No Wife, No Life Chapter 120
Before she could answer, he kissed her.
His kiss was gentle, soft, and lingering.
Or perhaps it was because her sorrow was so profound that she found herself reciprocating his kiss, allowing it to deepen gradually.
She could feel his rapid breathing, filled with desire.
His embrace tightened.
They were intertwined, their skin touching, lost in the moment.
Her jacket was removed, and he held her, kissing her, from the doorway to the bedside, then pressing her beneath him.
His kisses began to move downward, making it impossible for her to resist.
Her breathing grew heavier, which only made Caden's actions more urgent.
Her hand rested on his chest, but she felt something wet and sticky.
Blood! She almost forgot, he was still a patient.
She pushed him away forcefully, her voice clearer. "We can't keep going."
"We can, it's fine." His voice was heated.
"No, we can't." She raised her hand, showing the blood seeping from his wound.
He couldn't, and neither could she, especially since she was carrying Alex's child. None of this allowed them to continue.
Finally, the desire in Caden's eyes gradually faded, and he calmed down. "It was a moment of impulse; don't worry about it."
He was really considerate. Even though he was the one injured, he was still apologizing to her.
"Alright, sit still, I'll get the first aid kit." Harper instructed him to sit on the bed, then went to get the first aid kit to stop his bleeding.
Sure enough, the wound on his chest had reopened, the white gauze stained red.
She unwrapped the gauze and disinfected the wound with an alcohol swab.
When the alcohol touched his skin, he couldn't help but frown.
Harper asked, "Does it hurt?"
He shook his head, a smile on his lips. "Nothing you do to me will hurt."
Harper ignored him, finished disinfecting, and re-bandaged the wound.
At this point, she let out a long yawn.
After everything that had happened, she was truly worn out.
"My little princess, I'll help you sleep tonight." He whispered softly in her ear.
Harper responded with a gentle hum.
She obediently lay down, letting Caden cover her with the blanket.
Her eyes were tightly closed, but her eyelashes still fluttered slightly. "Caden!"
"I'm here."
"Caden!"
"I'm here."
It seemed that as long as she called, he would always be there, anytime.
"I'm very sad." She murmured softly.
"I know."
For someone like Harper, she would never casually tell someone like that.
She was so strong, never letting others see her weakness, not even in front of Alex.
But today, she was too tired, and in this half-asleep state, she mumbled such words.
She was with Caden, as if he were the very embodiment of reliability.
Caden gently patted her back, almost lulling her to sleep. "I know you're very sad. Don't be sad. Because if you're sad, I'll be sad too."
A tear slipped from the corner of her eye, unable to be held back.
Caden reached out with his long, slender fingers to wipe it away.
The room was silent, only the faint sound of their breathing could be heard.
Finally, she fell into a deep sleep.
Only then did Caden get up, quietly leaving the room.
A light was still on in a room at the end of the hallway.
He knew it was Dennis's room. Vance had already filled him in on everything that happened tonight.
Even if Harper didn't say it, he knew why she was sad. He could certainly understand her feelings.
He walked over quietly and knocked on the door.
He needed to talk to Dennis.
Dennis wasn't asleep, or perhaps he wasn't sleepy at all.
He opened the door and saw Caden, his expression indifferent. "What's up?"
Dennis didn't care who Caden was. He had taken in so much today that it left him feeling completely overwhelmed.
Colin wasn't his biological father, Duke wasn't his real brother, and he had no place in the so-called Orsini family.
He was just an abandoned child. From the moment he was born, he had never been loved.
Knowing this made him feel extremely resentful.
If he had any good feelings towards Harper before, now he was filled with hatred and dissatisfaction.
He could accept Harper as a senior, but not as a sister.
He stood at the door, not intending to let Caden in.
Caden ignored him, walked past him, and sat down on a chair.
He took out a fancy cigarette case, pulled out a cigarette, and offered it to Dennis. "Want one?"
Dennis glanced at it indifferently, saying nothing.
Caden lit a cigarette for himself and started smoking.
"You're sixteen, not a kid anymore. How about we have a man-to-man talk?"
Dennis looked at him a few more times after hearing that.
He closed the door and walked over to sit on the bed opposite him.
Caden leisurely blew out a smoke ring, looking relaxed. "Let me introduce myself; I'm Harper's lover, your future brother-in-law."
He introduced himself without any humility.
Dennis looked at him coldly, still saying nothing.
He seemed to be sizing up what Caden wanted to talk about.
Would this man say the same pretentious things as others? He didn't want to hear any of it.
Caden's lips curled into a slightly mischievous smile.
"Actually, I know there are some things I shouldn't get involved in. I usually don't like meddling in other people's business. After all, I'm a selfish person, and I never do anything that doesn't benefit me."
He glanced at Dennis.
The curling smoke made him look somewhat unreal.
"It's like how I came to see you without Harper's permission. She will undoubtedly be furious if she finds out. I'm aware she will be angry, but seeing her sorrow and distress over you, I still can't restrain my emotions."
"Let's put it this way, my upbringing wasn't great either. Honestly, I was almost always struggling between life and death."
He spoke lightly, smiling as if it was a trivial matter.
"My mother died when I was very young, murdered by someone's malice. I have an illegitimate brother who is a most deceitful individual. Her death was entirely his doing. It is no exaggeration to say that my survival up to this point is solely attributable to my wits and ingenuity."
"So don't talk to me about love. That word doesn't exist in my world. My only belief is to survive and then hold the power of life and death."
He seemed to see through Dennis's thoughts. Casually, he glanced at Dennis, his smile almost mocking. "I dare say, if you were in my family, you wouldn't survive a day."
