No Wife, No Life Chapter 49

They were already divorced. What right did he have to butt into her life now?

Who she dated and what kind of guy she chose was her business. It had nothing to do with him anymore.

He was the one who wanted the divorce, so what was his deal now?

She pressed her lips together and said calmly, "Mr. Lavien, is there anything else? I need to get back to work."

From now on, the only thing connecting them would be work.

A cold glint flashed in Alex's eyes. He said nothing, turned, and walked out.

That day, she buried herself in work, trying not to think about the divorce.

She knew it might take a while to move on, but life had to go on, it always did.

Just then, her phone rang.

She glanced at it; it was her best friend, Molly Reyes.

Molly was her high school buddy. They were super close, sharing everything with each other.

"Harper, what's going on?"

As soon as she answered, Molly's voice came through, demanding an explanation.

Harper was taken aback, completely clueless about what she was talking about.

"Emily has been getting so close to Alex lately, and you're not doing anything about it? I saw them out together yesterday, holding hands like a couple."

Before Harper could explain, Molly continued, "You're too lenient with him. How can you tolerate this? If it were me, I'd slap her and tell her to get lost."

Molly was always fiery, and Harper knew that well.

"Harper, what do you say? Should I find someone to teach her a lesson?"

Harper exhaled deeply and said softly, "We're divorced."

There was a moment of silence on the other end.

Then Molly's cheerful voice came through, "I never thought your marriage would last anyway. This is good. Harper, you're amazing, you deserve a better husband."

A wave of bitterness surged in Harper's heart.

A better husband, what kind of husband would that be?

In this world, the only excellent husband she recognized was Alex.

"How about I set you up with someone?"

Molly eagerly suggested, "I'm telling you, the best way to get over someone is to dive into a new relationship quickly."

Harper chuckled wryly, "Let's talk about that later. Right now, I just want to focus on my work."

Five years of marriage had drained her, both physically and mentally. She was exhausted.

For these years, her world revolved around Alex. She had forgotten what she was like before.

"Alright. Anyway, if you need anything, just call me. I'm always here for you."

With that, Molly hung up.

Harper put down her phone and got back to work.

There was a lot to handle that day. After a quick lunch, she worked through the afternoon, and before she knew it, it was time to get off work.

Just then, there was a gentle knock on the door.

She looked up and called out, "Come in."

It was the head of the secretarial department. He asked,"Ms. Orsini, still working?"

Harper stood up, stretched, and smiled, "All done."

The head tentatively asked, "It's Friday, and everyone was thinking of having a team-building dinner tonight. Do you have time, Ms. Orsini?"

She thought for a moment. She had no plans for the evening. In the past, she and Alex would head back to The Lavien Mansion.

Now that they were divorced, she didn't have to do that anymore.

But even so, she didn't want to join the team-building dinner. Drinking might be involved, and that wouldn't be good for the baby.

So, she smiled apologetically, "Sorry, I have plans. Maybe another time."

The head, being perceptive, smiled knowingly, "Of course, Ms. Orsini, have fun."

Thinking about Caden's grand gesture that morning, the whole company knew he was pursuing Harper.

Now, she said she had plans, so they assumed she was meeting Caden.

Harper knew he misunderstood but didn't bother to explain.

The head left quietly.

Harper started packing up, closed the door, and walked out slowly.

As she reached the lobby, she saw a crowd of employees at the entrance, exclaiming in surprise, not sure what was happening.

Someone noticed her and called out, "Ms. Orsini is here."

The crowd turned and made way for her.

What's going on? Harper wondered.

She walked over, feeling everyone's envious gazes on her.

"So lucky."

"If a boyfriend did this for me, I'd marry him without hesitation."

People whispered.

At the entrance, a large red heart made of hundreds of roses came into view. The vibrant red, glistening in the sunset, looked like sparkling rubies.

Caden, again!

A hint of helplessness flashed in Harper's eyes.

Upon seeing Harper, Caden walked towards her with a red rose in his mouth.

He took the rose and bowed like a gentleman.

"My love, please accept my sincere heart."

Harper gave a wry smile, her eyes wide, glaring at him.

"I think the Elikin Group should invest in film production."

He loved acting so much, it was a shame he wasn't an actor.

Then Harper directly walked past him. Caden quickly caught up, turning to wink at the female employees, "The rose heart is for you."

The women squealed, rushing to grab the roses, leaving the heart empty in seconds.

At that moment, Emily, holding Alex's arm, came out and saw the scene.

Emily felt a pang of jealousy.

She glanced at Alex and quietly compared him to Caden. Both were handsome, but each had a different aura. Alex had a rugged, masculine handsomeness, while Caden was charming and sunny, exuding an alluring aura.

One was the cold of a winter night, making people admire from afar.

The other was the warmth of a summer day, sweet and refreshing.

Alex never gave flowers or did such childish things.

Seeing the flower display, Alex's lips curled in disdain, and he walked straight to the parking lot.

He saw Caden and Harper ahead.

"Ms. Orsini, where should we go this weekend? How about a hot spring?"

The words floated into Alex's ears.

His heart stirred. He thought, 'That damn Caden, taking her to a hot spring, clearly had bad intentions!'

Thinking of Harper's nice figure being ogled by Caden, Alex felt a pang of irritation.

"Mr. Elikin, aren't you busy lately?"

He asked coldly.

Caden made an exaggerated expression, "Well, I'm very busy. I'm a man with a lot on my plate, but for my beloved Harper, I can always make time."

Alex's face darkened even more.
