No Wife, No Life Chapter 263

Once upon a time, Harper thought she hated Alvina, the woman standing before her.

But now, seeing her in person, Harper realized she couldn't muster any hatred at all.

Instead of hate, she felt a deep sense of grievance, an indescribable feeling of being wronged.

Suppressing her emotions, she nodded slightly and said softly, "This place is really beautiful."

"It wasn't always this beautiful. I designed it myself," Alvina explained with a light laugh.

She led Harper inside. The interior was simple yet elegant, adorned with exquisite artworks that created a warm and comfortable atmosphere.

The living room featured a massive floor-to-ceiling window facing the endless ocean. The sound of waves crashing against the rocks was soothing.

"Have a seat," Alvina gestured to the sofa. "Orion prepared a welcome gift for you. It's a set of ruby jewelry that I know you'll love. It's truly beautiful."

On the table sat an intricately carved box, emitting a faint, unique fragrance.

"Go ahead; open it," Alvina urged.

Harper hesitated. "I'm not here for gifts. I want to meet your medical team. I need to know if they can really cure Caden."

Her purpose was straightforward: to meet the medical team, which was the only reason she had left her home country to see Alvina.

Thinking about this, Alvina felt a pang of sadness. There was no excitement in their reunion after all these years.

For so long, Alvina had wanted to apologize to Harper, but her pride wouldn't let her. She even wanted to hug Harper, who used to nestle in her arms.

Looking at Harper, Alvina asked with slightly hoarse voice, "Do you want to see your father?"

She wanted Harper to stay a little longer.

Harper remained silent.

"Please, see him," Alvina insisted. "What I did wrong has nothing to do with him."

Alvina had used their genes to create Harper and Dennis, something Declan knew nothing about.

After a moment of silence, Harper nodded. "Okay."Alvina led her to put on protective gear and enter the underground lab.

"Declan's body is still very weak, so he can only survive on glucose in a sealed environment for now."

She opened the door, revealing a man lying there.

To be precise, he was a half-human, half-machine.

Alvina walked over, habitually sitting on the sofa by the bed, holding Declan's hand with an unmistakable smile on her face.

"Harper, your father will love you both very much if he knows your existence. This is all my fault, so if you need to hate someone, hate me. It has nothing to do with Declan."

"He's a gentle person. He once told me that if we had children, he would make them the happiest kids in the world."

Harper's eyes flickered. "I've never hated him."

Alvina finally smiled.

"Harper, come meet your father. If he sees you, maybe Declan will wake up soon." She said this softly.

For some reason, Harper walked over, sat on the sofa, and gently held the hand Alvina offered.

His hand was warm. She could feel his pulse, as if he were truly asleep.

He really was her father.

"There's a connection to his brain here. Through it, you can try to enter his inner world."

Alvina's voice was ethereal, like a dream.

When the electrodes were attached to her fingers, Harper felt a headache, as if she were entering a surreal world.

She truly entered Declan's mind. In his mind, she had a father and a mother, growing up with their love, as if making up for her wounded childhood.

For a moment, she was dazed.

The surroundings quickly faded, as if she were entering a closed space.

It was a a very familiar house, the one she had lived in with her parents all her life.

She appeared in the living room out of nowhere, the familiar scene making her heart race.

On the table was a notebook, Declan's notebook, and his cup.

If she guessed correctly, this was his mental world.

Harper froze, then heard a soft laugh behind her, followed by a gentle ruffle of her hair.

"Hey, Harper." His voice was warm, filled with deep emotion.

She turned around in a panic, seeing a familiar face.

"Dad!" She couldn't help but call out.

"Harper, you've been so good!"

Declan still smiled at her.

"It seems you've known about me for a long time." Unable to resist, Harper inquired.

In his world, Declan had raised Harper, never abandoning her.

"Alvina often mentioned you and Dennis to me."

Harper was surprised. She hadn't expected him to be aware of what was happening outside.

"She's always been afraid."

Declan patiently explained, "She grew up pampered, never suffering. She might have really neglected you and Dennis. It's her fault. She's afraid I'll blame her."

He sighed helplessly. "She loves me, but she doesn't understand me at all."

"I know she did wrong, but I won't blame her. I'll help her make amends."

His eyes fixed on Harper. "Harper, she actually cares about you too. You can feel it, right?"

"Harper, I know you're hurt and sad. I won't force you to do anything as your father. If you still resent Alvina, I'll keep her away from you, so she won't disturb your life."

"But I hope you can reconcile with your past self and live happily for yourself."

Suddenly, Harper's eyes reddened, her voice choked with emotion. "I don't hate her. I just feel wronged."Alvina loved Declan, and Harper could understand that. After all, he was her father, and he was truly wonderful.

She was a qualified lover but not a qualified mother.

Even Harper and Dennis's birth was because of their love? No, it wasn't. She just wanted a shadow of Declan.

Alvina didn't understand that Harper and Dennis were people with feelings.

Moreover, she had two adopted sons and a daughter here. Alvina adopted them but abandoned her own flesh and blood.

How could Harper not feel wronged knowing all this?

"Harper, I know your grievances. So, regarding Alvina, you can choose not to forgive her. As long as you're happy, whatever choice you make, I'll support you."

"Everyone who does wrong must pay the price, including Alvina."

He didn't blindly protect her just because Alvina was his lover.

"Harper, I just hope you can be happy, not stuck in the past because of those things."

He looked at her, his eyes gentle and smiling.
