No Wife, No Life Chapter 39

Caden was a man with desire. Now, with a soft, gorgeous woman in his arms, it was hard not to feel something.

His body was practically on fire, itching to just lay her down and do what comes naturally.

Especially now, with her chest rising and falling, her pink lips slightly parted, and her pretty face looking like a ripe apple, just begging for a bite.

But he fought hard to keep his desire in check.

Sure, he wanted Harper, but he knew she was out cold. He couldn't take advantage of her; otherwise, how would he be any different from those creeps?

He wanted her, but it had to be mutual, not one-sided.

"Harper, wake up."

He gently patted her cheek.

"I'm hot."

She murmured, tugging at the neckline of her dress.

Her skin, like a dazzling gem, came into his view.

"Hang tight."

Caden let go of her and strode out.

He quickly returned, carrying two bottles of cold mineral water.

He unscrewed the cap and helped her drink more than half a bottle.

The cold liquid entered her body, clearing her mind a bit, though her cheeks were still flushed.

She opened her eyes slightly, looking at Caden in a daze.

"What happened to me?"

Her consciousness hadn't fully returned.

"You were drugged."

Caden's lips no longer held a smile.

"I just saw Harper come in here."

At that moment, Emily's voice came from outside the door.

Before Harper could get up, the door was pushed open again.

The bright light from outside made Harper even dizzier.

She spread her fingers to block the blinding light, seeing Alex and Emily standing at the door through the gaps.

Alex's face was stern, his eyes coldly scrutinizing her.

She was too weak to stand, leaning against Caden for support.

"Harper, what are you doing?"

Emily exclaimed.

She looked at Harper, then glanced at Caden, incredulously saying, "Are you two...?"

She didn't finish her sentence, but the situation was clear enough.

Emily was a bit annoyed. "Harper, how could you do this? Seducing another man just to get the project."

Her meaning was clear.

Alex's face darkened even more.

"Alex, I had no idea Harper would do something so shameful."

Alex sneered.

"Given the numerous lovers you get, the company should reward you for your self-sacrifice."

He spoke coldly, his eyes full of mockery, disdain, and contempt.

"Mr. Lavien, I just realized you're quite good at making up stories."

Caden couldn't help but say.

"I only believe in facts." Alex deadpanned.

At this point, Harper's mind was clearer, and she had some strength back.

She struggled to get up, almost falling over.

Caden quickly supported her.

Her face was pale, sweat dripping down, but she still managed to say, "What facts do you see?"

Alex spoke coldly, "You couldn't wait to throw yourself at Caden to find a new backer."

Harper shivered, feeling like her heart was being squeezed.

She had worked at the Lavien Group for six years and been married to him for five. Didn't he know what kind of person she was?

After five years together, didn't he know her better than this?

He bought Emily's lie without a second thought.

So, those five years meant nothing.

Harper's cold gaze locked onto Emily, her voice shaking.

"Mr. Lavien, maybe you should ask your lover what she did to me."

Emily felt a pang of guilt but still smiled and defended herself, "Harper, what are you talking about? I have no idea what you mean."

She was lying through her teeth.

"Emily, you drugged my drink, didn't you?"

Emily's face changed, but she looked innocently at Alex, shaking her head, "Alex, why would I do that? Harper is slandering me."

Harper sneered, "You can deny it all you want, but I believe in facts too."

Her tone dripped with sarcasm.

"Mr. Elikin, please take me to Frank for a full-body checkup."

She wasn't going to let anyone drag her name through the mud, nor would she explain herself for something she didn't do. She wanted Emily to face the consequences with solid evidence.

Caden agreed, shooting a glare at Emily before helping Harper out.

In the car, she leaned against the window, trying to rest.

The drug's effects hadn't worn off, and her head was still spinning.

The wind blowing through the open window helped clear her mind a bit, and the burning sensation in her body gradually faded.

Feeling nauseous, Harper dry-heaved but nothing came out.

Lately, she had been feeling more nauseous; maybe her stomach issues were acting up again.

She thought, taking this opportunity to have Frank check her thoroughly.

After a while, the car slowed to a stop.

Caden got out and opened the door, "We're here."

Harper nodded, getting out of the car.

She felt much clearer and steadier on her feet.

Caden tried to help her, but she brushed him off.

"I can manage."

Caden grinned, teasing, "I'm your savior, and you want to push me away?"

Harper ignored him, walking ahead.

Suddenly, she felt a sharp pain in her lower abdomen, and the world spun as she fell into someone's arms.

"Harper!"

The person exclaimed, holding her steady.

In that moment of losing consciousness, she saw a flash of white.

"Get her inside for an examination."

The person called to a nurse.

It was Frank, who had just come out of surgery and saw Harper fainting.

When she woke up again, she found herself in a hospital room.

Everything was white. White walls, white sheets, white bedside table, making her feel cold inside.

As her consciousness returned, she remembered what happened at The Orsini Villa.

The door opened, and Frank walked in with a stack of reports.

He looked at the top report, his face serious.

"You're awake?"

He spoke calmly.

Harper nodded, wanting to ask something, but her throat burned painfully.

"Harper, did you know you're pregnant?"

Frank looked up, saying firmly.

Harper's eyes widened in shock, not believing her ears.

Impossible, completely impossible!

She couldn't be pregnant!

Alex had said they wouldn't have children, so he always took precautions when they had sex.

How could she be pregnant?

"We're going to divorce eventually, so we can't have kids, not even once."

Alex had looked at her coldly when he said that.
