No Wife, No Life Chapter 179
At this moment, Alex struggled to suppress the panic and unease in his heart.
Manuel must be crazy. This collision could be fatal.
Alex shouted, "Manuel, are you out of your mind?"
Manuel, however, seemed completely unfazed.
"Don't worry. I wouldn't mess around with people's lives. I've calculated everything. As long as they follow my instructions and brake at the exact moment, there won't be an accident."
Manuel tapped his temple lightly with his finger. "Mr. Lavien, trust my brain."
Alex, usually the calm and composed CEO, now looked fierce, like a wolf ready to pounce.
Two frames appeared on the large screen by the track. The left frame showed Harper's profile, and the right frame showed Felix.
Cameras installed inside the cars were monitoring their conditions.
Upon hearing the command, Harper calmly pressed the gas pedal, accelerating without hesitation.
She knew that at this moment, she couldn't afford to be timid. She had to follow the instructions completely.
In stark contrast, Felix's reaction was entirely different. Beads of cold sweat formed on his forehead, and though his toe hovered over the gas pedal, he hesitated and instead tentatively pressed the brake.
"Less than six hundred feet to accelerate and crash. There's no way to stop in time. Mr. Bailey, are you sure you want me to do this?" Felix's voice wavered."Follow my orders. Keep accelerating. Don't stop!" Manuel's voice was cold as he looked up at the screen, completely ignoring Felix's panic.
His gaze was fixed on Harper's face.
She looked determined. Her striking face held a steely resolve, a stark contrast that was mesmerizing.
Everyone present understood that with less than six hundred feet if they couldn't hit the perfect braking point, a horrific accident was inevitable.
If the car crashed, it would be fatal.
"Accelerate; keep accelerating."
Manuel continued to issue his commands.
The distance between the vehicle and the wall grew ever shorter, and everyone seemed to feel the looming presence of death.
"Make them brake; they're going to crash." Alex's voice was hoarse.
The fear of losing Harper consumed him, changing his expression drastically.
He knew all too well what would happen in a crash, even if the car was modified.
After all, that was how Caden ended up disabled.
He couldn't bear to watch Harper become a wreck too.
"Make them brake now!"
He stepped forward and grabbed Manuel's hand with force.
Manuel deftly dodged Alex, his expression unchanged.
He casually switched the radio to his other hand and continued to smile as he issued the command, "Keep pressing the gas; don't let up."
On the screen, Harper's foot pressed the gas pedal, her green eyes coldly watching the wall get closer.
Her face was expressionless, eerily calm.
Felix, however, was falling apart.
"Mr. Bailey, if I keep accelerating, I'm going to crash and die. This isn't a game; it's related to life and death. I'm out. Whoever wants the VP position can have it; I'm not doing this."
A sharp screech tore through the air as Felix slammed on the brakes.
The tires screeched, emitting black smoke as the car skidded forward, clearly out of control.
The scene was so tense it made everyone break out in a cold sweat.
Felix's father, Brody, was also present, trembling all over. Thankfully, his secretary handed him a bottle of heart medication, and he took a few pills to calm down.
Alex's heart pounded, and his temples throbbed painfully.
He moved to Manuel's other side and shouted into the radio, "Harper, Felix has braked. You need to brake now. Are you out of your mind?"
Was it really necessary for Harper to go to such lengths for the VP position at FusionX Company, to help Caden keep the company?
On the screen, Harper remained unmoved.
Manuel stared at Harper on the screen, her beautiful face looking both dangerous and captivating.
"Keep pressing the gas; don't let up."
He issued the command with a smile.
"Manuel, you're insane." Alex lost control and swung a punch at Manuel.
Manuel dodged, still wearing his nonchalant smile.
Alex's assistant stepped in to hold him back, while Manuel's researchers rushed forward, causing chaos.
"Harper, I order you to brake now, immediately!" Alex shouted.
Harper ignored him, remaining calm and composed.
Watching Harper, Manuel laughed.
Harper truly was Alvina's daughter, the most interesting woman he'd ever met.
Felix's car finally came to a stop with a sharp screech.
Harper's car, however, continued to charge towards the wall.
Everyone was stunned; some even turned away, unable to watch.
It was going to be a crash for sure.
Just then, the car emitted a crisp beep, as if something had taken control.
Harper's steering wheel was no longer under her control.
The car quickly swerved, drifted, and slowed down, stopping on the track fifteen feet from the wall.
At that moment, Harper, who had shown no emotion, smiled faintly.
It was indeed the AI system. When the car sensed danger, it automatically activated the safety feature.
The crowd erupted in astonishment.
Such a test had only been heard of, never performed with a real person.
Seeing it live was far more shocking than any computer simulation.
Harper truly had guts!
The executives of FusionX Company led the applause, amazed by Harper's performance.
Indeed, Harper was not just pretty.
Only Alex was seething with anger, gritting his teeth.
"If your system had failed, Harper would have crashed! Do you know how serious the consequences would be? Using a real person for such a dangerous experiment, I'm going to sue you."
Manuel still wore a relaxed smile. "That wasn't a real wall; it was a special test material. Even if she crashed, she wouldn't have been hurt."
Alex was speechless.
Felix, in disbelief, opened his car door and stumbled to the wall, touching it. It was indeed soft.
In deep regret, he had to admit he was convinced.
Harper had already gotten out of her car and was walking towards them with a light step.
The sunlight bathed her, giving her a golden glow.
Manuel clapped lightly as he watched her.
Alex walked towards Harper. He couldn't contain his agitation and grabbed her wrist forcefully. "Harper, you're out of your mind."
Harper calmly freed her wrist from Alex's grip, not even glancing at him, and continued towards Manuel. "Mr. Bailey, what do you think?"
She was waiting for his answer. "Does Mr. Bailey keep his word?" She raised an eyebrow, questioning.
Manuel said, "Of course, I keep my word. From now on, I'll follow Ms. Orsini's directives."
