Hearing Emily's chilling words, Sable staggered, almost collapsing to the ground.

This was life-threatening. How could she even think of such a thing?

Sable's voice trembled with fear, "I haven't heard of those things. I don't know."

"What a pity, we can't get rid of Harper all at once." Emily sighed deeply and continued, "Mom, you have to help me. We share the same interests."

After a long pause, Sable finally spoke slowly, "I understand. My husband and I will help you."

Harper had been cooped up in her apartment all day, busy with work for the financial summit.

From morning till night, she felt a bit dizzy, probably from exhaustion, and a dull pain occasionally throbbed in her lower abdomen.

She got up to get a cup of hot water, but her hands were so weak that the cup slipped and shattered on the floor.

She felt like she was about to pass out.

No, she couldn't just faint here.

Instinctively, she propped herself up, leaning against the wall as she slowly made her way out of the apartment.

She called for an ambulance and went downstairs to wait for help.

As she stepped out of the elevator, she noticed it was already dark outside.

The dim street light made her feel a little dizzy.

She stumbled and nearly fell.

At that moment, a drunk man staggered over, shouting at her. "You're hiding here? Where's my booze? Give me back my booze."

Harper was too weak to argue. Her face was pale, and cold sweat dripped from her forehead.

The drunk ignored her protests, grabbing her arm. "If you don't give me my booze, I'll beat you up."

Harper had no chance to dodge. She felt a sharp pain in her lower abdomen as he punched her repeatedly.

She didn't even have the strength to scream.

She wanted to escape, but her legs felt like they were nailed to the ground.

She felt something warm and sticky sliding down her legs, carrying a metallic scent.

Seeing this, the drunk let go of her and ran away.

Harper collapsed to the ground. Just before she lost consciousness, she saw a pool of blood on the ground, glaring under the streetlight.

She didn't see Alex watching coldly from a distance.

Harper would be fine.

The individuals he employed were seasoned professionals. They would solely target the fetus in Harper's womb.

He just didn't want that child.

Once Harper passed out, lying in a pool of blood, he spoke coldly to the person behind him, "Take her to the hospital."

After Harper woke up at some point, she felt incredibly dizzy. She moved her fingers, the pain in her hand bringing her back to reality.

"Don't move, or the IV will come out."

Dazed, she barely understood the words.

"Caden, I feel awful." Instinctively, she muttered.

A wave of nausea hit her, and her lower abdomen throbbed with pain.

Forcing her eyes open, she saw a blur of white.

She paused, realizing she must be in a hospital.

"What happened to me?" She asked groggily, not noticing the man beside her wasn't Caden, but Alex.

Alex's gaze was intense. He didn't correct her, speaking softly, "You had an accident, but Frank said it's nothing serious. You'll be fine after a few days of rest."

He didn't mention that the baby was gone.

Her face was devoid of color, looking exceptionally pale.

Alex felt a pang in his heart, his expression complicated.

Harper was extremely dizzy.

Suddenly, she placed her hand on her lower abdomen, feeling as if it had been hollowed out.

"The baby, where's the baby?" A sense of unease washed over her as she seemed to realize what had happened.

Panic made her more alert.

Finally, she noticed the man in front of her wasn't Caden, but Alex. "Why are you here? Where's Caden?"

Alex stared at her, his voice low, "Harper, I saved you. I came to discuss the financial summit with you and found you collapsed on the ground."

She remembered the drunk attacking her, then she fell.

Before passing out, she saw the blood.

So, the baby was gone?

Tears streamed down her face, the pain indescribable.

How could this happen? It was all so sudden.

Not long ago, she had argued with Caden about the baby, asking him to think it through.

They had made plans together, promising to take good care of the baby once it was born, ensuring it would grow up healthy and happy.

But now, everything was gone.

Harper thought, 'Caden, where are you?'

The only person she wanted to see now was Caden. She felt like she couldn't bear it anymore.

"Caden." She whispered his name with her eyes closed.

Alex's voice was cold, "Why are you still thinking about Caden? Your baby with him is gone. Harper, don't you understand? You and he were never meant to be. If that baby was the bond between you two, that bond is gone now."

His face darkened, speaking to himself, "You were only with him because of the baby, right? Without the baby, you have more choices."

Actually, that baby was the bond between her and Alex.

Once, there were so many bonds between them, but now they were all gone.

The last bond between her and Alex had completely disappeared.

Harper felt a surge of bitterness and overwhelming sorrow.

"That wasn't the bond between me and Caden. Alex, you wouldn't understand." She didn't explain, nor did she want to.

"I don't care about that!" Alex's tone was firm, not bothering to guess her meaning.

"Harper, I'm giving you a chance. I'm giving you the chance to come back to me."

This time, if she made the right choice, he would forgive her, take her back, and make her his wife again.

He could forget everything that happened between her and Caden.

He was willing to go to such lengths for her, something that would have been impossible before.

If she were smart, she would seize this opportunity and agree quickly.

Harper's expression changed dramatically, growing increasingly pale, her lips trembling softly. "Alex, the bond between us is gone. We can't go back."

Without the baby, there was no way back for them.

Maybe it was fate. She and Alex had no future together.

Alex's face darkened, suppressing his indescribable emotions, "Harper, I've given you a chance."

He was telling her that if she insisted on choosing Caden, he wouldn't show mercy in the future.

His eyes dimmed, his voice heavy with a hint of threat, "Take care of yourself."

With that, he turned and left.
