No Wife, No Life Chapter 41
The report smacked her and then drifted to the floor.
For a second, everyone was just frozen, totally clueless about what just went down.
The room was thick with tension.
Emily's eyes went wide with shock.
"I drugged your drink? No way! Why would I even do that?"
Her big eyes were full of panic, looking as innocent as a puppy.
Harper stepped closer, her eyes intense.
"You drugged my drink and then tried to get some thugs to assault me. You're disgusting!"
Emily's mouth dropped open, a mix of shock and hurt on her face.
She avoided Harper's gaze and looked at Alex, tears welling up.
"Alex, listen to Harper. She's just blaming me because she can't find another excuse. I swear, I don't know anything about this."
Harper almost laughed out of sheer anger.
She knew Emily would deny it, but she didn't think she'd be this shameless.
"Check the security footage," she said coldly.
She knew the mansion had cameras everywhere.
For someone as sneaky as Emily, words wouldn't cut it. Only hard evidence would make her fess up.
"Alex! Harper doesn't believe me," Emily tugged at Alex's sleeve.
Alex didn't look at her, speaking coldly, "Fine."
Brad wanted to say something, but one look at Alex's stern face made him shut up.
"Go get the security footage," Brad told one of the servants.
The servant nodded and rushed off.
Even though the living room was packed, it was dead silent.
Under Alex's intense presence, no one dared to speak, barely even breathing.
Soon, the servant came back, out of breath.
"Mr. Lavien, the cameras were covered. There's nothing to see."
Emily had clearly planned this, covering her tracks.
Frank was right; even with the drug test report, it didn't prove anything.
In the end, it was just a suspicion that Emily had drugged the drink.
Harper frowned, staying quiet.
Emily pursed her lips, getting bolder, and raised her voice.
"Alex, you have to find out who those thugs are, or Harper will keep blaming me."
She pouted, pretending to be annoyed.
"Besides, even if Harper didn't seduce other men, who can say for sure? Maybe she used the drug's effects to tempt Mr. Elikin."
Her words instantly set Alex off.
Images of Harper's flushed face in Caden's arms flashed through his mind.
A surge of uncontrollable rage darkened his expression.
"Even if someone drugged you, you should be mindful of your status. You're still an assistant at the Lavien Group and should act like it," he said coldly.
Even though she was the victim, he sided with Emily, criticizing Harper for not having decorum.
Harper laughed coldly, her eyes flashing with a hint of mockery.
"I embarrassed the company, but your lover is so dignified. Her status is dignified, her bullying is dignified, her despicable methods are dignified, and even her mother is dignified. Mr. Lavien, her mother seduced someone else's husband. Tell me, is that dignified?"
She spoke slowly, her tone calm.
Everyone's faces changed.
Most of the guests at the birthday party knew about the Orsini family's drama.
Emily's mom, Sable, had indeed had an affair with Brad, which led to Emily's birth.
Even though everyone knew about this scandal, no one dared to talk about it.
Emily's cheeks burned with embarrassment.
Even Brad blushed with shame, laughing awkwardly without saying a word.
"Harper!" Emily's voice was sharp, both ashamed and angry, almost hysterical. "Alex doesn't love you. You're just clinging to him using the title of his wife. Now you're trying to take my Alex away. Are you doing this to get back at me?"
Emily's mom had taken Harper's dad, so Emily was implying that Harper was taking her man in return.
Harper looked at Alex, her voice cold. "Bring out the divorce papers. I'll sign them right now. I don't want any of the Lavien family's assets."
Her attitude was firm, with no hint of hesitation, like she couldn't wait another second.
Alex's anger surged even more, and he asked indifferently, "Are you in such a hurry to please Caden?"
Harper smirked, not even glancing at them as she headed upstairs.
To prevent her mother Alvina's belongings from being auctioned off again, she decided to pack up all of Alvina's things, including the green dress.
Opening Alvina's room, Harper's eyes reddened, a wave of sadness washing over her.
The Orsini Villa had been Alvina's creation, everything was personally chosen by her.
Alvina had lived here her whole life, and now Harper had to take her things and leave, abandoning the place her mother had spent her life building.
No, she wouldn't let the Orsini Villa go so easily. She would return one day.
Determined, she began packing Alvina's belongings.
She found a large bag in the closet and filled it with Alvina's jewelry and clothes.
Soon, she looked around, finding almost nothing left to pack.
Then she remembered the dress.
That dress was too important to her to leave behind. She needed to find the dress.
She picked up the bag and slowly walked downstairs.
At some point, the guests had all left.
The large living room was now empty, with only the remnants of the party left behind.
The servants were cleaning up, seemingly not noticing her.
Harper glanced around and walked out.
Just then, she ran into Emily.
Emily smirked, glancing at the bag in Harper's hand with disdain.
"Just a bunch of dead people's stuff. Good riddance."
Harper's expression was cold. "Where's the dress?"
At this moment, she didn't want to argue with Emily anymore. From visiting her mother's grave in the morning, being drugged and passing out, undergoing a full examination, and then packing for so long, she was exhausted.
She just wanted to end the day and rest in her apartment.
"Oh, that shitty dress. Fine. I'll get it."
Emily's tone was impatient as she turned to leave.
Soon, she returned with the green dress, carelessly saying, "Here!"
But seeing the dress, Harper's face changed, and she almost lunged at Emily, knocking her to the ground.
