Caden bit into the apple with a satisfying crunch.

Only now did he realize just how sweet it was.

Suddenly, Alex pulled out a pack of cigarettes, took one out, lit it, and took a deep drag.

Alex stood there stiffly for a moment before pulling out a chair and slowly sitting down.

Before leaving, Frank asked Harper to step out for a moment; he had something to discuss with her.

Harper agreed and followed him out.

As soon as Harper left, Caden picked up his phone and called Alex.

"Alex, you lost, so according to the bet, you should send Herbert back."

When the call connected, he got straight to the point.

"Okay, I'll honor the bet."

He didn't give Caden more time to gloat and hung up immediately.

But when he called to inform Quinn, he learned that Herbert had died in the hospital.

Before dying, Herbert had even left a note, claiming Harper was the murderer who killed him.

Alex's face turned grim.

From the beginning, Jeremy had no intention of sparing Harper, repeatedly hurting her, wanting her dead.

But neither Harper nor Jeremy should be hurt.

"Cover this up. If anyone asks, say Herbert died in a car accident and passed away after emergency treatment."

It sounded like a perfect excuse.

This way, it was more for Jeremy's sake than Harper's.

Alex frowned deeply.

"I wanted to say, Alex is in pain."

Frank hesitated. He didn't know if Harper would be resistant to hearing this, but he decided to try.
