Manuel tilted his head, his eyes sharp and challenging as he stared at her.

"Your dad and brother are trying to trash Harper and her brother's reputation. Can't you see that? If you can see it and still defend them, you're malicious. If you can't see it, then you're just plain stupid."

"Ms. Lavien, which one are you?"

Manuel never minced his words.

"My dad isn't like that!" Kaitlyn refused to believe it, almost on the verge of tears.

"No, your dad and brother are exactly like that. So, the Lavien family can get out."

Manuel ordered mercilessly.

Stephen nodded slightly, and the security team hidden in the shadows immediately stepped forward.

Colin and Duke were escorted out, while Jeremy left with a broody expression.

Jeremy was truly filled with hatred. Every time, someone would help Harper. If it weren't for Manuel, Harper would have been disgraced long ago.

The farce came to an end.

Harper turned around, her gaze catching a deep look directed at her. It was Alex.

Harper glanced at him briefly before quickly looking away.

She turned to leave, but then she heard Alex call her name, "Harper!"

"Today's events have nothing to do with me."

He had waited there just to say that one sentence.

Harper stopped, finding it quite amusing.

"What do you want me to say?"

"You tell me today's events have nothing to do with you. How do you figure that?"

Harper's gaze was indifferent. "You say you want to start over with me and you want to remarry me. So, let me ask you, what about Emily and Jeremy?"

"You let them hurt me recklessly. If it weren't for your support, Jeremy wouldn't have brought Colin and Duke here today to insult me and Dennis."

"You knew everything, yet you did nothing to stop it."

For a moment, Alex's face turned cold.

He was at a loss for words. What could he say?

"Harper, I'm here to take you home."

Hearing that familiar voice, the atmosphere instantly changed.

Turning around, Harper saw Caden waiting outside the banquet hall.

He was sitting in a wheelchair, smiling quietly at her.

"You're hurt so badly, and you're still running around. You truly worry me." Harper walked over, her tone carrying a hint of reproach.

Caden's smile deepened.

He liked this kind of reproach. Harper was worried about him.

"Alright, let's go home and talk."

Harper stepped forward, pushing his wheelchair as they walked out.

From a distance, Alex stood there, silently watching them.

The Harper in his memory had never treated him like this.

Damn Caden, why didn't he die in that car accident? Why did he have to come back alive?

Alex's eyes darkened, a sharp hatred flashing through them.

"Caden!" Suddenly, he called out Caden's name.

Harper continued to walk ahead, acting as if she hadn't heard.

Alex wouldn't say anything good now, and she didn't want to listen.

She continued pushing the wheelchair, but Caden held Harper's hand and gently said, "Harper, stop. I want to hear what he has to say."

Harper stopped.

"Caden, look at yourself now. Do you think you're worthy of Harper?" Alex asked with a mocking tone.

"This is between us; it has nothing to do with you." Harper turned around and answered coldly.

Alex, however, kept his gaze on Caden, seemingly waiting for his answer.

He simply wanted to strike at Caden, to make him suffer.

Caden stared back at him without backing down and retorted, "So what? Harper will choose me. She won't choose you."

Alex's hand slowly clenched, his eyes cold enough to freeze.

"Just because she chooses you now doesn't mean she'll choose you forever. No one wants to spend their life with a cripple."

Alex emphasized the word "cripple."

Caden paused, pursing his lips, as if wanting to argue, but ultimately, he remained silent.

In truth, he couldn't be sure, because he had no confidence.

He could not be certain whether Harper would steadfastly choose him, nor did he wish for Harper to remain with someone as worthless as himself.

"Why didn't you answer him?" Harper was a bit angry, looking down at Caden with a cold gaze. "You should have told him that I love you, and I won't leave."

Caden remained silent.

Harper sighed helplessly, looking up at Alex.

"Alex, I'm collaborating with Manuel now. If a doctor can cure him, that's great. If not, we'll do new research. I'll make sure he's just like a normal person. He'll never be a cripple."

"I won't abandon him."

With that, Harper said no more and pushed Caden away.

Back in the car, Harper drove in silence.

Caden noticed and spoke up, "Don't be mad, okay? It's my fault."

"I don't want to drag you down. Like Alex said, I'm just a cripple now."

His voice was low, and he didn't have the confidence he used to.

He didn't even dare to look at Harper.

After the car accident, he lost his legs, undergoing a tremendous upheaval. No one could fathom how he truly felt.

In front of the person he loved most, he wanted to bring her pride, not burden.

"I'm sorry." His voice was even lower.

Finally, Harper blinked and said, "I understand how you feel. You're afraid of the future. But I want to tell you, right now, my heart is with you. The person I've chosen is you. The person I've decided to spend my life with is also you. "If you can't be healed, we'll conduct research. I will ensure that you walk again."

She looked ahead, her eyes filled with determination and calm.

"Caden should stand tall, looking down on others, not hiding in a corner with low self-esteem."

"I'm not mad at you. I just want to tell you, you shouldn't be like this. You should trust me, and trust yourself."

Hearing her words, Caden's restless and anxious emotions disappeared.

He was grateful that from the beginning, he chose Harper, not anyone else.

It proved that his choice was right.

...

After leaving the banquet hall, Kaitlyn's face was pale with anger.

Since she was a child, she had been protected like a princess in a castle.

She never knew the real world was like this. She couldn't handle what she experienced today, feeling like she was about to break down.

Kaitlyn asked, "Why did you do this today?"Jeremy sighed, his face dark.

"Kaitlyn, do you believe what Manuel said? You'd rather believe him than me and Mark?"

He still wanted to cover it up.

"It's not about believing or not. I want to know the truth!" Kaitlyn exploded, shouting angrily.

"When Manuel questioned me, I felt like a fool. Everyone was laughing at me. So, I want to hear the truth from you."
