really interesting person. I look forward to seeing you again."
With that, the computer screen went black.
The room fell into silence.
No one spoke, and Elsie just looked at Harper with a complex expression.
It was her first time meeting Harper. She had to admit, in terms of both appearance and intelligence, that Harper surpassed her by far.
Harper quickly deduced that Caden was with her and used Alvina's information to gain the support of the security team.
By doing so, she not only struck a blow to Alvina but also sent a clear message to the Miller family, making them realize that they didn't hold all the power in Majestic City.
Without any cost, Harper achieved everything she wanted by retaliating against them.
Elsie felt completely outmatched by Harper's intelligence.
This was the Harper that Caden had chosen, the Harper that even Alvina had to concede to.
"Mr. Robinson, Mr. Harris, I hope you will properly educate your younger generation in the future. Don't do things that harm others and yourselves, tarnishing your family's reputation."
Harper spoke coldly, her face devoid of any warmth.
Harper reminded them, "Since Ms. Miller is so outstanding, she will surely meet the right person. There's no need to resort to such disgraceful actions."For someone of the Miller family's status, what kind of man couldn't they find?
However, Elsie didn't appreciate it. She felt Harper's words were a blatant insult.
"Harper, so what if you're so outstanding? You still got divorced and had a miscarriage."
Her attack was utterly unrefined.
Harper chuckled lightly. "Ms. Miller, your understanding is truly shallow."
Such a person wasn't worth wasting words on.
Harper pushed Caden's wheelchair and left the hall.
Stephen nodded slightly at Walter, and when his gaze passed over Elsie, his tone was heavy. "I hope Ms. Miller will consider her actions more carefully in the future."
With that, he led the security team out.
Elsie stared bitterly at their departing figures, feeling desolate.
She could perceive the chasm between herself and Harper. She was unwilling to give up. She wouldn't easily let Caden go to Harper. One day, she would take Caden back absolutely.
Outside the Miller Manor, Stephen stopped Harper. "Ms. Orsini, hold up a sec."
"Mr. Garcia, what is it?"
Stephen calmly handed a stack of documents to Harper.
"Ms. Orsini, please take a look at these. After a thorough evaluation by several departments, we've decided to have you lead this collaboration project."
"The information inside will be of interest to you."
Harper paused, her slender fingers flipping through the pages with a calm and indifferent expression.
The documents all revolved around one person: Manuel.
Manuel had been with Alvina since a young age, showing extraordinary scientific talent from his teens. He later almost became a scientific terrorist.
Harper and Jeremy had gone to great lengths to find Manuel, but he had been hiding in the safest place.
Stephen said, "Manuel is currently researching a new project on bionic organ reattachment. There will be a global investment conference tomorrow."
It truly intrigued Harper.
In life, illness and death were inevitable. But this project could defy natural laws, benefiting the world and being a highly profitable investment.
Anyone would want to invest in such a project.
"Why me?" Harper asked gravely.
Stephen explained calmly, "Manuel specifically requested you. That's why we considered giving you this opportunity."
He then handed her a red envelope.
Harper pulled out the letter, her brows furrowing. "What does it say?"
The letter was barely legible, making it impossible to decipher.
Stephen shook his head slightly and sighed.
"The content isn't important. What's important is that only you can keep up with his progress. And only your intelligence matches his. He has a high opinion of you, and my superiors want you to take the lead. So, we hope Ms. Orsini will take this collaboration seriously."
Harper thought for a moment and nodded. "Alright, I'll be there on time tomorrow."
With her confirmation, Stephen nodded solemnly and personally escorted them back to their apartment.
As soon as they entered, the medical team Harper had arranged was already waiting.
This time, it was a professional team Harper had brought in from abroad.
After the team of specialized doctors examined his injuries, they dared not give her any definitive assurances. They could only resort to conservative treatment. Surgery was necessary, but the success rate was not particularly high.
Regardless, they had to try.
Caden's mood was low. Since returning, he had been silent and preoccupied.
Perhaps he was genuinely worried about being a burden to Harper.
Harper looked at him and smiled. "Caden, what do you think I am to you?"
For a moment, Caden didn't know how to answer.
In the past, he could have said he was her lover. But now, in his condition, did he still deserve that title?
"Lovers should share life and death, shouldn't they?" Harper guessed his thoughts and answered firmly.
If someone could be abandoned just because they were injured, then what beauty was left in the world?
