Brad stood there in shock, unable to say a word, trembling all over.

It seemed like both Brad and his daughter were equally timid and cowardly.

Caden glanced sideways, a smirk playing on his lips as he looked at Emily and Brad.

"So, what now? I'll let it slide this time since you remain silent. But if it happens again, I won't hesitate to sew your mouth shut for good."

His smile stayed, but it was icy and menacing.

"Yeah, I know Harper was married before. And yeah, I care about her past."

A flash of red flickered in his narrow eyes.

"But I've already decided she's gonna be my wife. She should be my true love. Just because I care about those things doesn't mean I don't love her."

As he said this, he looked at Harper, and the coldness in his eyes turned into deep affection.

Only someone he cherished deeply would he look at this way.

"You, just a creep hiding in the shadows, dare to covet her possessions and utter such disgraceful words about her? Do you even deserve to?"

"Her life has been cleaner and more remarkable than yours. She's the daughter of the Orsini family, Alex's first wife, and the woman I, Caden, will protect from now on."

"And what are you? Just a bastard of a barmaid. You're stupid, vile, and lowly. Just looking at you makes me sick. How dare you speak about her?"

Every word Caden said cut Emily to the core.

Emily did care about her background and what others thought of her, which was why she wanted to hurt Harper by any means necessary.

It seemed that only by doing so could she find some balance in her heart.

Harper sat on the sofa, watching the scene unfold with a calm expression.

She was like an unruffled spectator, watching her knight charge forward to protect her.

"Alright, do you have anything else to say?"

Finally, Harper spoke slowly, her tone cold.

Emily pressed her lips together tightly, stood up, grabbed a document from the table, and said, "Mr. Elikin, this is the authorization I just received. Luminary Innovations Inc. has authorized me to be their agent."

"Any domestic company wanting to collaborate with them must negotiate through me. Several companies have already extended offers to me, but I haven't agreed yet."

As she spoke, her voice grew louder, seemingly gaining some courage.

"They're offering me the position of executive director with an annual salary of thirty million dollars."

She wanted to show Caden that she was capable and she was better than Harper!

At least at Luminary Innovations Inc., they recognized her value. That's why they chose her as their agent.

"Do you still think there's no problem with this project?"

Caden looked at her with a half-smile, the coldness in his eyes becoming more apparent.

Emily said, "Whether there's a problem or not, the results will prove it."

By now, Emily was beyond saving.

She firmly believed that Luminary Innovations Inc.'s project had no issues.

She needed this opportunity and had bet everything on it.

She was desperate to prove herself that She was valuable.

Seemingly out of boredom, Caden picked up the authorization document, glanced at it casually, and his smile deepened.

"You still think you're right, huh? If you're not a fool, then who is?"

Just then, Caden's phone rang. It was a video call from Alex.

Caden glanced at the caller ID with interest, his smile fading.

He answered the call, and Alex's handsome, stern face immediately appeared on the screen.

"Caden, bring Harper back to the Lavien Group immediately. Her suspension has been lifted."

Unlike his usual calm demeanor, Alex spoke urgently.

Brad, who had thought Harper's career was over, could hardly believe his ears.

Such a serious matter, and she was off the hook so quickly?

Harper wasn't fired?

Caden chuckled, finding the situation amusing.

He could sense how anxious Alex was now.

Alex had realized that his life was completely out of order without Harper.

They were divorced, but it seemed Alex couldn't live without Harper.

Caden looked at Harper, seeking her opinion.

Harper thought for a moment before standing up. "I need to use the restroom. Wait for me."

As she left, Harper couldn't help but sneeze, likely catching a cold.

Alex's eyes darkened. "She's caught a cold."

He reminded, his tone uncharacteristically gentle.

Caden, however, dropped his smile and said coldly, "Mr. Lavien, Harper is my girlfriend. I'll take care of her."

There was silence on the other end.

A few seconds later, Alex leaned back in his chair, his hands folded on the desk.

"I understand. Let her rest well and return to work once she's better."

Caden smiled, a clear challenge in his expression."What if I hire her at the Elikin Group during this time? The Elikin Group and the Lavien Group are on par."

"If she comes to the Elikin Group, everyone will make way for her."

Alex's eyes were dark, filled with more coldness.

"Caden, she is an employee of the Lavien Group, not the Elikin Group."

"But she already belongs to me."

Caden narrowed his eyes, a clear smile in them.

Facing his provocation, Alex's gaze remained cold as he ended the call.

Emily had witnessed everything.

Like a storm, unprecedented anger surged within her.

They were divorced, so why did Alex still care about Harper?

"Does he really like her?"

She murmured to herself, her voice so low it seemed only she could hear it.

But Caden heard it.

Did Alex like Harper? Yes, he did.

Alex might not understand his own heart, but Caden saw it clearly.

Even so, he would still take Harper for himself.

He wouldn't sympathize with Alex.

So, Caden smiled faintly. "How could that be? Mr. Lavien has always liked you."

He lied, so absurdly and ridiculously, yet with a straight face.

"Mr. Lavien even divorced Harper for you. He truly loves you. Even if you're not the brightest, as long as you marry Mr. Lavien and become his wife, he will be your strong support. Then, you'll have everything you want, won't you?"
