No Wife, No Life Chapter 228
After a few days of digging around, Harper decided to reach out to Alex again. She was ready to negotiate with him, as long as his demands were reasonable.
On this particular day, Harper showed up at Alex's office.
She stood facing him and got straight to the point. "How can you give me the evidence that Travis didn't transfer the assets? A new contract? Or do you want to share the rights to the new product with the Lavien Group? Just name your terms."
Alex saw her resolve from her determined eyes.
He lowered his gaze slightly and said honestly, "The evidence was destroyed a long time ago. I don't have any backups."Anything related to Jeremy, he wouldn't keep any backups to prevent anyone from finding clues that could harm the Lavien family.
Harper stared at him silently. Alex remained indifferent and silent.
But his silence spoke volumes. Harper's face grew colder as she looked at Alex.
"I know you've always protected Jeremy, but I didn't expect you to go this far for him. Alex, for your uncle, you really would do anything."
"So what does Travis mean to you? Just because he wants to leave the Lavien Group, you want to destroy him?"
Harper sneered, "I overestimated you. I shouldn't have come here today."
Harper had no interest in continuing the conversation. Instead of wasting time here, she might as well go back and find a way to save Travis.
As Harper turned to leave, Alex called out to question her, "Harper, if you were in my position, would you keep that evidence for someone else? If it were Caden, would you keep that evidence?"Harper had no reason to blame him. If it were Caden, she would do the same, so why blame him?
Harper chuckled, "If Caden were that kind of person, we wouldn't have started dating in the first place."
"Whether it's family or a lover, they should have the right values. At the very least, they shouldn't harm others and should know what to do and what not to do. Even children know that. Does Jeremy not know? Alex, one day, he will pay for everything he's done."
In the end, Alex didn't argue with her further.
Harper was right. Over the years, he had been dealing with Jeremy's problems, and honestly, he was tired.
Just as Harper left the CEO's office, she saw Quinn waiting for her not far away. It was clear he had been waiting for her for a while.
He still wore that gentle and elegant smile, but those who knew him well knew how hypocritical and ruthless he could be.
Once one chose to become Quinn's adversary, he would undoubtedly employ any means necessary to destroy that individual.
"Here for Travis?" He spoke calmly.
Harper didn't look at him, "You clearly know it."
Quinn didn't mind and chuckled, "Alright, since you're here for Travis, why don't we talk?"
Harper scoffed, "There's nothing to talk about between us. If Alex can't give me what I need, do you think you can?"
"Quinn, don't get too cocky. Alex is still the one in charge of the Lavien Group."
Quinn remained indifferent, "You're right. "
"But we've worked together for years. You should know that I know just as much as Alex, if not more. Maybe Alex doesn't have what you want, but I do."He was letting Harper know that he had what she needed.
Suddenly, Harper looked at him sharply, "Quinn, you should know the consequences of deceiving me."
"Of course I do. So, are you really not going to talk to me?" His tone was relaxed, but it carried a threatening undertone.
Harper's expression remained calm, "Fine, let's talk."
Quinn had anticipated this, so he led Harper to his private office.
The meeting table already had tea prepared, indicating that he had foreseen this.
Quinn personally poured her a cup of tea.
Harper didn't even glance at the tea, her gaze fixed on him as she spoke coldly, "Alex couldn't produce the evidence, but you can. You're really loyal to Alex."
"Thank you for the compliment."
Quinn smiled calmly, "I'm loyal to Alex, which is why I kept the evidence as a precaution. If Jeremy ever betrays Alex, I can use it against him. After all, you know Jeremy isn't a good person, right?"
Alex valued Jeremy because his parents died early, and Jeremy and Holden raised him. Alex regarded Jeremy as his father to some extent.
But Quinn was different. He had no deep feelings for Jeremy; he only cared about protecting Alex's interests.
In his view, he and Alex were a community of interests.
Although Quinn was a madman, he was genuinely loyal to Alex.
Harper softened her tone, "I know the Lavien Group is also researching bionic organ technology. If possible, FusionX Company and HoloSphere Technologies can collaborate with the Lavien Group. What do you think, Mr. Stewart?"
She had offered a significant concession.
Quinn took a sip of tea and then slowly spoke, "I see Ms. Orsini's sincerity, but I'm afraid it's not enough."
Harper narrowed her eyes slightly.
It wasn't enough. It seemed Quinn was looking to make a big profit.
"So, what does Mr. Stewart want?"
"I heard Manuel has developed an intelligent system. Ms. Orsini should understand what I mean."
He was bold enough to target that project. Harper fell silent.
They seemed to be in a standoff, neither speaking for a while.
After a long pause, Harper spoke with a hint of threat, "Quinn, we've worked together for five years, and you still don't understand me."
She glanced coldly at Quinn, "Didn't you see what happened to Luminary Innovations Inc.? Anyone who tries to take something from me not only fails but pays a double price."
"If I want to give it to you, no problem. If I don't, and you try to take it, then we'll see how it ends."
Her words were few but carried enough threat.
If he insisted, he could try to take it.
Anyone who tried to scheme against her never had a good ending.
Quinn's previously smiling face turned cold. "Are we at an impasse?"
Harper smiled, "Yes, we are."
Harper stood up and was about to leave.
Quinn sneered, "Harper, no one else can give you what you want."
"You claim to care about Travis and will save him, but I don't see it."
Harper asked, "Why do I need evidence?"
