No Wife, No Life Chapter 204
Under the streetlights, Harper glared at him, her face a mask of indifference. "Alex, have you forgotten? We're divorced. You're just my ex-husband now, and you don't get a say in my life."
She emphasized "ex-husband" to drive the point home.
Alex's fists tightened, his eyes cold. "Harper, do you always have to push my buttons?"
Harper said, "I'm just telling the truth."
"I am genuinely curious as to why you still dare to meet me. You were the one who suppressed the matter with Emily, weren't you?"
"She has never exhibited remorse, persistently inflicting harm upon those dear to me, while you consistently cleaned up her mess with money. I refrained from confronting you, yet here you came to me."
She paused, her gaze sharp as a knife.
"Alex, how do you still have the nerve to face me?"
With that, Harper got into her car without a second glance.
Her security team naturally followed.
The empty road left him standing alone.
He stood under the streetlight, his shadow long and lonely.
Silently, he lit a cigarette. When he looked up, he saw a pair of hostile eyes watching him.
Back in his room, Mason didn't turn on the light. He hid behind the curtain, secretly watching Harper.
He saw Harper talking to Alex. Of course, he knew Alex, Harper's ex-husband.
Why did he come to see Harper? Was he regretting it? Wanting to get back together? But on what grounds?
Mason glared at him with malice.
Alex merely glanced at him, a faint smile on his lips.
In his mind, Mason wasn't even worthy of being his competitor. The only one who could be his rival now was Caden.
...
Harper got into her car and drove straight to her apartment.
Meanwhile, Neal suddenly received a video.
It was sent from an unknown number with a brief message: [You might find this useful.]
Neal opened the video curiously.
In the video, Harper was in the company parking lot with a man, both gazing at a kitten. Their heads were closely aligned, nearly touching.
The man was Mason, and his eyes couldn't hide his affection for Harper.
From this angle, their actions seemed intimate, like a couple.
Seeing the video, Neal couldn't help but sneer.
Wasn't Harper engaged to Caden?
What was she doing now? Did Harper know Mason's identity and was grooming him as her next target?
Did Caden know about this? No man would allow his fiancée to do such things. If Caden found out, what would he do?
The deeper the love, the deeper the hate. He might even want to kill Harper, let alone protect her.
By then, Caden would undoubtedly seek retribution against her, revealing to everyone the true nature of Harper as an unfaithful woman
And Kyle? If he knew Harper was still involved with his son despite being engaged, he wouldn't let her off either.
The more glorious Harper was now, the more miserable she would be in the future.
Neal would never forget the humiliation Harper had given him.
When the opportune moment arrived, he would assuredly exact his revenge.
...
Harper returned to her apartment late at night. Caden was still up.
When Caden finally saw Harper, she was holding a gray kitten, with the security guards carrying a cat bed and other essentials behind her.
"Did you get a cat?" Caden asked.
The guard glanced at Harper but stayed silent, setting down the items and leaving.
"No, I didn't buy it."
Harper placed the kitten in the cat bed and set up the litter box and other things. "Mason found it."
Caden frowned. "He found the cat, and you decided to bring it home?"
He had thought the little kitten was cute, but now it seemed like a nuisance.
Harper washed her hands and then snuggled close to him, wrapping her slender arms around his neck.
"Are you jealous?"
She had guessed that bringing the cat home would annoy Caden, but she wanted to tease him.
Caden didn't speak, his eyes fixed on her.
Harper didn't look away, still smiling. "Today, Mason and I went to the night market for some barbecue. I found him quite considerate. He was worried I'd burn my hands, so he peeled a whole bowl of crab meat for me."
"Isn't he thoughtful?" Harper asked.
Caden looked at her and said calmly, "I can peel crab too."
Harper laughed. "Not only that, he even offered to give me his paycheck to manage."
This joke was a bit much.
Caden's eyelids twitched at the mention of the paycheck.
Everyone knew that paychecks were handed over by husbands to their wives. What was Mason implying?
Caden grumbled, "Aren't all my cards with you? You know the passwords."
It wasn't just his paycheck. All his assets, movable and immovable, were already written in his will. Whether now or in the future, everything he had was Harper's. How could a paycheck compare?
"Are you mad?" Seeing his sulky expression, Harper almost burst out laughing.
Caden remained silent.
Harper gently tapped his forehead with her finger. "Why aren't you answering me?"
"I remember someone once saying that Mason's status, family background, and looks were perfectly suited for me, and that I should be with him. Why are you silent now?"
Caden lowered his eyes, looking deflated.
"I remember you always had long speeches to reason with me. Why aren't you saying anything?"
"Mason made it clear that he really loves me."
"Don't you want to know my answer?"
Harper leaned closer, her forehead touching his, their breaths mingling.
"Caden, I'll ask you again. Do you really want me to be with another man, to leave you? Do you truly want me to leave?"
She grabbed his hand, intertwining their fingers.
"I would hold his hand like this and become his closest lover."
Then she let go of his hand and threw herself into his arms.
"I would hug him like this, like lovers do."
Caden's body stiffened, feeling her gradually pull away.
Harper looked up, and Caden seemed to want to avoid her gaze.
Harper wouldn't let him.
She grabbed his chin, leaned in, and pressed her lips to his, her tongue slipping in. Feeling his response, she quickly pulled away.
"I would kiss him like this, passionately and intensely."
Her eyes sparkled as she looked at him.
"Caden, I'm asking you, do you really want this?"
"Do you want me to do those things with another man? Is that what you expect?"
