No Wife, No Life Chapter 141
Harper swirled her glass, her lips still smiling, but her words were far from gentle. "Oh, I don't really care about that stuff. But do you remember all of it? How many lovers do you go through in a year? Do you remember each one clearly? Seems like they left quite an impression on you."
This was the real Harper, sharp-tongued and unyielding.
Caden chuckled softly, leaning in to whisper in her ear, "Got it. I'll make a detailed list tonight and have it on your desk first thing in the morning. How's that sound?"
Harper didn't respond, taking a slow sip of her drink.
Caden asked, "But I'm curious, are you asking because you care about me?"
He really was something, always flaunting himself at every opportunity. His shamelessness was infuriating.
Harper lowered her gaze, not wanting to engage with him any further.
The party wrapped up quickly. After all, there wasn't much to say among this group; sitting together was like a battlefield, with every word a potential attack.
As the event ended, everyone began to leave the room.
The Sapphire Dining Room was nearly full, with many media reporters among the crowd. The room buzzed with anticipation, all eyes fixed on the direction from which they would emerge.
This was the most bizarre news of the year in Majestic City.
As the elevator doors opened, Ronald was the first to step out, freezing at the sight before him.
It felt like he was an animal on display.
He reacted quickly as he pointed behind him and said, "Hey, Travis is right behind me, from the Reed family. If you need anything, just ask him. He knows everything."
With that, he made a swift exit.
Travis, who followed, looked visibly annoyed. Ronald was utterly lacking in loyalty!
He hesitated, unsure of what to say.
Quinn, however, remained composed, having anticipated this.
He walked out with measured steps, his voice cool and detached. "Ladies and gentlemen, it's getting late. Time to wrap it up."
Arthur chimed in as well.
It was indeed strange, as they saw people from the Lavien Group and the Elikin Group unite.
With their words, the crowd began to disperse.
Harper finally stepped out of the elevator.
She kept her gaze straight ahead, completely ignoring Alex.
Alex, however, couldn't take his eyes off her. Seeing her deliberately avoid him, he clenched his fists tightly.
If he could, he would have walked right up to her in front of everyone and hugged her again.
But he didn't have the courage.
His damned pride also wouldn't allow it. The always proud Alex couldn't admit defeat.
He watched as Harper left with Caden.
"Let's go." Frank looked at him, sighing deeply, his tone weary.
Who was to blame for things reaching this point? If anyone had to take responsibility, it was Alex.
The ride back was silent.
Perhaps due to an excess of alcohol, Alex kept his eyes tightly shut, appearing to be either asleep or utterly fatigued.
After escorting Alex back to his villa and ensuring someone opened the door to let him in, Frank finally drove away.
The person who greeted him was a servant.
"Mr. Lavien, you've been drinking. Need anything?" The servant helped him inside.
Alex looked up, his vision blurring as he saw another figure before him: a slender yet strong figure.
The alcohol made his heart ache even more.
Alex replied, "No, you can go."
The servant nodded and left.
Just then, the doorbell rang.
The servant went to answer it and found Emily standing there.
Recognizing her, Emily pushed past and rushed in before the servant stopped her.
Emily said, "Alex, you drank a lot tonight. Are you feeling okay? Can I help you with anything? How about I help you change?"
He had almost forgotten she was at the party tonight.
She had followed him back, determined to see him.
She had thought long and hard. Since Alex was drunk, maybe they could do something intimate. That would be perfect.
People often said that drunk men were more susceptible to desire.
She wanted to sleep with Alex, hoping to get pregnant with his child.
At least for the child's sake, Alex would be tied to her forever.
Her face was full of a flattering smile, her eyes shining with desire.
Any man could understand her intentions.
Alex sat on the couch, his handsome face looking unusually cold under the light.
He looked at Emily.
There was no doubt she was beautiful.
He had once wanted her, even abandoning Harper for her.
But now that she was here, was she truly what he wanted? But all he could think about was Harper, bright and vivid. The only person he wanted now was Harper.
Thinking of Harper, the pain in his heart grew sharper, like a sword piercing his chest.
"What are you doing here?" He looked at her coldly. "This isn't where you should be."
Emily was stunned.
"Get out!" His voice was icy.
He was treating her like this?
Unable to hold back, Emily's eyes reddened, tears streaming down her face.
Her voice was choked with sobs. "Alex, have you forgotten? You promised to marry me. Do your words mean nothing? Have you forgotten the pain I went through for you? You said you would make me your wife, that you would love and cherish me."
She was crying uncontrollably.
Over the past few years, she has schemed meticulously, waiting for Alex and Harper to divorce so that she could seamlessly become Alex's wife.
But now everything had changed.
They were divorced, but Alex still wouldn't accept her.
She had no other option but to make Alex keep his promise. She had to get what she wanted.
She had planned for so long; she couldn't give up now.
Alex was momentarily dazed, recalling those events.
Back then, as the heir to the Lavien Group, he became a target. When he was thirteen, he had a car accident on his way home from school and was subsequently taken to a remote village.
Those people planned to take him to the border, extort a ransom, and then sell him to a neighboring country.
Someone of his status would fetch a high price.
He thought his life was over then.
But fate had been kind, giving him a chance to survive.
