No Wife, No Life Chapter 90

6 min 74.7K views

Did he really think Harper was some naive girl?

Caden, the infamous playboy of the industry, claiming this was his first time chasing a woman?

If Harper bought that, she'd have to be head over heels.

Honestly, Harper didn't give a damn about his past.

Their relationship was purely business. They were both adults, and a lot of things should be clear by now.

How many women he had before didn't really matter.

"We're in a relationship now, so I expect you to follow some rules. I don't care about your past, but from now on, you can't involve with other women." Harper said calmly.

Since they were in a partnership, it was only natural to have an agreement.

Even if she didn't love Caden, she didn't want him messing around with other women.

Caden smiled, a bit smugly.

"Are you jealous?" he asked, unable to hide his happiness.

Was she jealous of other women? Did that mean she cared about him?

"Caden, this isn't about jealousy. It's about the terms of our agreement."

Her tone still indifferent, almost emotionless.

He raised his hand and made an OK gesture.

"No problem, I'll stick to the agreement. But..."

He paused, unusually serious.

"I've never had another girlfriend before, and I don't have any other lovers now, nor will I in the future."

"I think, in my lifetime, I'll only have one girlfriend, and she's sitting right next to me. It took a lot of effort to win her over—Harper."

Whether Harper believed him or not, she was indeed his only girlfriend.

He had frequented nightclubs to maintain his playboy image.

But he just had the women there prepare drinks for him and quietly worked in the corner.

All those tactics were just to mislead the Elikin family.

Women weren't important to him until he met Harper.

To him, Harper was like a destined soulmate.

Maybe at first, he admired her capabilities and was impressed by her competence, but over time, he might have genuinely fallen for her.

Harper had a certain allure that made him want to get closer to her.

The car slowly came to a stop in the parking lot.

An attendant came over to open the door.

Harper and Caden got out of the car separately.

Eagerly, Caden offered his right arm.

It seemed he had been waiting for this moment for a long time.

Harper hesitated for a moment but then linked her arm with his.

This time, she was truly appearing in public as Caden's partner since the day she publicly acknowledged their relationship.

Caden had taken off his sunglasses, his narrow eyes gleaming with pride.

As they walked, camera flashes went off, and many reporters took their photos.

Caden, the CEO of the Elikin Group, and Harper, an executive at the Lavien Group, announcing their relationship was the biggest news in the industry in years.

[Is the playboy really settling down?]

[You have to admit, they do look good together.]

[Could this be one of Caden's business schemes? Harper is a key asset to the Lavien Group, losing her would be a significant blow.]

People speculated and gossiped.

For a moment, their appearance captured everyone's attention.

Alex, seated at the head table, also noticed the scene.

Although he was placed in the prime spot by the organizers, there was no seat for Harper beside him.

Travis had other commitments, so Alex was flying solo at the event this time.

He used to attend these events with Harper by his side.

A wave of bitterness surged in his heart.

"Harper, sit here," Caden said, gesturing for her to sit next to him, placing himself between Alex and Harper.

Alex's face turned cold. "Caden, Harper is still an employee of the Lavien Group."

Harper,  as an employee of the Lavien Group, was sitting with the Elikin Group, which made Alex feel uncomfortable

Caden shrugged, looking indifferent. "But Harper is on vacation. Right now, she's representing my girlfriend. Is that not allowed?"

He had a point, leaving Alex with no argument.

Alex turned his head, his deep eyes looking at Harper, but in the end, he said nothing.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony began.

The host gave the opening speech, followed by Alex and Caden cutting the ribbon together.

Soon, the ceremony ended.

Alex was about to head back to the office when he heard Caden say softly, "Harper, how about we stay here for a vacation? The hot springs are great, and you can relax."

Harper thought for a moment and nodded slightly.

Since she had nothing pressing to do back home, she might as well enjoy a half-day of leisure here.

Alex paused, then turned back and walked straight to the resort lobby.

From a distance, Emily watched as the three of them entered the resort lobby one after another.

Her face darkened, a hint of resentment flashing in her eyes.

Today, she would make sure Caden saw Harper's true colors.

Ideally, Caden would dump her, leaving her abandoned by both Alex and Caden.

Moon Lake Resort stood amidst lush greenery, with symmetrical architecture, wooden construction, a central porch, and decorative eaves.

Caden led Harper into a suite.

The room featured wooden paneling, a fireplace, spacious rooms, high ceilings, and handcrafted wooden furniture.

"The developer called. Some important clients have arrived, and I need to entertain them. Harper, wait for me to come back," he said, winking at her.

Harper nodded lightly.

Caden nodded back, then left, closing the door behind him.

The most distinctive feature of Moon Lake Resort was its hot springs, fed by natural underground springs.

Harper decided to take a dip in the hot springs.

She stretched, then changed into a pure red silk nightgown and headed to the hot spring pool alone.

As she left, a shadow emerged from the corner.

Emily watched her go, a sinister smile on her lips.

Just then, a staff member approached.

Emily quickly walked over, smiling. "I'm Mr. Lavien's secretary. I left my key card in the room. Could you help me open the door?"

The staff member hesitated.

These suites were for VIPs, and unauthorized access was not allowed.

Emily showed her ID, clearly indicating she was Emily Orsini, the chief secretary to the CEO of the Lavien Group.

"I came with Mr. Lavien," she added.

The staff member, seeing the ID, used the key card to open the door for her.

Emily entered the room, seeing Harper's clothes laid out on the bed and her phone on the table.

She knew Harper's phone had a password, and she couldn't hack it. But she had another plan.

She grabbed the phone, quickly removed the SIM card, and inserted it into her own phone.
