No Wife, No Life Chapter 107
These two were a perfect match.
They didn't even try to hide their feelings in front of Jacob, ignoring him completely.
Jacob was speechless.
He sat silently on the couch, flipping through the contract documents from HoloSphere Technologies.
If it was Harper's choice, Jacob knew he couldn't change her mind.
He knew her well enough to understand that she always knew what she wanted and what she needed to do.
Caden was her choice, and their personalities seemed to complement each other.
Caden understood Harper's nature, and Harper could keep Caden's mischievous side in check. They seemed like a good fit.
Though he sincerely thought little of Caden, who was playful and seemed not mature at all.
But what could he do?
He respected Harper's choice. If she liked Caden, that was enough.
They chatted for a while, and as the night fell, Caden didn't let Harper stay overnight. Instead, he insisted she go home and rest.
He cared about her, worried she wouldn't sleep well at the hospital.
Harper couldn't argue with him, so she left with Jacob.
As they walked out of the hospital, Jacob asked casually, "So, are you determined to be with him now?"
Harper nodded. "Yeah."
For now, Caden seemed like the best choice.
Jacob pondered. "Well, as long as you're happy with him."
He was just being honest.
He had witnessed it at the hospital. Even though Caden was exhausted, he still tried to make her relax, worried she might be traumatized by the car accident.
By now, the anesthesia had worn off, and Caden must have been in pain. He didn't want Harper to see him suffering, or maybe he couldn't handle the pain and didn't want to keep up the act.
His care for Harper was genuine.
Rather than letting her see him in agony, it was better for her to leave.
In that regard, Caden did the right thing.
A man shouldn't let his loved one worry about him.
Of course, Harper understood his intentions. As they reached the bottom of the hospital building, she instinctively looked up at his room window.
The light was on, casting a warm glow from inside.
Caden leaned against the window, still in his relaxed posture, but his eyes were downcast. He was clearly watching her leave.
Harper had a fleeting thought: Whether Caden truly loved her or not, he made her feel like she was loved wholeheartedly.
Caden drew a heart on the window with his finger.
Harper saw it and muttered to herself, "What a weirdo."
But as she turned her head, she raised her hand and made a heart gesture back.
Caden's lips curled into a satisfied smile.
Jacob, standing coldly by, watched the whole scene, utterly speechless.
What could he say about their behavior?
But seeing someone as calm and rational as Harper playing along with his antics was truly surprising.
It was something he had never seen before.
Jacob drove Harper back to her apartment.
Before the car stopped, Jacob noticed another unfamiliar car through the window.
It was a black Maybach.
A tall man stood by the car, silently smoking.
In the shadows, his face was hard to see, but the glow of his cigarette was visible.
"Harper, is that Alex Lavien?" Jacob asked.
He had seen him a few times at business events.
Harper looked over and met Alex's intense gaze. His eyes were distant and naturally authoritative.
It was indeed Alex!
What was he doing here so late?
"Jacob, let me out. I'll go talk to him."
Alex didn't know about her relationship with Jacob, and she didn't want to reveal her identity yet, so she didn't want Jacob to get involved.
Jacob understood and nodded slightly.
Harper unbuckled her seatbelt and got out of the car.
Alex seemed to have been waiting for a while, with cigarette butts scattered at his feet. As she got closer, she could smell the strong scent of smoke on him, which made her feel a bit nauseous.
Instinctively, she touched her belly her brows furrowing.
"Mr. Lavien, what brings you here so late?"
She asked politely but with a clear coldness.
"What did Grandpa give you?" Alex demanded.
His eyes were dark, his expression stern.
Harper crossed her arms, her face calm, even with a faint smile on her lips.
"Whatever Grandpa gave me, it wouldn't be something that belongs to the Lavien family. Does that answer your question, Mr. Lavien?"
Alex's eyes were icy, his voice cold.
"Whether it belongs to you or not, you should know that once something is in Grandpa's hands, it's not easily taken back, even if it originally belonged to you."
He was both reminding and warning her.
Harper's smile grew colder. "So, Mr. Lavien, are you here to warn me?"
Alex paused, thinking for a moment. "I'm here to tell you that whatever belongs to me, no matter where it is or who has it temporarily, I will take it back in the future."
At this moment, there was a clear tension between them.
Her gaze was cold and sharp, no longer resembling the gentle and considerate Harper he had once known.
Now, she was radiant and assertive, yet also aggressively domineering.
She had completely changed!
She had become someone he barely recognized.
Now, she was his ex-wife, but also a stranger to him.
He threw away his cigarette, his voice deep. "I came to tell you something else."
Harper looked up at him, waiting for his answer. "What do you want to say?"
"Didn't you notice? Today's car accident could have been avoided by Caden."
His tone was indifferent. "Do you really think, with Caden's skills, he would be hurt by a minor accident like that?"
He smirked, a mocking smile on his lips.
"He always has bodyguards with him. Do you really think those professionals didn't notice the car coming at him? Or that they couldn't stop it?"
If that were the case, those bodyguards would be pretty useless.
It was obvious to him.
"They didn't stop it because Caden wanted to get hurt. It was all part of his plan."
Thinking about it, someone as cunning as Caden wouldn't be easily harmed.
Couldn't Caden foresee this?
Of course, he could.
That's why he sent Harper home first, then faced the accident alone.
He wanted to see how Harper would react to his injury.
What would she do?
So, every step he took was calculated.
