No Wife, No Life Chapter 99
"Hey Harper, let's go."
She called out to Harper warmly, completely ignoring Caden standing beside her.
Harper, however, instinctively grabbed Caden's hand.
Caden paused for a moment, his previously cold eyes now sparkling with a bright smile. He tightened his grip on her hand, their fingers interlocking.
He leaned in and whispered in her ear, "Harper, are you afraid that I might be sad?"
Harper stayed silent.
Noticing their interaction, Kaitlyn's face stiffened.
At that moment, Caden turned his gaze to Kaitlyn and smiled gently.
His smile was warm, like a spring breeze.
"Ms. Lavien, nice to meet you. I am Harper's beloved, Caden Elikin."
He made sure to introduce himself this way.
He was letting Kaitlyn know that Harper was no longer Alex's wife. She didn't need to be so friendly with Harper anymore.
Harper was now his girlfriend and had nothing to do with the Lavien family.
Kaitlyn looked Caden up and down, her brows furrowing slightly.
She had only heard of his name before, but today was the first time she saw him in person.
Rumor had it that Caden had a face where a woman wanted to have sex with him when she saw it.
Looking at him now, it was clear he was really handsome.
However, as Caden was Alex's adversary in love, she found him thoroughly disagreeable and would never show him a pleasant expression.
"Compared to the renowned Mr. Elikin, I'm just a nobody." Kaitlyn, with arms crossed and a mocking smile.
"I've heard that when Mr. Elikin visits a nightclub, the young ladies often talk about how amusing and generous he is, frequently spending lavishly."
She glanced at Harper.
"Harper, you must deliberate carefully; Mr. Elikin is not worthy of your trust. You'd be better off remarrying my brother."
She liked Harper and wanted her to be with Alex instead of Caden.
Caden didn't get angry. His eyes remained curved with a deep smile.
He looked at Kaitlyn and calmly asked, "Ms. Lavien, you're smart enough to know why Harper divorced Alex, right?"
Kaitlyn's face turned cold. "What are you trying to say?"
"You should know that Alex had an affair. He divorced Harper for that mistress, Emily."
"If I were truly Harper's friend and cared about her well-being, I would never advise her to get back with Alex who betrayed their marriage."
Caden's eyes, though smiling, were filled with sarcasm.
"From this, it seems you don't really consider Harper a close friend. You are still siding with Alex, considering his reputation and not wanting him to marry a woman of poor background."
Caden's sharp words left Kaitlyn speechless.
"Ms. Lavien, your brother has someone else in his heart." He paused, glancing at the corner where Holden and Alex stood, his smile deepening, his tone more serious.
"Your brother said himself that he doesn't love Harper. Are you really looking out for Harper, or are you just thinking about Alex, believing Harper is more suitable as Alex's wife?"
Caden tightened his grip on Harper's hand and looked at her with deep affection. "I'm different from Alex. Since Harper chose me, I will never betray our relationship. She will always be my only choice."
He deliberately brought this up to let Kaitlyn know that even if the Elikin family wasn't great, they weren't to be trifled with either.
If she was smart enough, she'd get the hint and stop bringing up Alex around Harper.
His words were aimed at Kaitlyn, but they were also meant for Alex and Holden, who were standing nearby.
Kaitlyn, usually so quick with her words, was now silent.
She realized Caden had a point.
Just then, Jeremy walked over with a smile, standing beside Kaitlyn, and explained, "Kaitlyn's still a bit immature. She means no harm, Mr. Elikin. Please don't take it to heart."
The Lavien family members were all good-looking, and Jeremy was no exception.
Even though Jeremy was nearing fifty, he was still well-maintained. His demeanor was gentle and refined.
No one would have thought that someone like him could do those things.
Caden smiled lightly, his tone casual. "Ms. Lavien isn't exactly a kid anymore, yet she's still so naive. You should keep an eye on her, so she doesn't make the wrong choice in a moment of impulse."
He was implying something.
Although he didn't mention Alex directly, every word was related to him.
Holden had been standing in the corner for a long time. Finally, he sighed deeply and walked over.
He shook off Alex's supporting hand and approached Harper.
Holden was as kind as ever.
Holden said to Harper, "So this is your boyfriend? He's quite the catch. You two really look good together."
Holden didn't say anything harsh or mention Alex. He genuinely cared for Harper.
Harper smiled. "Grandpa is actually complimenting you."
But Caden's face didn't show much of a smile.
He just followed Harper's lead, glanced at Holden, and nodded slightly.
He certainly didn't have a good impression of the Lavien family.
If Jeremy had indeed done those harmful things, he wasn't sure if Holden knew about it.
Even if Holden had been genuinely good to Harper all these years, who could be sure it was out of true affection and not compensation or guilt?
However, to avoid making Harper uncomfortable, Caden still smiled and took out the gift he had brought, putting on a warm and humble demeanor.
Holden accepted it with a smile and then instructed Ron to invite everyone inside.
The meal was very quiet.
No one said much, just ate politely, making the atmosphere overly subdued.
After the meal, a few people sat in the living room drinking tea.
At this point, Holden called Harper into the study alone.
Harper had no idea what Holden intended to do; he simply followed him inside.
Once the study door was closed, Holden took out a thick stack of documents and a USB drive from the bookshelf and placed them on the table.
"Take a look."
Harper was a bit confused but took the documents. As soon as she saw the handwriting, she was shocked.
The title page of the document read "Automotive AI" in elegant handwriting, unmistakably her mother Alvina's.
"This is..." Harper's voice trembled, the rest of her words stuck in her throat, unable to come out.
"This is the information your mother left behind about automotive AI." Holden sighed heavily.
"Your mother was very smart. When she was in college, she accompanied your grandfather to an international financial summit."
"At that time, there were already discussions about automotive AI abroad. She predicted that the automotive industry would undergo significant changes in the future."
