No Wife, No Life Chapter 304
Lately, a lot had happened that made Arthur understand Xavia better.
In his memories, Xavia was kind and pure. She was gentle and considerate towards him, graceful and charming in everything she did. To him, Xavia was the epitome of perfection.
But so much had happened over the years. Now, Xavia was Edwin's fiancée. No matter what, Arthur had to let go of his obsession with her, especially since he truly had feelings for Molly now.
All he had left for Xavia were probably the promises he made back then.
Last night, Harper had sent a lot of information to his private email, all related to Xavia.
It revealed that Xavia had approached him back then not out of ignorance of his identity. She actually knew he was the rightful heir to the Davis Group, which was why she deliberately got close to him.
The innocent and carefree persona she had shown him was all an act.
She had always been a ruthless and cunning woman. Even as a teenager, she had suppressed other women who tried to get close to him, employing various underhanded stratagems to drive them away, causing some to descend into melancholia and in extreme cases, to take their own lives.
From the very beginning, her goal was clear. She aspired to marry into affluence, specifically to wed the legitimate heir, and Arthur had become her designated quarry.
Xavia had given up on him because of that car accident. She thought Arthur would die, so she got together with Edwin.
All these years, she had been plotting to make Edwin the head of the Davis Group.
The party hosted by the Roberts family was her meticulous plan to make others believe he had a mental disorder. She had schemed so carefully, all to help Edwin rise to power. From inception to culmination, she merely exploited him for her own purposes.
If it weren't for Molly, that matter wouldn't have been resolved so smoothly and perfectly.
The one who truly stood by him was Molly, not Xavia. He had seen through it all.
Still, he found it laughable that he almost hurt Molly for Xavia.
Fortunately, there were some things he hadn't had the chance to do, and he hoped Molly would never find out about them.
Late at night, Molly was already asleep.
Arthur gazed deeply at Molly beside him, kissed her gently on the forehead, and then left the bedroom for the study.
He still needed to contact Harper to find out what Harper intended to do.
He didn't want to protect Xavia; he just wanted to know the final outcome.
As he opened his phone, he suddenly remembered something. Molly had mentioned blocking some employees earlier. What about Xavia?
With everything that had happened, it didn't make sense that Xavia hadn't called.
So, had Molly blocked Xavia's number too?
Arthur raised an eyebrow and checked the blocked list. Sure enough, Xavia's number was there.
A small smile played on his lips. He didn't immediately unblock Xavia's number; instead, he called Harper.
But it wasn't Harper who answered; it was Caden.
"Arthur, do you know what time it is?" Caden's voice was hoarse, as if he had been woken from sleep.
Arthur responded, "You seem to have called me at this hour before, haven't you?"
Caden was speechless but couldn't argue. He had indeed done the same thing. "Are you doing this to get back at me?"
Arthur's voice was low. "I need to ask Harper something."
The phone was handed over, and Harper's voice came through. "What do you want?"
Her voice was lazy, still heavy with sleep.
Before Arthur could utter a word, Harper had already spoken, "If you're here on Xavia's behalf, hoping to persuade me to cease amplifying those controversial topics, I can unequivocally inform you that such efforts are futile. Given Xavia's ruthless actions, I am determined to exact retribution for Molly, regardless of the circumstances."
If Xavia hadn't deliberately caused trouble, hiring people to pretend to be Molly's fake fans and act out, Harper wouldn't have uncovered the truth.
Xavia had brought this on herself.
"I don't want you to handle the trending topics," Arthur said calmly.
Harper was surprised. "What? Have you suddenly had a change of heart? How remarkable that you've only now remembered who your wife actually is."
Harper mocked him mercilessly.
Arthur was speechless.
"Molly is my wife. Of course, I'll protect her."
Harper snorted. "Whatever. Just know that no matter what happens to Molly, you need to understand that she has me behind her. I'll always protect her."
At this point, the conversation was going nowhere.
"Harper, I'm Molly's husband. Are you sure you want to communicate with me like this? It makes things difficult for Molly."
Harper responded indifferently, "That's always been our relationship."
Indeed, he disliked Harper, and Harper disliked him. They would never reconcile in this lifetime.
Arthur hung up the phone.
Harper didn't care, snuggling into Caden's arms and muttering, "Block him. He's disturbing the peace in the middle of the night. Annoying."
Caden was a bit troubled. Her attitude was clearly one of misplaced anger.
After hanging up on Harper, Arthur unblocked Xavia's number.
No sooner had he done so than Xavia's call came through.
Arthur's eyes flickered. He glanced at the time. Had Xavia been calling him all day?
His expression was complicated, but he still answered the call.
Immediately, Xavia's tearful voice came through. "Arthur, why did it take you so long to answer?"
Arthur spoke the truth. "Molly can be a bit childish. She blocked your number. She doesn't like you contacting me all the time."
He was so blunt, not caring about Xavia's feelings at all.
Xavia was stunned. "How could she do that?"
She really had something urgent to discuss with Arthur.
Arthur said, "She's my wife. She has her reasons for doing this."
Xavia could tell from his words that he was now determined to stand by Molly.
She gritted her teeth, hating both Molly and Arthur for being so heartless.
After a while, she calmed herself and spoke evenly. "Arthur, did you see the trending topics? I'm innocent. It was my agent who couldn't stand Ms. Reyes and acted on their own..."
"Since that's the truth, you can tell your fans and the public. Those who break the law should be punished." He cut her off mercilessly.
But Xavia heard something else in his words.
The one who broke the law wasn't the agent; it was her. Was he telling her she should accept punishment?
