No Wife, No Life Chapter 164

Jeremy sat on a bench, casting a cold, disdainful glance at Caden, who lay crumpled on the ground. His eyes were filled with icy contempt.

He was eagerly anticipating Harper's panic and distress.

He confirmed that she would. She would be trapped by love, just like her mother, sacrificing everything for it.

Once that happened, Harper would be forever under his control.

But Harper's voice was unexpectedly calm, even tinged with a hint of amusement.

"Sorry, I'm exceedingly occupied. Unburdened and with a vast inheritance, no one could possibly be more content than I am at this moment."

As she spoke, Harper had already activated a tracking system. Her fingers flew over the keyboard, hoping to quickly pinpoint Jeremy's location.

Jeremy was nearly stunned by Harper's words.

"What are you saying? Don't you understand that Caden is in my hands?"

Unlike before, his tone now carried a hint of helplessness.

Harper chuckled lightly. "You're really quite dense, aren't you? For me, he's just a pawn. I only care about benefits and he could bring me a huge fortune. If I had to plan carefully to get that money before, now I should really thank you for getting rid of my biggest obstacle."

She laughed easily, with a sense of satisfaction.

"Once he's truly gone from this world, the Elikin Group will be mine."

"Getting the Elikin Group's assets for free, I am absolutely delighted. Why should I feel sorrowful?"

Maybe Harper's tone was too relaxed, but Jeremy actually started to believe her.

He gripped his phone, unable to stay calm. He couldn't accept this outcome. After all his scheming, it actually let Harper have her way.

A surge of anger flared up inside him.

He stood up and strode over to Caden, kicking his already broken leg hard. "You're such an idiot!"

"Aren't you supposed to be shrewd? Listen to her; she doesn't care about you at all."

Caden's face was pale, his expression twisted in pain from his leg, but he still didn't make a sound.

He understood why Harper was saying this. She wanted to show Jeremy that he couldn't use Caden to threaten her.

No one knew about their strong bond, and Jeremy certainly didn't.

At that moment, Harper's fingers suddenly stopped typing.

She was close to finding the location. She had to stop Jeremy and get Caden back from him.

"She's also clever. Why would she spend a fortune to get back a cripple?"

Through the receiver, Harper heard Caden's voice, hoarse from the extreme pain.

"Jeremy, if it were you, would you?" Caden deliberately revealed his name.

"Shut up!" Jeremy shouted, almost losing his mind with rage.

Harper bit her lower lip, her hands trembling as she typed the final code, finally locating the position: a villa in Lakeshore Estates, Building B.

Harper glanced at Jacob and Peyton, sending them the location.

Over the years, they had developed a strong understanding. Seeing the information, they quickly arranged for people to go there.

Meanwhile, Jeremy's men realized their location had been tracked.

A subordinate rushed into the basement, urgently reporting, "Mr. Lavien, we need to leave immediately. Our location's been compromised."

Jeremy was nearly faint with anger.

He had made another mistake.

He shouldn't have contacted Harper privately. He never expected Harper to be so cunning, just like her mother.

Jeremy asked, "How close are they?"

"Very close, less than a mile from our villa."

The subordinate responded urgently.

With such a short distance, there was no way he could take Caden with him. He kicked Caden again in frustration.

"Fine, very fine. You two really are a pair."

"Caden, remember this. Next time, I won't let you off so easily."

With that, Jeremy kicked him one last time, then quickly gathered his things and fled through the back door with his men.

Caden lay on the cold basement floor, surrounded by dampness and the smell of mold.

There were no windows, the only light coming from a dim bulb hanging above. It cast a patchy glow, making the space even more eerie.

His breathing was rapid and labored, each inhalation a battle against relentless agony.

His left leg was twisted at an unnatural angle, clearly broken.

The bone had pierced through the skin, blood continuously oozing from the wound, staining the floor.

His visage was marred with bruises and lacerations, dried blood caking the corner of his mouth. His hair, soaked with sweat and blood, clung to his face as rivulets trickled down.

His arms and shoulders were covered in gruesome wounds, some deep enough to reveal bone, others just flesh wounds, but each one a testament to the brutal torture he had endured.

He looked at his pitiful state, thinking of Harper, who would be there soon.

Her image flashed in his mind, but at this moment, he was afraid to see her.

Just then, he heard soft footsteps outside the door.

Harper, was it Harper?

He was both hopeful and fearful.

The grating sound of chains being dragged.

The door opened, and Elsie appeared in the doorway.

The light outside was blinding, making Caden squint.

The person looked down at Caden with a cruel smile. "Caden, I heard you rejected my marriage proposal."

Her voice was clear and melodious. "What should I do? I love you so much, and you've really hurt me."

She crouched down, not minding his disheveled state, and wiped the blood from his forehead, her voice filled with arrogance and determination.

"See, Harper only cares about your money, but I truly care about you." She whispered in his ear, "Come with me and I'll take you away."

Caden struggled to lift his head, his gaze heavy. "Elsie, you must be crazy. Look at me now."

He certainly didn't want to fall into her hands. No matter what, he wanted to see Harper.

Elsie laughed coldly, snapping her fingers. Someone immediately came over to restrain him.

"I'm very clear-headed. I've always thinking about our future. Now that you're like this, no one else will love you. So you can only be with me."

Elsie looked at him, a hint of madness in her otherwise delicate face. "Without your legs, you'll be stuck by my side, at my mercy."
