No Wife, No Life Chapter 131

The conference room was in chaos. Some folks thought Harper had gone too far, showing no mercy. Others suggested bringing her back. Opinions were all over the place.

Alex, the protagonist, sat silently at the head of the table, a laptop in front of him.

His eyes were glued to the screen, watching the Lavien Group's stock nosedive. He maintained a facade of impassivity, yet his hand betrayed him; he gripped the pen with uncontrollable tension.

He glanced to his right, where Quinn was seated.

Harper used to sit there.

Finally, a shareholder pointed a finger at Emily.

"I think Emily should leave the Lavien Group. Everything started going downhill when she joined."

"Exactly. How could she possibly be qualified to be a secretary? Harper was always the secretary for the Lavien Group."

Everyone turned to Emily, their words dripping with malice.

Emily, hiding in the corner, was pale and trembling.

The accusations weren't baseless. Everything did start with her.

Emily had disrupted both Alex and Harper's lives and work, leading to Harper's resolute departure.

Alex watched coldly, not responding.

As the room descended into chaos, Quinn turned on the large screen in the conference room, displaying an article Harper had just posted, explaining her resignation in detail.

[In light of my resignation, I feel it's necessary to clarify a few things. First, thank you all for your kind words, though I feel undeserving. I was merely doing my job, nothing more.]

[Secondly, there is no conflict between me and the Lavien Group. I left for personal reasons. As for the so-called 'three pillars' of the Lavien Group, there's no need to worry.

[If you must know my personal reason, here it is: I'm leaving because I'm getting engaged to Caden. He's my love, and that's why I made this choice.

[My departure has no commercial competition involved. It's purely for my personal happiness, and Mr. Lavien graciously agreed to it. I remain grateful for the opportunities the Lavien Group has given me.]

[Lastly, my departure has nothing to do with the Luminary Innovations Inc. contract. Mr. Lavien was aware of Luminary Innovations Inc.'s intentions from the start, and we informed the public about the contract trap from the beginning. This was something Mr. Lavien and I had initially agreed upon. There is no conflict between us]

[I hope everyone understands, and I hope FusionX Company will continue to work with the Lavien Group. Thank you all for your understanding and support.]

She tried to downplay the conflict. Even after leaving, she didn't want to cause too much disruption for the Lavien Group.

Sure enough, after her statement, the Lavien Group's stock began to rise again.

Harper had always been straightforward and honorable.

The conference room fell silent.

Quinn leaned back in his chair, rubbing his temples, his tone calm but laced with a hint of sarcasm. "Is everyone satisfied with Harper's response?"

The board members were speechless.

Quinn continued, "I hope you all remember, Harper is no longer with the Lavien Group. She belongs to FusionX Company now, so let's refrain from making any inappropriate comments."

The meeting wrapped up.

After posting the article, Harper was at home, organizing materials for an upcoming financial summit. Caden had been swamped with work and hadn't visited her in days.

Honestly, she was starting to feel a bit uneasy.

Caden was always around, and now he was suddenly absent.

A week later, she finally got a call from Caden, saying he was downstairs.

She rushed down excitedly.

But when she saw Caden's new look, she froze.

His sartorial style had undergone a complete metamorphosis.

He was wearing a dark blue suit, the shirt buttoned up to the top, a perfectly tied tie, and gold-rimmed glasses perched on his nose.

Caden never liked to constrain himself. Even in a suit, he wouldn't wear a tie, and his jacket would be open, with a couple of shirt buttons undone, showing off his muscular chest. He always had a carefree, rebellious look.

Now, he looked like a different man.

He was deliberately mimicking Alex.

She didn't understand why he was doing this.

"Is this what you like?"

"I can be like that too."

"I'll give you my heart. Do you want it?"

Suddenly, Harper remembered what he had said in the car that day.

She had been a bit dazed then, not fully grasping his words.

But now, looking at him, she finally understood.

He was truly crazy.

Because she liked Alex, he was trying to simulate Alex.

Harper stood there, the wind blowing past, her eyes dry. "Harper, is this to your liking?" He stood there, looking at her, not moving closer.

If it were Caden, he would have walked up to her, closing the distance.

But if it were Alex, he would stay put, waiting for her to come to him.

"Caden, I don't like it." Her voice was soft, a bit hoarse.

Caden just looked at her, still not moving.

He was waiting for her. "Then come here and tell me."

Suddenly, Harper realized.

This was their game.

Caden was testing her.

Even after leaving the Lavien Group, Caden knew how important it was to her.

She had made her choice, and now he was giving her a chance to see her true feelings.

Did she want Alex or Caden?

He was truly smart and calculating!

But she couldn't hate him for it.

He hadn't come to see her these past few days because he was planning this. He gave himself time, and he gave her time, to understand their hearts better.

His narrow eyes were fixed on her, not moving.

He was still waiting, waiting for her to come closer.

She paused for a moment, then resolutely walked up to him.

"Caden, you're a jerk!" She looked up at him and said.

He really was a jerk. From the moment they truly met, he had been calculating her every move.

He gave his heart, but he calculated his love.

Caden didn't say anything. Instead, he leaned down and eagerly captured her lips.

From gentle to forceful, from forceful to possessive, he deepened the kiss, invading her senses.

Finally, she gasped, "I don't want him."

"Then who do you want?"

"Are you playing dumb, jerk?"

She was a bit annoyed but softly added, "I want Caden."
