No Wife, No Life Chapter 70
Her smile was elegant and appropriate, but there was a clear hint of detachment. Harper was always like this now.
Alex gave her a long, deep look before heading out.
As he got to the entrance, he glanced back at the banquet hall, his eyes dark and brooding.
"Alex, where you headed?" Travis asked.
Alex thought for a moment. "Back to the villa."
Travis was surprised but nodded and drove off.
The banquet wrapped up, and Harper went back to her apartment.
She took a shower first, then sat on the balcony with her wet hair, letting the breeze dry it.
Suddenly, her phone buzzed with a new message.
She opened it and found a video from Caden.
Harper instinctively checked the time; it was already past eleven at night.
Did Caden ever check the time?
But as she watched the video, Harper fell silent.
The video started with a pitch-black night, much like tonight in Majestic City, starless and moonless.
Suddenly, a faint light appeared in the night sky, then exploded, lighting up the whole horizon.
The brilliant display blossomed in the sky like a magnificent arc, as if a new star was born in the universe.
One by one, the dazzling lights shone brightly.
Her phone buzzed again with a message from Caden.
[Saw this abroad by chance, thought you might like it.]
Seeing the message, Harper's eyes sparkled, something glistening in their depths.
After a while, she pressed the voice message button, and couldn't help but laugh softly. "Caden, I love it."
She loved the beautiful scenes that Alex deemed useless and meaningless.
And abroad, Caden received the voice message promptly.
When he played it, the first thing he heard was her soft laughter, gentle and light, as if it could melt a person.
He couldn't help but smile.
"Caden, I love it."
Her voice was so tender.
Listening to the message, his deep eyes took on a slightly tipsy, dreamy look, which then turned into a passionate intensity.
He played the message over and over again.
After sending the voice message, Harper went inside, leaned against the headboard, and prepared to sleep.
Just then, she received another message from Caden.
This time, he sent a few photos.
The photos were of several castles.
Under the night sky, the castles exuded an endless sense of mystery.
Unlike the brilliant starry sky, the castles appeared deep and desolate, as if they were witnesses from history.
This solemn beauty, she also liked.
She imagined Caden wandering through foreign countryside, taking photos to send to her.
She had casually mentioned, "These castles are really beautiful."
Alex would never care about such things; he might even scorn her for being moved by something so trivial.
But Caden was different. He remembered what she said and would do these "pointless" things for her.
Harper's lips curved into a smile.
She recalled a previous conversation with Caden.
It was in her office, and Caden had said they were alike.
"Ms. Orsini, you'd make a perfect wife for me."
He had looked at her with a teasing tone.
Harper had replied calmly, "We're just in a business relationship, always have been. We can only be business partners."
Caden rested his head on his hand, deep in thought. "If it's a business relationship, why not marry for the sake of business? Harper, I can give you the best. Anything Alex can give you, I can too."
For any other woman, this would be very tempting.
"I won't be cold to you like he is. I'll cherish you, remember all your preferences, and do the things you like. Isn't that enough?"
Suddenly, Harper put down her pen, looked up at him, and instinctively touched her lower abdomen.
Her expression remained calm. "Caden, I'm pregnant with his child. So, would you still want to marry me?"
For a moment, his eyes dimmed.
After a while, he smiled lightly.
"Why not? Is that what you're worried about? I think I would make a good father. As I said, we're alike. We have similar experiences, so I know how to take care of a child and not hurt them."
Indeed, no man wouldn't mind this.
He might have imagined countless times how she and Alex were together, a charm he could never see.
But he also knew this was her true self.
If he truly liked her, he had to accept everything about her, including her past.
The past couldn't be changed, so he could only accept it.
He took a deep breath. "I think this child will be very smart, taking after you. I'll raise him well. The Elikin Group will need him in the future."
Did he mean the Elikin Group would be passed down to this child?
He would treat him as his own.
Harper remained silent, not answering him.
But she understood that Caden was right. He would be a good father because they were alike.
She had thought about it.
Even if she gave birth to this child, she could raise him alone, but she couldn't deprive him of having a father.
No matter what, she couldn't replace the role of a father.
In this regard, Caden was indeed the best choice.
Thinking of this, Harper sent him a message: [Caden, come back safely!]
Caden had been abroad for half a month, and there was no news about the collaboration.
No one knew if the Luminary Innovations Inc. project would succeed.
Emily was anxious every night, unable to sleep.
If the project succeeded, her position in the company would skyrocket.
Because of this, Emily kept a close eye on Harper.
Harper, on the other hand, seemed relaxed and was performing better, having already secured a new project.
The divorce didn't seem to affect her; she was becoming more outstanding.
After securing the new project, Harper took the contract to Alex for his signature.
She knocked on the door of the CEO's office and walked in.
"Mr. Lavien, this contract needs your signature."
Harper placed the document on his desk.
Alex's gaze didn't fall on the document but on her, his eyes dark and intense.
"Do you have time tonight?"
He suddenly asked.
"Mr. Lavien, please go ahead."
Her tone was calm, her expression serene.
For a moment, he was silent.
Then, in a hoarse voice, he voiced, "Grandpa has arranged a family dinner tonight."
Kaitlyn had returned from abroad, and Holden had specifically arranged a family dinner, insisting that Alex bring Harper.
Harper smiled.
"Mr. Lavien, you seem to have forgotten that I'm no longer your wife."
